Why do people add you as a follower here?

Do they think you will just add them back? Which kind of logic is that, the logic of desperation?

I am discerning of who I am accepting as “friends” here, just like I am in real life!

It's not about that. People follow you because they find something about you that they like. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to add them back. I take it as a compliment.

@WillaKissing In your case, I understand where you're coming from honestly. I've gotten fooled a time or two myself for lack of paying attention..
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@Tumbleweed @Degbeme Bless you both, Love ya Deg.

1. You like their posts and you want to follow them, so you can get better updates about them in your feeds/home page.
2. You add them and see it a better way to connect before communicating through messages.
3. You add them and expect them to add you back. That gives a sense of approval that you can message them personally, and they also admire the connection with them.
4. You add them just to show your respect and appreciation to their posts.

You can have one or more than one reason.

And some people might have some weird reasons apart from the above ones, which I am less concerned about.

My activity isn't hidden so it doesn't really matter if you are my friend or not. It just means that following someone means their activity comes up in my feed. At least that's how I understand it.
in my experience, someone following me - or adding me to their follow list is pretty much a direct translation to 'I don't want to talk to you at all, but I want to see what you post'. I'm sure a good number of people try to use it as a way to get more people following them.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
I get a lot more men seeing my profile picture without reading my about me section and sending me followings then PMs'. I ask each one of them in my reply PM have you read my about me section, if you have not, I seriously sub jest that you do before replying back to me.

It amazes me how many just run with lust over utilizing the brain God gave them.

I personally will tell folks that follow me that we need serious interactions on posts and replies and PM history before i follow back as well. Vetting anyone I decided to let into my world.

@WillaKissing Thank you and my pleasure to share my thoughts on the matter. Again, you are right. It just goes to show how most people prejudge others simply because of shallow appearance or assumption. And it is sad my friend, just as you say that people perceive you a certain way, simply because of your profile picture or preferences. I too go through the same on many various occasions. People see my appearance or hear my past and see simply criminal or gang member or something along those lines. And what they do not understand is not only I have served my country. I have been decorated. I tested it very high intelligence levels. And despite having the devil's mind.Sometimes I have a very kind compassionate in giving heart. I thank you though for being one of those open-minded individuals. And not prejudging me. I hope that your time here and your day continues with happiness and fulfillment in all things that you do
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@KingofBones1 Thank you very deeply. my fellow Veteran and brother.

@WillaKissing You are welcome and my door is open anytime. 🍻

As a woman, I can tell you that the ONLY reason why a man would follow you is because they hope to exchange visuals or at least, hope to get them from you.

Unless you have really interesting posts, there is no other reason why this would happen. Also, it all depends on the groups/forums you follow yourself.
EagerDaddy · 46-50, M
@Stephie Sounds a bit like 'womansplaining'...
They can't add you as follower. That only happens if you follow them.

If they follow you, that's probably because they like your content and want to see more of it.
EagerDaddy · 46-50, M
In a way it is also an offer of friendship, an outstretched hand that you can accept or not; "look at my profile and if you like it, I hope you want to be my friend". Not accepting that hand, is o.k.
Similarname · 46-50, M
Because they like your profile/pics/posts and want to be able to find you easily to pm you or look at your pics or posts again, and to be able to see your posts/comments in their site feed.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
It all depends on who I add. If I find their profile legitimate with good posts, then I will add them. Unfortunately, I get too many perverts and users with nothing posted wanting me to add them as friends. I just ignore those requests.
AllycatAD · 26-30
@Barefooter25 I need a message for that

Notice

"if you follow me, I may go in reverse"
Generally, it's so they can see more from you in their feed. They probably don't care about if you add them or not.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
It just means I want to see your posts on my feed
twistedrope · 26-30, M
To watch you.
I always feel like someones watching me.

And I have no privacy.
Intuitive · F
@twistedrope When you're in the shower are you afraid to wash your hair though ? :)
plasticpants02 · 70-79, M
i follow people because i like what they post. they dont need to follow me back.
You tell me LOL
I've, like, 3 followers... :(
Tumbleweed · F
@rinkydinkydoink I'll make four :)
@Tumbleweed

bless you 🥲
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
It’s often as simple as wanting your posts to show up in their feed more often.
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
Probably for all sorts of reasons
OldBrit · 61-69, M
So your posts more likely to appear in their feed. Essentially trying to get the algorithm to work in their favour.
If You have like minded interests and converse well with them, then being added by them is more likely going to happen.
