I live in Florida and am neither anti black nor anti lgbtq+

I HATE overreaching blanket statements that say that everybody in a particular geographic area feels one way or the other about anything.

It offends me.

that is all.
@Pretzel I get it. Unfortunately, people like DeSantis are the face of Florida right now. I’m old enough to remember when Reagan represented California.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@Pretzel I don’t see this as the intent of the post at all. I live in the South East USA also and I understand what you mean because I get the same broad classification. With Florida and with my state also it’s obvious to me that over half the population is like you and I. With voting in both of our states gerrymandering has made it totally impossible to fight off the fascists.

@BackyardShaman may not be the intent but their statement says "florida is openly hostile to ..."

openly hostile sounds like we meet you at the state line wearing a Klan robe.

words mean things - and I find their wording offensive.

your mileage may vary.

@Pretzel it's supposed to encourage you to work toward change. I wouldn't spend a penny on anything that comes from Florida or Texas. Who you give your money to is a thousand times more important than who you vote for.
@Pretzel
My cousin lives in Florida and is brown, and is as liberal as you can get. If you are annoyed with how you are being labelled think about why there is this label. The population voted, this is the majority and no-one listens to the minority or considers how they feel.... this is true fir all minorities,.....blacks, asians, lgbt community etc.... you are sadly a victim of the prejudice so mamy feel and you are right to be oissed off about it
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@hunkalove totally your right to spend your money as you see fit.
@Pretzel It’s much the way many of us look at Russia because of Putin. I’m certain there are people living there who don’t agree with him and would never have chosen him. But they can’t get rid of him. And in Florida there are not enough of you to get rid of DeSantis.
A couple of the Democrats there have replied to the advisory:
@Pretzel I completely understand that. But if a state government makes their position plain, those who would suffer under the legislation have a right to voice their protest. Not going there is a good way.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Mamapolo2016 no argument there at all. again, the only thing that *isses me off is saying that the entire state is that way - because that simply a lie. and those of us that are being slandered have a right to stand up and cry "bullshit"
@Pretzel Absolutely. And you should in any way you can.
@Pretzel And I understand that people there voted against DeSantis. Unfortunately, he still represents Florida, having been elected by the majority of the state.

It upset me when people said they were afraid to visit the U.S. while Donald Trump was president.

But not as much as it angered me that Trump was making idiotic, xenophobic, racist statements while representing me as the leader of my country.

@Pretzel if I may point something out with much respect...this isn't about you. You would do good to stop taking it personally. You are not Florida. You live there, most people with common sense and rational thinking understand that.

The authorities are Florida and have power...anyone traveling through there is subject to whatever the authorities decide is within their jurisdiction to punish. It isn't safe for those who are being legislated against in your state.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@JaggedLittlePill I hear your point

but it isn't what I'm reading in their statement

I have every right to be offended at a poorly written statement
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Pretzel of course, you definitely have the right to remain ignorant and be offended by pedantics and a letter that isn't about you... rather than get angry at the very real danger that prompted this move and the actions of the lawmakers that have been elected in your state.

If you do not like the way your state is being portrayed ..maybe you should go out there and do something about it.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@JaggedLittlePill I won't sink to the level of your comments JLP because I like you. I am not ignorant no matter what you might think.

I still think their verbage was inflammatory and offensive.

you don't - I get it.

I'm done. take another shot if you want - I'm no longer interested and have given way more attention to it than I should have.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard and he won by a landslide.
@samueltyler2 Yes, so when people are thinking it’s all of Florida, while it isn’t, it’s a sizable number.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard wasn't it like about 70%?
