Either debit card or cash, depending on place and amount.
The shops are charged by the banks for doing their work for them, so for small amounts in independent shops I prefer to use cash.
Habitual credit card use puts you in long-term debt. I use that only for occasional, larger fees like car repairs or one-off expensive items.
Besides, I don't want a cash-less society for various social reasons.

@ArishMell Credit card use does not create debt .. lack of discipline in financial mgmt creates debt. I've paid credit card balances fully each month for decades. It is about budgeting and discipline to live within your income.

@BrandNewMan I understand that but I think many users do not, so do live in perpetual debt.

@ArishMell A credit card is a tool .. and like a gun, not everyone should have or use them. That is not a refection on the tool, but rather the user.

@BrandNewMan If only the US government practiced that discipline

@AllycatAD Agreed .. hoping to see some progress there, despite the liberal protests

@BrandNewMan One way of putting it!
