4th grade spelling teacher Mrs. Martin
4th grade math teacher Mr. Winfrey
5th grade math teacher Mrs. Summers
6th grade P.E. teacher Coach Patrick
8th grade study hall teacher Mrs. Kirksey
12th grade drama teacher Mr. Hawkins
They were equally terrible. I lived in a tiny town in the Bible Belt and these people were all hand-picked by the super religious school board.

@originnone really?
originnone · 61-69, M
@DearAmbellina2113 Yeah, but you have that kind of mind. You are able to find the most significant details to make things work. I see that in your cooking, in how you handle situations, etc....
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@originnone wow, thank you!
One of my university tutors.
She was super smart, but young, inexperienced, and extremely immature for her age (like a 13-year-old).
During online Zoom tutorials, she usually commented that she couldn't wait for it to be over so she could have a glass of wine - or I'd see her actually drinking one.
She was a highly political animal. Crafty. Sly. Manipulative. She had schmoozed so effectively with the head of department that over several years she had pushed out all the other staff - only she and the head left.
Several students left the course because of her paranoid misinterpretations of their comments. I saw and heard her critique them for sexism, racism and other forms of political incorrectness when I knew them personally and knew they were profoundly open-minded, non-prejudiced people. These five students never finished the course because of her attacks.
On the plus side, she could give good feedback on an assignment or creative work: fast, thorough, and technically brilliant on academic method and structural, copy and proof editing.
But she approached the rest of her teaching and tutorial relationships with incredible arrogance.
Later, I heard one student stood up to her. Then the others chimed in.
And she was finally sacked.

Miss Harris, she was cross-eyed.

The one who made me write, like 100 times, "I must not be disobedient" cause I spoke like 1 sentence in class. That's not teaching, that's bullying.
Caned4doz · 61-69, M
@Matt85 I'm in Australia and what you describe was called 'lines'. It was a common form of punishment for small indiscretions, but I never thought of it as bullying. When you say you spoke one sentence in class, do you mean you talked when you (and the class) had been told to be silent? If so, then really, that is disobedience.
If you think 100 lines was bad, I got 500 lines one time when I admitted to my history teacher that I had the due date for an assignment wrong; I thought I had another week to finish it, but instead I had one day. He gave me the weekend to finish the assignment and an extra two days to do the lines.

Teacher Hamida from middle school.
One time on a test I asked her to clarify one question a bit bc it wasn't clear to me and she made a scene insulting me in front of the other kids calling me stupid & other names. She was a psycho

@SW-User There are, unfortunately, people teaching who shouldn’t even be allowed near children. 😡

I had a history professor who I think hated the student body and thought teaching at our college was beneath him. I had a lot of fun asking him questions I knew he couldn’t answer.
Torsten · 36-40, M
a teacher who would actually assault us. Would have been grade 3 and 4 i had her. She was a utter lunatic. She would lean over you while you were writing and if you made one mistake she would grab you by the back of the neck and pull you around yelling and throwing verbal abuse your way and would basically push you into a wall.
That is just one example anyway.
It got the the point I remember my father coming into the class one day and telling her in front of us all that if she ever touched me or my brother again that he would end up putting her in the ground. A full on threat that he meant every word of. Never seen my father that angry before.
Was due to something she did to my brother the day before.
She never laid a hand on us again after that. She did still to other kids though. Was eventually fired

@Torsten Had an 8th grade shop teacher long known for chunking pieces of wood at students. He was fired three years after I had him for drinking on the job... explained those red, beady eyes...

Mr. Lawrence. He was an ancient grade 8 teacher with zero rapport with any of his students. He wore a blue, pinstriped, 1940's style, double-breasted blue suit the first half of the year - every school day - and an identical brown suit the next half school year.

😆 Ha ha, she had a giant bee hive hairdo and would yell for you to break down the fraction on the board.
Tapping the chalkboard with her pointer.👵🏾
Her antics, and dysfunction in the workplace were legend among her colleagues. I was hearing about her 20 years later from others who'd worked with her.
Her husband--a chemistry teacher was the nicest guy 😅

6th grade homeroom teacher. - Liked to physically assault us in the storeroom where he couldn't be seen doing it.
6th grade PE teacher - She took the 'hands on approach' to a whole different level.
And everybody was terrified by the Librarian but thankfully she didn't teach.

A few -
3rd grade - Some teacher who had her two teacher's pets and the azz kissing was beyond comprehension.
Middle school -
There was this big fat ugly bulldyke lesbian gym teacher (typical female gym coach) who would yell and scream all the time. Her name was Ms Tibbets but we used to call her "Ms Two-butts"
Also some teacher of a positive thinking class, Mrs Spakee or whatever. She was old and ugly enough to be Alice Cooper's grandma.
OH and though she was not "bad" per se, but didn't have much business teaching. 10th grade literature teacher. She was always distracted with gossip OR would take her pills, drink whatever was in her thermos, and pass out on her desk. I am not complaining, it meant "free class day" which was most days. 😁 I never lifted a pencil in her class and still passed.

Mr Vandeberg, 8th grade math. If I raised my hand he wouldn’t call on me, but if I didn’t he’d make me go up to the board and ridicule me for not knowing how to solve the problem. Still boggles my mind why exactly he took a disliking to me. He was fine with everyone else. 🤷♀️

i had a deaf professor of Algebra in college who didn't wear a hearing aid, read lips, or know sign language. he also administered unnumbered, unlined, handwritten tests and pop-quizzes. i don't remember his name, because i dropped the class after two weeks

Hard to choose one worst one, among several really bad ones. Starting with Mr. Fielding in the 5th grade, who was fixated on matters not related to actual school subjects. His main thing was talking about his time in the Foreign Legion or something, and insisting we learn all the words to the song "Green Berets". He made us march around the playground singing it, to the amusement and derision of the other kids. It's pretty funny, on reflection.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Neoerectus Yeah, it pretty much would. I've never forgotten the first stanza of the "Ballad of the Green Berets", though!
Neoerectus · M
@Piper Lousy John Wayne movie. He was his usual, but pretty facile propaganda movie.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Neoerectus I don't remember ever watching the movie, so couldn't say if I agree about it being lousy.

my ethnolinguistics teacher. all I leaned was a series of random anectdotes, I didn't end up with a significantly better understanding of ethnoliguistics than I had before the course.

I had this old biddy who told us to get our supplies and then scolded me for getting up to get said supplies. I don't even remember her name because she was a substitute

Eh..a guy who seemed to have a bit of a problem with expressing his thoughts verbally and a lack of talent for explaining stuff. Very unreliable, constantly cancelling classes without giving a notice beforehand, coming late...I bet he was a fine person otherwise but desperately lacking qualities that a good teacher should have.
Then some of the nastiest persons were unfortunately very good teachers. I don't know if they make you remember stuff through trauma or something but they simply make you remember it.

Hmmmm. My third grade teacher. She was undiagnosed bipolar and terrified everyone.
akindheart · 61-69, F
college political science. and the professor was my neighbor. boring
My grade 5 teacher. Looking back I was going through so much that year and there would have been so many warning signs. At school I was being terribly bullied and she would sometimes join in for laughs from the other students. She flat out hated me for some reason. Thankfully that’s the one and only teacher I’ve ever had like that.

The biochemistry professor in the BIOLOGY 101 class everyone at my college used to have to take. He came into the lecture hall and for 4 days did nothing but write chemical formulas on the blackboard and talk with such a strong Chinese accent no one could understand him.
Tuscan · 70-79, M
I had a History teacher, who totally destroyed any enthusiasm I had for the subject. That could have been due to a mutual dislike we had for each other rather than any lack of subject knowledge or teaching skill on his part though.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
A Mormon logic/philosophy college teacher that would laugh at his own jokes, yet not a student in any of his classes, would even crack a smile.
Guy would sort of push his religion in class on top of that.
Please! Mormonism and logic really don't mix. 😖

I was in college. I don't remember his name. I had done a sculpture out of plexiglass squares for class, (my homework), and he hated it so much he made me stand up while he insulted and humiliated my work, and me. I just stood there and cried in front of everyone.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
This miserable dude that was in charge during latchkey. Not technically a teacher but still. He made me write an essay on why I'm sorry for getting up and throwing out my trash. Apparently I had to wait for it to be collected. He berated me for my grammar too.

I have several teachers from my elementary/middle school and one college professor who are on the list of worst teachers. My high school teachers were never on that list. They were pretty respectful and fair.

Didn’t really have any great teachers in school . But two stand out: Mrs HV (primary/intermediate), Mrs Hubbard(high school English )
P.S I looked up Mrs HV a couple of years ago on Google . found a death notice, was mildly glad
