There is a card-reading method places like clubs are using now for things like facility-use fees, which uses an electronic reader and virtual keys.. (The latter requiring you use either a suitable stylus or you having fingers of Barbie-doll proportions).
Not infallible though as I found this morning. It declined my card twice. So I need traipse into town to pay by Bank Transfer. At least our town is lucky in having some bank branches still open!
Fortunately the car itself still works, as I found shortly after when I ordered a cafe lunch. I had enough cash but the shop was out of change!
All this electronickery is all well and good if and when it works. If it doesn't, as its enthusiasts fail to realise can happen, it is an embarrasing, inconvenient waste of space and electricity.

Either debit card or cash, depending on place and amount.
The shops are charged by the banks for doing their work for them, so for small amounts in independent shops I prefer to use cash.
Habitual credit card use puts you in long-term debt. I use that only for occasional, larger fees like car repairs or one-off expensive items.
Besides, I don't want a cash-less society for various social reasons.

@BrandNewMan If only the US government practiced that discipline
BrandNewMan · M
@AllycatAD Agreed .. hoping to see some progress there, despite the liberal protests
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@BrandNewMan One way of putting it!
MrGrumpy · M
I see lot here pay using debit. I always use CC (pay off balance in full) for two reasons
One, you can collect rewards/points on CC
Two, if your debit card details are stolen then you’ll never see that money again. With CC you can dispute the charges

@MrGrumpy not true. I’ve had my debit card hacked or whatever and I got my money back..
MrGrumpy · M
@Moneyonmymind Good to know. And be careful with your cards
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@MrGrumpy I’m much more careful now
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
Generally card. Cash is dirty.
I also hardly cab get to a cash point since they're closing so many banks. Some machines charge others don't. You gotta know which ones to use .

@Mellowgirl No ATMs elsewhere, such as at supermarkets and garages? (As you say, some do charge for their services though.)
I am lucky that my bank still has a branch in town, a short bus ride or even walk, away. The next branch is ten miles away but still accessible by bus, train or car.

I use my debit card for everything local, but seldom need to shop locally anymore. I buy everything online, and my favorite websites have my card information.

Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
Usually a credit card, and am careful to pay off the entire amount every month, so that no interest is charged, and small cash-back rewards are given.
TexChik · F
Depends on what I am buying.
Either cash or a debit card for a secondary account for shopping .

Cash or debit card only. I recently got a credit card for "emergencies", used it once, paid it off and put it away. Not getting into that hole again.
MrGrumpy · M
@bijouxbroussard As long as you pay in full, credit cards have advantages
bijouxbroussard · F

BrandNewMan · M
@smiler2012 Cards have their place and benefits .. airline card points have given us free airfare for paying routine bills/expenses. To each his own .. but there are some positive to card use if managed responsibly.

I use debit card.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
I use my card for everything I never have cash
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Cigarguy101 There are quite few things or events I go to where cash is the only practicable way!
American Express with bill paid in full every month. Cash for smaller purchases under about $20.

depends on whether it is a large or small purchase ... for a small purchase, cash is better than having another line item on a statement, but otherwise a credit card that gives cash back is used for bigger purchases, like over 10 USD, and is paid off monthly

Debit card. Cash is one of the filthiest things people touch on a regular basis. Credit cards, however, are bad news.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@LordShadowfire Coins can be grubby but so is using anything in town: hand-rails, door-plates, etc.. I just wash my hands before touching food.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@ArishMell It's extremely wise. I had someone try to argue that coins and bills aren't that disgusting. My favorite question to ask when people doubt that narrative is, if you were walking along and you saw a $100 bill in a mud puddle, would you pick it up? The answer is invariably yes before they realize just what could potentially be in a mud puddle on the side of the road.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Both, however I use debit more
