That's negative news for sure, but I feel like NAACP case is misleading, as those all seems like reason to not move to a place.... I'm not really seeing much that directly effects strictly visitors.

Though Florida in general needs a warning just for higher than average crazy as no one, not even the Floridians know what some of their more out there citizens will do (good or bad or simply just different).

@Viper competing for best comment, are we

@LvChris
this is also a way to say, "Don't give those d*ckbags your money. They treat minorities as second-class citizens. Spend your money elsewhere."
I agree, though, I'd prefer a more direct statement like you just made...

Also, maybe then promote a different location that you believe is more accepting of whatever your trying to push.

@Ferric67 Just more saying what I'm thinking, and trying to post some interesting Florida stories lol

My favorite one didn't show and I deleted it though... I don't remember if it was prison or jail, but a guy legally gets out, and then hot wires a car in the jail or prison parking lot, and steals it to get home lol 🤣

@Viper i personally really like the kidnapping of the scientist in an effort to make your dog immortal. Theoretically, I guess it was worth a shot...right 🤷‍♂️now that Florida man has ambition and can formulate a complex plan...plus, execute it.
@Viper
Also, maybe then promote a different location that you believe is more accepting of whatever your trying to push.
Anti-racism, anti-discrimination is something one tries to "push" ? 😳

It’s apparently neither a goal nor a value in Florida’s government, based upon their recent legislation. I’d definitely want to know that, so my money wouldn’t be funding their tourism industry.

@bijouxbroussard I believe you're taking that comment out of context, as the discussion seemed to switch from your specific statement, to a more general discussion, and so the comment of "whatever your trying to push" is not directly towards your specific statement, but the more general idea of someone being more direct with their idea, than they were.

But to answer the question (and I don't understand why you're surprised nor why you question it, unless it something small such as semantics) but yes, absolutely, many people try to push their ideas or their beliefs onto others... especially in politics, and that's absolutely what this is. A difference of political ideas and trying to use your leverage to put stress on your opponents by making them look bad.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying they (the NAACP) is wrong, but this is a political move more than an actual travel advisory, as pointed out, none of the things they complained about really effect travels... more like actually moving and living there.

Which @LvChris worded what they seemed to actually mean a lot better, don't spend your money there, which is a form of political strategy to put pressure on a political foe.

Well, do you normally go to Florida anyways? I sure don't...

And really I get the feeling Gov. Desantis is mainly doing all the crazy stuff to give red meat to the political base across the nation to keep his name in the news for his plan to run for President.

I don't know this... but I wonder if it might all end once he of whatever governor is there, stops trying to actively run for President (which official he's not actually running, but unofficially he has been).
@Viper There was once an actual "Green Book" for black people traveling through the country, with tips on places that were relatively safe to travel through (not to move to, just for traveling). That book was still in use when I was young. And there are still "sundown towns", even now.

So such advisories have a use beyond politics. But even in those terms, I would want to know that the state government doesn’t value the contributions of people who look like me, and are actively trying to erase us from the history books.

That based upon their legislation they want their world to be white, theist and heterosexual, with nobody foreign-born unless they’re European—or Cuban. No room for anyone else.

Miami was the spot for Spring Break when I was in college, so yeah, they may not think they want business from those HBCU students, but their tourist industry will certainly miss it if those kids cross them off their list.

@bijouxbroussard So when I tried to say (in a different post) that murdering is beyond politics, and you shut me down... saying it is still political...

BUT NOW when it's political convenient for you, you want to separate political from education?

It's hypocritical of you to both of these stances. Either things can be beyond politics or they can't be... it can't only be when you want them to be.

And your making excuses for a poorly executed document which is what you brought up. Sorry it it is poorly executed... they make great points, but that's not a travel advisory related... but instead don't go live there.

Now this is more travel advisory related and why you don't want to visit Miami

@bijouxbroussard I just having a hard time believing, you're complaining about what a political Governor is doing, and trying to tell me it's not political, as it's beyond politics...

Meanwhile I talked about what an evil man whom randomly planned and executed the murders of innocent people at a local shopping mall, and you rejected my notion that it's beyond politics.

It's just plain hypocritical of you...

For the record, I can agree that both are beyond politics, other than the Governor is actively involved in politics, and is trying to set a platform for him to run for President.

But that murder just killed people, he wasn't in the government or directly involved in politics.
@Viper You’re all over the map here, and now you’re the one taking an entirely different conversation (about gun rights vs. abortion rights) out of its context.

That was "all about politics"—from the perspective of those same southern lawmakers—not about "the care of children", which they were claiming.

My post, here, is about this advisory by the NAACP with a mention of similar ones by other groups. And there’s no hypocrisy—all of these topics ARE political, especially from the perspective of the politicians.

But since it involves real life for many of us, the advisory refers to the current political climate coming from Florida’s state government. There’s a history here, and this is looking distressingly similar. If you cannot relate personally, that’s where you’re coming from. So you won’t ever understand these specific concerns.
Viper · M
@bijouxbroussard Wrong, you keep making false assumption because you refuse to actually listen, I did not talk about gun rights, that was you making false assumption that I was talking about gun rights.

Since you refuse to listen, there is no point in continuing. Have a good one.
@Viper I was listening and I understood. I just disagreed, which can happen, even between friends. Take care.
Viper · M
@bijouxbroussard No you did not understand, proof is you saying I talked about gun rights, I never did.

I talked about MURDER... murder is not gun rights.
@Viper You may understand that it’s not the same. I agree that it isn’t. But a big part of the problem is the ready availability of arms, which provides the most effective ways to murder.
