The ancient Egyptians stored large amounts of grain. Rodents ate up their grain. It was a very serious problem. Then cats came out of the desert to eat up the rodents. The Egytian's grain supply was saved. They thought the Gods sent cats to save them. The Egyptians worshipped cats ever since.

Aside from cats protecting grain and crops. One of their many gods they worshipped- Bastet ( God of protection, pleasure and bringer of good health) was depicted as female with a cat head
