Should be more worried about the flu
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@ChiyoSKL EXACTLY
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ChiyoSKL until earlier today I would have agreed with that comment. Unfortunately, the data about human to human spread now shows that this new coronavirus may be even more likely to spread, and is almost 10X as fatal.

@Harmonium1923 HIV and SARS are in the same group , flu is not.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Khenpal1 HIV is actually not. It is more difficult to spread HIV, and we now have a decent therapy for most cases.
Khenpal1 · M
@samueltyler2 it still is virus from animals , flu is not
Darina · F
@ChiyoSKL @ChiyoSKL I think not ... the flu is not a virus ... the virus is scary
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Khenpal1 I hate to argue with you, and it really makes little difference to the sufferer, but flu does often start in animals, or is genetically like that from animals. Thus the "swine flu," "avian flu," etc.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Darina influenza, aka the flu, is caused by a virus.
Darina · F
@samueltyler2 hi my friend ... thank you say the right thing
very many do not understand this
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Darina it is my pleasure. I no longer actively practice medicine, but still try to help as many people as I can.
Khenpal1 · M
@samueltyler2 Well, current virus at best what they know now is from eating bats . SARS is also from China , so just support CCP and their culture and you would be fine. Probably an American who hardly left his own state.
ChiyoSKL · 31-35, F
@samueltyler2 it may be able to spread more. However, until it is killing thousands in my area I am not scared. The 13 yr old girl that was relatively healthy that just passed in my community had the flu though.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Khenpal1 Not from eating bats as far as I know, but bats are possibly (probably) the reservoir. SARS was also thought to have been bat-related and then with the civet cat as another animal vector. You might know that many cases of rabies are also related to bats.

There are already cases in many countries, including about a dozen, I think that is the latest number, in the US.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ChiyoSKL No one should panic about the disease, but it is spreading worldwide very rapidly and the death rate is over 10X that of the current flu. Unfortunately, the Chinese government lied about its existence and did an inadequate job of containing it. One of the big US pharmaceutical companies is busy working on a vaccine to prevent it. Vaccine production is a tedious task, but there is a new technique that may shorten the development in this case. If all of the first world countries help out, the vaccine might be fast tracked into production.
Darina · F
@ChiyoSKL I don’t think so ... people do not die of flu from the street
Darina · F
@samueltyler2 @samueltyler2 thank you ... you are a doctor
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Darina I retired in July 2016, but I am told that once a physician, always a physician.
