When I was 16 and got my 1st job the company was always saying how we treat everyone equally blah blah blah but at meetings they always drilled in us to not discuss your pay with anyone. I found that odd. Until one day after a meeting someone blurted out their pay, at the time most of us were paid $ 8.00 an hour and a person who was last hired said " they can take this $9 an hour and shove it up their ass." and everyone was like wait whose getting $9 an hour?

@AngelUnforgiven I don't know, back then even $8 an hour was pretty good for a teenager. In 1992 my Senior year of HS, I was working in some grocery store that paid like $4.25 an hour. I would have killed for $8.
Kind of job was it?
Edit - add some stuff

@Punches yes it was pretty good dont get me wrong. Ive never made minimum wage since i can remember ive always made more than minimum wage no one that i know has ever worked for minimum wage either. It was $7.25 and Ive never made less than $8.00 even back then. The problem stemmed from a new hire making more than everyone else.

@AngelUnforgiven In my area I think it was $4 at the time.
Realistically, someone making 9 instead of 8 is not a huge difference, but for young people they tend to think it is.
I imagine the reason a new hire might have been paid more - maybe they were having problems with people not sticking around.

@AngelUnforgiven Government jobs used to pay pretty well back then, I wonder if that is still the case?

@Punches idk but my mom's best friend's husband worked for the government my parents owned a small office cleaning service and he pulled some strings and got them the contract so my brother and i begged my parents to be able to work too with them he wanted to buy a car. I wanted pocket money because i had a friend who was dating an older man they had an apartment and everything and i was always broke. She was 16, he was 30. She always paid for everything and i got tired of not being able to pay my own way. The family friend, Both he and my parents have since died , his wife is still alive though.
