What’s the most outdated advice people still give seriously?

"Buying a house is the key to building wealth"

^ This was fine advice back when job security & company loyalty existed, and you worked at the same factory or whatever for 40 years and then retired. Nowadays, the best way to build wealth is to chase opportunity, and that means not settling down in one place forever.

"Time is a great healer." It's absolute bollox. If you lose someone you love there is no amount of time that passes where it no longer hurts.

All my nieces and nephews (aged around 7 to 16) call me outdated when I advise them using this quote,

Study hard and you’ll rise high;
Just play all day and you’ll fall behind.

Vaccines protect you. See your doctor, he or she will help you.

"There's one person out there for everyone"

My bf is my soul mate but I'd still rather die than only be romantic or sexual with just him for the rest of my life

Probably when people are lonely and someone says, "Put yourself out there" even though no one is sure where "out there" even is. 😄
