I wonder how men would react or take it if..

A woman said to them, 'You would look better if you smile more.' :(
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I absolutely hate when men say “you should smile more” or “why don’t you smile?”

And they are never men I know. They are always random strangers like on the street corner, at the gas station, a bar, a convenience store

Are these men actually expecting me to be smiling at them?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves

@Jenny1234 You guys don't seem to get it, it's an intro to chat somebody up. I'm gonna go ahead and say it didn't work on you guys.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@GeniUs I know that’s what it is. That’s why I detest it. If a guy wants to talk to me, then he should make a proper conversation with me and not talk about my appearance or my smile
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234 Some people aren't good with words (you see many asking for advice on here or saying what they can't do) and so have to go with 'a line' and sometimes that takes a lot of courage since nobody likes getting rejected. Lighten up, these people generally aren't lotharios just ordinary guys making an effort.

Smiles are lowkey ugly anyway. Except when cats do it.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@LordShadowfire Also cat smiles (:

@BlueVeins I mean, I'm not going to fight you on that hill. Everybody has their own opinion.
@BlueVeins My cat smiles just like that
i'd just smile back 🙂

If they told me im more handsome when i smile then yes id take that as a compliment. When a pretty gal throws you a compliment, it can change a horrid day into an awesome day. For men, atleast me and some others, when we get compliments we wonder if they're actually genuine.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
I don't know about men in general but I would take it as a reminder to smile a little more. I have two reasons.

1. I find that taking people literally and assuming that they speak in good faith seems to cause less conflict.

2. I have noticed in a lot of the pictures that i take that my face looks rather serious and often a bit sad even when I know for sure that I was perfectly happy when the picture was taken.

However I do have sympathy with anyone who finds themselves on the receiving end of such a remark when it is a criticism.
oldundieslover · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon Totally agree.....In my pics I look like the most miserable and grumpy man in the world ...I am far from it...blessed in many ways ...and so happy to have met and know someone like Nina xx
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@oldundieslover You make me smile. xx
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Happens to me all the time. Their just telling you to be more happy because they dont get what your going through and it would make them happier to see you smile.
BRUUH ·
I'd be kinda flattered that she actually thinks my smile makes me look better cause i'v always been insecure about my smile.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
When people tell me to smile I hiss at them.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@AlchemyFox Do a hiss and tiger paws pic :)
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Probably feel guilty for looking grumpy.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
I've heard it before, it's probably true!
I would giggle and cum.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
I would just take it as her noticing my bad mood and caring, but I do understand why women don't like it, it comes across as douchey when you say it to a woman because you're commenting on her looks.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
It's happened to me and recently. I still wouldn't smile.

They wanted a picture of me, which I did consent to.
AccursedAlexander3 · 31-35, M
Compliments are always warm and welcome
I’d smile more if you…… 🤓
Alyosha · 31-35, M
It's just their opinion.
What do they expect, for us to have a permagrin on our faces, I think not. Definitely insulting
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@mindlessdrifter Right... so true. This line 'you should smile' is what many men say to women. :(
@Coralmist I wouldn't accept that, especially if it is said to men. You have a beautiful face anyway, who cares what others think
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
I'd probably react the same as I do permanently: scowl.
Allelse · 36-40, M
They sure as hell wouldn't call it a compliment. That's for sure.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire Exactly😨
@Coralmist And that's why I don't say it.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire Thank you🌺
