Black teenager, Ralph Yarl, was shot and seriously wounded for ringing the wrong doorbell

The attacker was white, and has been released without charge.

So, SWers, what did he do to deserve this?
eMortal · M
Regardless of the color of the skin, since when is it normal to shoot people who ring your doorbell? If you’re scared don’t open and call the police.
Just shooting is a murder attempt.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@eMortal This.
@eMortal EXACTLY.
"The Clay County Prosecutor's Office announced that it filed two criminal charges against a suspect in the April 13 shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl in Kansas City, Missouri.

Andrew Lester, an 85-year-old white man, was charged with one count of felony assault in the first degree and one count of armed criminal action, also a felony, Clay County prosecuting attorney Zachary Thompson said during a press conference Monday evening."

What you also dont mention is that the kid was shot in the head and then, when lying on the ground shot again.

Who the fuck does that
@bijouxbroussard If the boy dies, it will be racially agrravated murder.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard @InOtterWords @SW-User The boy made it across the street, but had to knock on three doors before someone would answer and he could get help. The racist shooter was charged late yesterday on two felony counts carrying potential sentences of 10 to 30 and 5 to 15 years, respectively.
@windinhishair What a f*cked situation for all involved!
Of course not. You do not have a right to kill someone just because they are on your doorstep, not even in the U.S. "Stand your ground" is a justification for defending yourself when threatened, not a blank check to kill whomever you please.

It remains to be seen whether there was a racial aspect involved, but I suspect that there was. It doesn't matter in terms of legality (designating it a hate crime would not result in a greater penalty in this case), but it matters in that this kind of thing is an ongoing problem.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
The man who did the shooting should be charged with attempted murder. There is no justification whatsoever for his actions.
OnBroadway · 56-60, F
I was shocked to hear this. I am praying for this boy's recovery.
@Djofull
she was white, she was shot, so what did she do to deserve this ?
Also nothing. But her killer was charged with second degree murder, and there doesn’t seem to have been any question about it. Yarl’s shooter was initially released, until there was an outcry.

See the difference ?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MaBalzEsHari It is tough to be schooled and have your ignorance exposed, isn't it? That's really sad, because acknowledging facts is the first step in addressing issues. I admit urban crime is a problem that needs to be addressed, but that doesn't change the fact that gun deaths are higher in red states with high gun ownership rates. You refuse to even admit to yourself that it is a problem. No wonder the US can't address the gun crisis we have, when there are so many people like you who can't even see there is an issue.
@windinhishair You're like a turd that won't flush away. You don't get it no matter how blunt someone is. time to flush ur slow witted ass away.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MaBalzEsHari Like I said, your failure to comprehend facts isn't my problem. And insults won't change the facts no matter how much you whine about them.

And there it is! Another right-winger has blocked me after being challenged with--gasp!--facts! Unfortunately it is inevitable for the gun nuts who cannot accept actual facts and data and believe all crime is black crime in inner cities, while rural white crime just doesn't happen.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I'm not answering your loaded and insincere question.

It's being investigated. I am sure justice will prevail and I encourage you to stop doing the MSM's work and posting inflammatory and leading questions.

Nothing good will come of that.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Ok well then don't expect sincere and productive answers.

Sorry for busting up your outrage circle jerk.
here is no need to discuss this rationally. I’m not looking to discuss important issues here
I'll keep that in mind the next time I see one of your posts. You aren't interested in discussion you just want people to respond so you can feel some sort of way.

Nothing. But there’s going to be parties on both sides using this to advance their agenda.
@JaggedLittlePill Thank you. I’m so tired of the "fine people on both sides" when one side wants the other dead ! 😳
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@ByeFelicia ...literally...Bye Felicia! 🤣😂
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@bijouxbroussard I hear you and I am right there with you. Tired and sick of it.
That kid didn't deserve it.

Shooter is only released as they considered it as self defense. There could be charges later after more investigations.

@Katie01 It happened in the USA
Budwick · 70-79, M
The important thing is that you guys stir up emotion before knowing the whole story.
That way it's more difficult to present the truth.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@InOtterWords Keep the whackos safe from themselves.
@Budwick those are your words
Budwick · 70-79, M
@InOtterWords Correct
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Read that he entered the house.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User Maybe sometime you will be able to define what a legit source is.
@MrBrownstone It's fine. You are doing your very best to avoid admitting that you lied by obfuscating and deflecting at every possible opportunity :)

And guess what @windinhishair, just like the DownSouth guy, MrBrownstone refuses to provide a link that proves Ralph Yarl broke into this guy's house. Instead, deflection, obfuscation, accusations of lying, and then blocking. 🤣
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User You did a better job of not defining a legit source. But we both know it’s what you agree with that makes something legit.
I clicked on this expecting to see conservatives making excuses and defenses. I was not disappointed. Well, in one sense. 🤔
MarineBob · 56-60, M
If the homeowner felt threatened in any way it's justifiable in Missouri
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarineBob Being racist isn't a justifiable reason for shooting someone not trying to enter a residence and behind a door.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
That's an obvious murder.
@MrBrownstone There is no need to ask for a source when the story is the prevailing narrative across ALL the news channels. You, on the other hand, claim to have evidence that runs completely contrary to this.

So, the onus is on you to provide it.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SW-User You didn’t provide a source. I thought you were done with me? You a liar. Looks like it.
@MrBrownstone And there it is. It's because you don't trust the mainstream media. Sure, yes, I lied, along with every news channel in America and around the world.

You alone know the truth. Ralph Yarl broke into a defenceless white man's home who just happened to have a gun. We're done here. You win.
Really · 80-89, M
@windinhishair, @MaBalzEsHari
So tell me, where is the war zone?
The USA is the war zone; a place where questions about the deliberate, deadly shooting of an apparently innocent youth get turned into party-political propaganda and tribal-style interstate squabbling.
@Really Bam.........right on.
I also mean report strongbow’s posts for racism but he has blocked me
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User I did. And you responded to it, and now you are reporting it. You could have ignored it or deleted it, but decided escalation was the way to go...

...hence, my comment.
@SumKindaMunster I will report blatant racism.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User The just do it already, why is it necessary to have multiple comments making the threat?
TeirdalinBot · 31-35, M
Based on the information you provided, it seems that a black teenager named Ralph Yarl was shot and seriously wounded for ringing the wrong doorbell by a white attacker who was subsequently released without charge. It is a tragic incident that highlights the ongoing issue of racial injustice and violence in many parts of the world. It is important for society to work towards addressing these issues and ensuring justice and equality for all individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, or any other characteristic.
Ynotisay · M
My take is that it was an 80 year old dude who has been fed a steady diet of fear from those who want to keep people afraid.
Gotta be faster at ding dong ditch.

Nobody deserves this
@Quoththeraven That’s not what he was doing.
@bijouxbroussard I know gorgeous. Gotta laugh or I’ll cry.
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@waterthefields] 🤔sadly a black guy in the wrong place at the wrong time thankfully he was not killed
eMortal · M
I think it’s more a mental illness issue.
If it’s racism, it’s Hitler level type of racism
It was a mostly peaceful doorbell ringing
There is a thin line of right and wrong when "The Castle Law"..........or Stand Your Ground" laws are concerned. If video from any source backs up the old man...........he may have a case. If it backs up the black kid's statement.......the old man goes to jail. Until the evidence is known........who knows for sure?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Nothing that I've heard of. I've also heard the shooter didn't even open the door, just shot through it at the kid?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ChipmunkErnie That is correct.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I have to say the people defending the shooter here blew my mind. The best case defense I've seen is maybe he had dementia or was off his meds. I'm sorry, but if you have dementia or require medication to not shoot people out of paranoia you should not have a gun. I'm generally pro 2nd amendment, but this is yelling fire in a crowded room type of situation. People wanting to blame mental health instead of firearms need to be doing something about that mental health problem.

And if you may be a danger to yourself or others you should either be in a hospital or in a prison, depending on circumstance.
@ViciDraco That "defense" was the best gun control argument there is. Nobody suffering from dementia should have access to a deadly weapon.
@ViciDraco The other thing you have to remember about people "defending" the shooter is that there is undoubtedly a racial element as well. If the shooter was Black, he's guilty and should hang. But he's White (and old) therefore surely there must be a logical reason for his actions...surely....please....?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@SW-User I am definitely aware of the racial bias at play here.

I did not call race out because I was speaking prescriptively and believe the law should be applied evenly to all.

That's another barrier to break through. Though calling out racism up front tends to set people on the defensive and they stop listening to the whole argument. It doesn't feel good to dance around calling it what it is, but the r word is so emotionally charged that people automatically shut down.
Katie01 · F
He was only acting in self defence so absolutely deserves to be released without charge
@Katie01 There were no actions. He stood on the doorstep. The man said "Don't come around here again" and shot him twice through the glass door and once when he was on the ground.
Katie01 · F
@SW-User so he trespassed and didn't go away when asked. Shooting might be excessive but not unjustified. But sure, keep thinking of them as just black man and a white man. You're totally not racist

You Americans and your guns!
Couldn't happen almost anywhere else!
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Charges are being brought. And more could come. But for starters it's felony assault. Attempted murder is probably waiting based on what other information they can gather.
Woofwoof15 · 22-25, F
Released without charge?! :(
Was this in 'murica?
@OogieBoogie America has two main problems. It cannot accept that it is riddled with racism, and it cannot accept any form of gun control.
@SW-User The thing that worries me most is: I dont see it ever getting solved, its gone too far.

Racism should have ended decades ago. Gun laws should have been implemented decades ago.
But both have become so culturally ingrained theyve become social bleeding wounds that will never heal.
@OogieBoogie I have to agree. Especially the issue of guns. No matter how many school shootings there are, nothing will change; the NRA is too powerful.
Nothing. Guns are a permanent way to keep society from becoming a democracy. Like the cars and the poverty.
Ynotisay · M
@Roundandroundwego But in a Democracy people could vote out those who want to maintain the status quo around guns, right? So maybe it's the PEOPLE who control the policies.
@Ynotisay it really doesn't matter. Americans either wanted this carnage or can't stop it. They certainly can't do democracy.
Ynotisay · M
@Roundandroundwego Maybe one of these days you'll be able to actually visit the U.S. I'm not sure it's what you think it is bud.

No, he's turned himself in. He faces charges. Pay attention to updated news ok?

@strongbow I wish I was white, I hate being black, if I can come back as a different race, I want to come back as white. I am unworthy and being black is a curse from god.

I'm currently dating a white guy right now.

If I was white I would be accepted.
Sneedville · 22-25, F
@strongbow You're correct strongbow I am unworthy trash because I was born black.

That's it I'm bleaching my skin so the world can accept me, the world loved Michael Jackson more when he was white.

@Sneedville you should not think like that sorry you are still somebody too be respected no matter the colour of your skin. i am sorry that attitude lets racism win the day and that is never right
