Many years ago a coworker was off work for a funeral. He had tried to get his check a day early with no luck so he shows up after the funeral. The bosses wife was in the office and says "John has the pay checks with him and I'm not sure where he is". The coworker steps outside to call John, thinking he might could intercept him somewhere between the office and home. John says "the checks are at the office but it's locked and I'm not sure where my wife is". My friend walks back in and says "She's standing right here" and hands her the phone. The ended up firing him, apparently for making them both look like idiots. I never heard who actually had the check. The rest of us were questioned, they had to figure out how much we knew so they could decide which version of the "truth" to tell us.

A man who lived in a caravan said he wasn't coming in as he was having double glazed windows fitted. The best one though was "I have sprained by ankle", on the usual Monday morning. When she came into work later that week she had a lovely tan and a very fake limp that she didn't always remember to do each time she walked.

@meggie that's funny about the limp 😂😂😂😂😂

@AngelUnforgiven if your going to fake a limp, at least be consistent with it.

I remember years ago when the company I was a Director for decided to change insurance carriers.
Management had pre determined 3 possible choices. One good, two bad.
They heavily promoted the worst plan. Trying to convince everyone to take it. They made it sound great but it was all paid for by the employee. After reading the books they were required to give us to research, there was an ok plan but it costed the company about half, which was reasonable.
As we began filing the paperwork the insurance company became alarmed that too many were choosing the plan they did not want us to really choose.
The solution was that suddenly the plan became unavailable.

I do not think it was a "lie" per se but just when bosses try to act like it is a great place to work.
My old boss once told me, "Our dept is the best one in the district!" but of course it was a train wreck. I was thinking, "You mean this is as good as it gets?"
- "Remind me again how lucky I am to work here. I keep forgetting."

i work as a barrista and the most common one is very clearly ordering a small/medium drink at till and then at hand off saying it's supposed to be a Large. we have this stupid "make every moment right" policy that means i then have to hold up the queue of other orders to remake theirs because someone doesn't wanna pay full price for their drink.
yeah i get that they're a bit overpriced but my solution is just don't go to starbucks then.

When I was 16 and got my 1st job the company was always saying how we treat everyone equally blah blah blah but at meetings they always drilled in us to not discuss your pay with anyone. I found that odd. Until one day after a meeting someone blurted out their pay, at the time most of us were paid $ 8.00 an hour and a person who was last hired said " they can take this $9 an hour and shove it up their ass." and everyone was like wait whose getting $9 an hour?
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@CestManan no im lying actually i just had to call my brother and ask he was 18 at the time and the wage was $3.35 we made $8.00 it was a government contract cleaning federal office buildings, we cleaned the court houses, i remember cleaning a DPS office and a few Post offices too.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@AngelUnforgiven Government jobs used to pay pretty well back then, I wonder if that is still the case?
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@CestManan idk but my mom's best friend's husband worked for the government my parents owned a small office cleaning service and he pulled some strings and got them the contract so my brother and i begged my parents to be able to work too with them he wanted to buy a car. I wanted pocket money because i had a friend who was dating an older man they had an apartment and everything and i was always broke. She was 16, he was 30. She always paid for everything and i got tired of not being able to pay my own way. The family friend, Both he and my parents have since died , his wife is still alive though.

From a new boss…I was brought in to make money, not adhere to the law. Interestingly enough, she was forced upon us by our Governor.

"You have to ask yourself if you can live on minimum wage." What they didn't say was that is all you will ever get.

@Moneyonmymind the owner of the real estate office told me I was the hardest worker there, and shook my hand - and less than an hour later I was informed that people wanted me gone and I was fired. He made me thank him for his kind words, knowing I was history.
