Travel advisories discouraging Florida as a destination…

Pretzel · 61-69, M
I live in Florida and am neither anti black nor anti lgbtq+

I HATE overreaching blanket statements that say that everybody in a particular geographic area feels one way or the other about anything.

It offends me.

that is all.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard and he won by a landslide.
@samueltyler2 Yes, so when people are thinking it’s all of Florida, while it isn’t, it’s a sizable number.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard wasn't it like about 70%?
originnone · 61-69, M
I actually saw this earlier today. I think these boycotts are a really good way to influence culture. The only one I really didn't like was moving the baseball all star game out of Atlanta. To me there is still something about baseball that makes it magical. But I'm all for boycotting Florida. I think MLK would be advocating things like that today.
Viper · M
That's negative news for sure, but I feel like NAACP case is misleading, as those all seems like reason to not move to a place.... I'm not really seeing much that directly effects strictly visitors.

Though Florida in general needs a warning just for higher than average crazy as no one, not even the Floridians know what some of their more out there citizens will do (good or bad or simply just different).

@Viper I was listening and I understood. I just disagreed, which can happen, even between friends. Take care.
Viper · M
@bijouxbroussard No you did not understand, proof is you saying I talked about gun rights, I never did.

I talked about MURDER... murder is not gun rights.
@Viper You may understand that it’s not the same. I agree that it isn’t. But a big part of the problem is the ready availability of arms, which provides the most effective ways to murder.
This should have been dealt with in 2015. Fascists always seem to take the world by surprise.
@Crazywaterspring My Afro-Cuban mother-in-law (born in Havana, came to Florida in the 50s) once told me to "watch out" for white Cubans. She said many were just as racist as those southern "good old boys", and willing to go along with them, but then claiming "we can’t be racist—we’re Latino". She said, "in Cuba, they were white—and they never let us forget it. They fled to the U.S. rather than risk losing that privilege."
@samueltyler2 @Crazywaterspring @bijouxbroussard I begin to suspect there is something to the theory that the human brain is made irritable and hateful by high temperatures.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard That is one reason I have lots of respect for Castro and company. They had a revolution for "reasons.". Washington has been punishing them for decades. Cuba keeps flipping off the US government. And i love it! You MIL certainly passed on tales of the shenanigans that upper class inflicted on everyone else.
bookerdana · M
He has made his state a laughing stock,been outmaneuvered by Disney,military bases are looking to relocate....I can't imagine anyone actually needing this warning...I wouldn't live in that RUBES PARADISE for all the money in FT Knox and I am in none of the effected groups
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I’ve boycotted Florida and also made certain that none of my business vendors is in any way operating out of Florida. In doing so I have found several businesses that have left or are leaving Florida for good. Same with Texas.
@BackyardShaman That’s great ! They don’t care about human beings, they’ve proven that. But hit ‘em in the wallet…
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
The Florida voters better find a way to convince their governor to change his spots, or recall him from office! He is going to destroy his state over the next 4 years.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I'm glad they did this. It will reduce tourism and hopefully prompt the business sectors to reconsider building/bringing jobs to FL. Let them sleep in the bed they made.
There really is little hope for humanity
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
So sad to read that warnings like this have become necessary according to some assessments. Not living there it's hard to assess, but it sounds pretty severe.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
The governer controls the attitudes of the state. The representatives agree with him for the most part. These leaders control the police and the people who deal out the justice. For anyone of color, the state is no longer a safe bet for anyone. They will not receive fair treatment in the state. The warning is justified.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ronisme1 it shouldn't be that way, the public attitude should set the policy. Maybe the friends i know who live there are in the minority.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 correct, the will of the people, however they did vote him in again recently.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ronisme1 none of my friends will admit to that.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Just goes to show what happens when Florida Man manages to get elected
blackdiamonds · 36-40, F
Wonder if i need to be cautious as an asian american. I had planned on a family vacation to the key west but i don't know
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@blackdiamonds be very careful, although key west has always been a bit on the liberal side.
@blackdiamonds I would honestly be careful in most of the Southern states. A lot of them blame every Asian they see for COVID.

NAACP CEO and President publicly admits it a political stunt, specific to show how bad Gov. Ron Desantis is, because he's running for President.

This answer came when asked why they didn't do it for other states with similar actions in place...

So yes, this is a political stunt to hopefully hurt Desantis Presidential chances, as stated by the NAACP CEO and President.

@samueltyler2 I don’t have Twitter so I can’t access it, I just see this:
Viper · M
@samueltyler2 Why do you falsely assume a stunt can't be serious? And why are the pointless semantics bothering you?

I'm trying to let this go but y'all won't let me.

But to answer your question, I called it a stunt because it meets the definition of a stunt. They do something with an alternative motivation, which he admitted to...

Now let me go in peace, thank you.
Viper · M
@bijouxbroussard I don't believe you need Twitter, I don't have it either.

Try clicking on the link on the top and making it reload. Not sure why, sometimes twitter need to reload.

samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
As it turns out it isn't only NAACP which issues warnings, and this has been the trend since March.
@samueltyler2 Yes. At least two other groups are mentioned in the post.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard very much like the days of the "Green Book."
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Trump's (very successful) attempts to Jed Bush him out of the campaign are a mixed blessing but... he deserves it.
@Burnley123 I feel so confused watching those two go at it. Each of them deserves the treatment the other is giving him, so when one of them screws the other, I'm always happy, but at the same time, I'm a little unhappy, because that means someone I hate was successful, lol.
I have thought this a great idea for a while. Not much loss to them from me, but if everybody got on the wagon, it could result in a change.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
No.plans to go there anyway. Ever try to drive down there?
@Tastyfrzz Not recently, but it was quite a trek.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Tastyfrzz I95 can be a real challenge!
Ferric67 · M
the human consciousness needs a serious reboot, i doubt that AI can do that though
justanothername · 51-55, M
Ironically being a a naturally brown skinned man of Italian aha wog decent, Desantis would actually fall under the description of people of color. Legally speaking he would have to have pale Northern European skin to be classed as White.
HannahSky · F
I wouldn't go.
firefall · 61-69, M
Well sure, but I'd extend this to all the Old South (at least). They might be less formal about it than in Florida, but they'll kill just as dead in Alabama or Mississippi
@firefall It’s a start. Not that DeSantis particularly cares.
MellyMel22 · F
[c=BF0080]That’s sickening 😞[/c]
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Look at all of the books they have removed from this Florida school. All the books with African Americans in them. It’s just disgusting. This school basically has no library left.

@iamonfire696 Wow. 😞
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard I know, the US is just going to hell. Honestly as a Canadian seeing what’s happening it just seems like everyday it’s getting worse.

There’s another mass shooting every day, women are being made to go carry still born babies to term.

Florida is banning books, banning gender affirming care, making undocumented people illegal. He wants to use radioactive waste to pave roads.

It’s just one thing after another, I am worried about you all down there.
