The ancient Egyptians stored large amounts of grain. Rodents ate up their grain. It was a very serious problem. Then cats came out of the desert to eat up the rodents. The Egytian's grain supply was saved. They thought the Gods sent cats to save them. The Egyptians worshipped cats ever since.

Got rid of the mice and other rodents which carried diseases, so cats literally made it a healthier place, also maybe helped with snakes
