There are over a thousand gods worshipped in the world today, I do not believe any of them exist. Therefore if you believe in a god, I'm almost the same as you I just believe in one less.
@GeniUs Everyone is an athiest with at least 6,999 different religions, of course theirs is the ONLY "real" religion 🙄
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@NativePortlander1970 All these religions and not one of them with any credibility, you would think that somebody would come up with one that had something about it...I'm now thinking about what could pass as a religion with cred - this is a tough one...

God is an old white man, He walks with a slight limp and smokes Marlboro reds in the hard box. He's an angry drunk and has a dry sense of humor about him. He had a girlfriend once but she couldn't handle the mood swings and of course He wouldn't go to therapy with her so she finally packed it in. I met him once on the train to Newark, He smote some dude with a nose ring when the kid took His name in vain and then felt bad about it and healed a cripple he passed on the platform. Nose ring moved to Montana and started the church of the holy ass-kicking, the former cripple had to get a job in the service sector and misses his days on the platform.

All I know God protects me from bad things I have been through a lot it might not be much but I wouldn’t have gotten through the difficult times without God

A very loving deity. Has your back. Fatherly. A good balance between compassionate and stern.

God is a man-made concept to encapsulate all that humans do not yet understand about the universe through peer-reviewed science. It is not a human form. It does not have any gender. it's a 'thing'.
pdxlinux · 41-45, M
for most people it is an association, i.e. not a belief. most people are not atheists, but they are more likely expressing ignosticism or igtheism.

God is a perfect being.
What's your God's name?
Alyosha · 31-35, M
@zonavar68 Perfection can be defined as the highest tokens of all necessary types in a given domain. Whatever parts are necessary for an immortal, all-powerful being, God would have the fullest expression of them. As to my source of belief, I've seen visions. Not publicly tradeable evidence, but once you've established belief, the question arises "in what?" So I just ask myself what traits a god would have to be worthy of the name.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Okieta
God is just a title. All deities have specific names and attributes. Christians like to use the title and will hardly ever give their favorite imaginary being a specific name although he has about 6 names in the biblical fairytale.

@Diotrephes God is not a fairy tale . In fact when you see the satanism of our evil corrupted man in the world today I truly believe that God is my protector and preserver . In this day and age we need to see the danger signs of the yet to come and return of our messiah Jesus Christ our Lord . The Bible also states that fools make a mock of sin . The sin of calling God a fairy tale is a very dangerous thin ice to tread on my. I bet you believe that there is a devil but there is no God even if you don't , those people don't know ,God created Lucifer but because of his jealousy he got kicked out of heaven and wanted to destroy the Earth ever since then and try to destroy man and take souls away from the Lord. Nope I won't claim the ignorance of anybody that says God is very tail I believe in my father son and holy Ghost my rock my holy salvation I protector my preserver the Almighty. Thank you Jesus thank you so much for dying on the cross for me I'm so glad that I can have you turn your life because of what you have done.

I believe God exists solely in the minds of believers. They speak to God and also form appropriate responses. It's the conscience speaking (inner dialogue) and I see nothing wrong with that.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@SW-User there is a philosopher called Cioran, I read a book of him once and he says something like " I don't believe in God but i talk with him sometimes"

What is your God's name?
Talk about banal questions, God is God.
With the capital "G" and everything. You sound like the sort of person the "for Dummies" series is written for.

So far it seems that no one knows their God's name. How about calling him Imaginary?
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes The Time Bandits called him 'The Supreme Being' since they weren't on first name terms with him.

A better name would have been "The Supreme Hater." He hates people because of their ancestry and if they are handicapped.

God is not a "who"? It is not a person.
You need to ask, "What do you think God is?"

In the old days all of the big wigs were gods. The Roman emperor Hadrian made his boyfriend a god with his own temples and rituals.
The most recent god was the Japanese emperor, who got demoted as a result of WWII.

The misconception given to the US military by anthropologists and scholars was the Japanese people believed the Emperor was divine, due to his descent from the the goddess of heaven. Problem is, that wasn't true, no one in Japan thought that. Americans see what they are told to see.
Japan is not a democracy, as perceived by the US. The Japanese have an imperialistic culture similar to that of China. Even though the Diet is formed through elections, it defers to the Emperor. Despite getting put through the wringer by Mao to rid them of cultural superstitions, Xi Jinping is still regarded as "Son of Heaven". It is the title for Jesus in the Chinese Christian Bible.
In Chinese philosophy, there is no separation between divinity and man. Jesus is regarded as the perfect man (or human) incorruptible by evil tendencies (sins). Confucius teaching is all about the attainment of perfection, a goal for everyone; especially, the one who aspires to rule over others to bring about a harmonious society.
The western mindset is a matter of perception.
