It’s an exaggeration, but it doesn’t help when Trump says he will be a “dictator” or that he plans to purge the federal bureaucracy and appoint his own toadies.

Conservative news outlets do the same thing when they accuse Democrats of being “socialists” or “communists.” No Democrat has called for the nationalization of private industry or outlawing private property. Same when Democrats are accused of “hating God” when many leading Democrats are devout Christians. For example, Obama, Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Pete Buttigieg. Delaware Senator Chris Coons co-chairs the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast.
Carazaa · F
@LeopoldBloom That is a true statement!
joe438 · 61-69, M
@LeopoldBloom You're right that it's not a party platform, but a number of Dems have suggested that the government is better suited to own property than we are. In 2017, de Blasio (then mayor of NYC) said precisely that. https://nypost.com/2017/09/05/a-plea-to-democrats-to-back-anyone-but-de-blasio/ Fortunately these calls for abolishing individual rights haven't gained traction, but they're out there along with crazy right-wing nonsense that also falls flat.
@joe438 And some Republicans have expressed the viewpoint that the US should be a Christian theocracy, or that all government regulation should be abolished, with the "free market" regulating all transactions.

And that article is nothing more than a hysterical screed implying that de Blasio is responsible for every bad thing that happens in America, including many things that are only happening in right wing fever dreams. But let's look at his actual statement:
“Our legal system is structured to favor private property,” he said, insisting that “people would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be.”

For good measure, he added: “If I had my druthers, the city government would determine every single plot of land, how development would proceed. And there would be very stringent requirements around income levels and rents. That’s a world I’d love to see.”
He's not talking about government confiscation of private property, he's talking about increased regulation, including zoning restrictions and rent controls, which have existed in NYC for a long time already. In fact, nearly every city in America has zoning restrictions. This is why someone can't build a toxic waste processing plant next to your house. This is a far cry from the "abolition of private property."

You don't have to believe any media lies, the guy is happy to spout his insane rants on camera during rallies and interviews. You just have to watch him with your own eyes and listen to him with your own ears. The insidious genius of the Trump campaign is to convince weak minded people NOT to trust their own senses, but to trust Trump's warped version of reality.

If you are not curious enough to look deeply into trump's past... i mean interviews, business failures, old newspaper articles, tabloid articles (which trump himself initiated), legal filings...then you really don't care why the left, and those you call rinos on the right, feel how they do about donald trump.
When he became potus, he lived up precisely, to what we expected of him.
But it's you people(yeah...i read this whole thread. If you didn't vote for trump it's because you couldn't for some reason) that i am so disappointed in. I never in a million years believed so many people could fall victim to such a pedestrian conman.

It has little to do with cnn. It has much to do with trumps own words and actions for the past fifty odd years.

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Carla You tell me. How did that strike you?
Carazaa · F
He is a criminal who does not care about people, and will probably go to prison. I get upset that he calls himself a christian because he lies and is NOT loving, therefore not a christian at all! He puts Jesus to shame. So sad. No born again christian would ever vote for him. People who love him also love violence, guns, and they hate foreigners and homeless, etc. Jesus told us that there would be false Jesus in the last generation. Trump is a false Jesus. People worship him, but it is really Satan that they worship.
specman · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom I already said in a previous comment that I tend to judge that’s one of my downfalls. I don’t claim to be perfect in following Jesus’s teachings as she does. I don’t act holier than thou like she does. I know it is not right to judge and Jesus even teaches that she apparently doesn’t. It just irks me when someone acts holier than thou and think they do no wrong and will publicly admit it. Christian’s are not perfect we all fall short of the Glory of God without Jesus.
Carazaa · F
@specman
You are laying the accusations on thick for someone who acts holier than thou!
Glad you are against judging and that I am not running for office but Trump is. And he is not at all judgmental or holier than thou... 😂

needsmilk808 · 56-60, M
Trump is definitely no Hitler nor could he be compared as such.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@SumKindaMunster of course not. You don’t know me personally so it’s just hearsay!
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Handfull1 Interesting. You aren't an American but your profile says you live in the United States.

I ask, because any average American could watch this clip and understand that Trump is joking. He's essentially saying, No, I won't be a dictator, but on my first day as President I will dictate that we close the Southern border and drill drill drill(whatever that means).

That's why I asked the questions I did. He's clearly speaking in jest and the MSM has decided to take him literally even though that's the wrong take. If you can't see he is joking then you are missing the point.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@SumKindaMunster you missed my point also. And if you knew I was from the US, why did you ask? Of course, I could be an illegal immigrant and just live here! 🙄🙄🙄
That's an exaggeration. What people ARE doing is getting worried about Trump's existing promises to abuse the power of the presidency.
"You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?" Hannity asked.

"Except for Day One," Trump said.
Clearly, Trump is promising that he WILL abuse power on Day One. And what else has Trump said along those line??

Trump has plainly stated that he wants dictatorial powers with which to punish his enemies. And he sent a mob to violently overthrow Congress, but they failed. It was, as Mitch McConnell said, a "failed insurrection."

About a year ago Trump called for the U.S. Constitution to be suspended so that he could return to the Presidency.
A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!
Trump says he plans to invoke the Insurrection Act so he can dispatch the military to counter any demonstrations that might resist his policies.
If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.
It's been widely reported that Trump said privately he'll order the Department of Justice to pursue prosecutions of his former aides and officials who have criticized him. In his crosshairs are former chief of staff John F. Kelly, former attorney general William Barr, his ex-attorney Ty Cobb, and former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Mark A. Milley; not to mention practically every elected official with a D after their name.

@bijouxbroussard this is all entertainment. These people, many of them, had no interest or skin in the politics game before trump came on the scene. It's like they somehow are an important character in a realty tv program. These questions are to to create drama.

The man is a criminal…minions love him still
The man is in just and immoral…minions don’t care
The man will throw his very own children under the bus to save himself…minions don’t care

The problem is his lies are minions facts and that is the sad thing

So he may not be undertaking a genocide, but everything that comes out of his mouth, says "My highest ambition is to become a dictator and a tyrant", and during his term, he actually tried to put it into practice, but was held back by the Constitution. In his second term, he might be able to find additional Constitutional loopholes, to get what he wants.

We are neither a dictatorship nor a monarchy.
Ynotisay · M
Or why do Americans who need enemies to blame for their own shit play the "fake news" card because that's what they've been fed like dogs? Bud. You couldn't pull one quote from a mainstream news outlet saying Trump is Hitler. If you hear anything along those lines it's opinion and it's coming from the VERY real fact that many machinations of the Nazi movement are mirroring what's playing out today. You know, mass manipulation through lies and nationalism.
Now as far as the hate that's very explainable. All it takes is some self-respect, empathy for others and the ability to to discern truth. Maybe that's you. Maybe that's not.

they're all complacent with the status quo, career politicians getting away with whatever they want; Trump not being one really mixed things up for them, putting the spotlight on their misdeeds and corruption. The people that oppose him all have something to hide, and certainly don't want to be exposed to their constituents for what they really are...

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
I don't believe that. I don't believe Biden is a Marxist or Socialist either.

I'm glad you are asking this question.

I believe the answer is because the system is so deathly afraid of him retaliating for what was done to him, and more importantly, like when he was elected in 2016, to show that in fact the people that run this country DO NOT CARE about its citizenry and their wants and desires. We are a tax base to be exploited, and a settled Western society to dump immigrants into.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Because thinking Americans have looked at the facts, at his history, and know the truth.
Puppycat23 · F
He was a terrible president that even members of the GOP hated. Has a crazy fan base that sends death threats to opponents, acted like a dictator, and Instigated January 6th riots because he lost re-election.
Ynotisay · M
@Puppycat23 Presidential historians, who don't have a dog in the fight, are already listing him as one of the two or three worst Presidents in U.S. history. And that's based on accomplishments and actions.
So that makes it clear that his cult gives two shits about his performance. They just want to whine and yell about their made up enemies. That's what they've been fed and it's all that matters.
The media, ALL media, is going to say whatever it needs to for ratings which leads to more money. It isn’t informative news, it’s opinion news.
@Pinkstarburst The difference here is that Trump insists on speaking for himself.

DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Trump isn't anything unto himself — he's just a grifter, and a stupid one at that — but his cult views him as the tip of the spear in their goal to turn America into a neo-feudal, authoritarian, corporate theocracy. He has become a symbol, and if he cannot be held accountable for his actions and crimes, then we are doomed as a functional democracy.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I believe CNN and the rest of mass media. Why do you believe conspiracy theories, undocumented Internet blogs, and Citizen-Cry-Baby-trump?
I've never heard him described as the next Hitler but describing him as an aspiring fascist is accurate if you know what fascism is.
joe438 · 61-69, M
You’re right, the unsubstantiated claims are quite laughable. He’s no saint, probably not a nice guy and not the best businessman, but he tried harder to work within the system as President than Joe who had defied the SCOTUS and is being more dictatorial than Trump was.

I really wish we didn’t have to choose between these guys again. No one competent and likeable wants the job,
