Encouraging children not to steal, kill, lie or cheat??!! What are they trying to do to these kids?!

@Reason10 You hear cases about cruel nun convents in the past, whipping people and general sadism. Does immorality start at Bible study for you? I'm curious
Mark4793 · 46-50, M
@SatanBurger yeah, I think I saw a thing on the news the other day about cruel nuns whipping people 😄

More insanity from the loony right.
Producing yet more looney children who grow to be looney right gun praising in one hand and a bible they can't read in the other.

Pedophelia and child abuse is more in line of blue states.

“For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!”

So much for the Constitution
now, cite us exactly where you think the Constitution forbids display of ten commandments on college campuses... 🤔
@NativePortlander1970 they got around the clause somehow
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@NativePortlander1970 posting the 10 commandments isn't congress establishing a religion...
The context of the 1st Amendment is lost on so many people, that it no longer surprises me anymore.
It was never written to forbid religious worship in government as so many erroneously claim; it was designed to prevent government from adopting a state religion & perpetrating inquisitions & persecution against those who didn't believe what they told you to believe and how to believe it...
like the Church of England and Catholic Church have done for hundreds of years, both of which are oblivious to actual scripture and sound Christian doctrine; i.e. they used religion to exert power, not honor Christ...
The anglo-saxons, viking converts, etc. (the predecessors of England as a country) were in reality, no better than the pagans they claimed to abhor. They weren't the Godly people history makes them out to be.
Our forefathers realized all this of course, and wanted to ensure that history didn't repeat itself in the new world...
But to claim that government cannot adhere to any precepts of religion is pure lunacy, as the rules & laws that govern society, morality, ethics, etc. are all based on scripture. We have the Constitution because of the Bible, not in spite of it.
To completely oppose any religious society is to endorse complete anarchy & chaos.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As a society we don't need the Ten Commandments. We are perfectly capable of distinguishing right from wrong. It is ironic that it is the conservative Christian right with their religion and Ten Commandments that can't determine right from wrong.

There's only one Commandment that the conservative religious right should follow Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself

But the first commandment stands in opposition to the first amendment.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
ok... what does the constitution say?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
@boudinMan Separation of Church and State is about protecting the minorities from the majority religion. That’s the point. And if I’m not mistaken the state of Arkansas believes that Satanism qualifies as a religion. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled that because the Ten Commandments were displayed on government property that Satanists were welcome to display their statue of Baphomet in front of the courthouse. I seem to recall that quite a lot of conservatives were “totally pissed” about that, and yet it happened in one of the reddest states in the country. You think it can’t happen where you live too, you’re wrong.

Christianity is the largest brranch of Judaism. All Christians, regardless of demonination, are Jews by religiion.
actually, it does matter. christianity is by far the largest religion in america, so it only stands to reason that it would have the most support. and as i have previously stated, if there is support for other religious texts/symbols, display them as well. it isn't difficult to understand, is it?

Pass gun laws until you’re blue in the mouth, but they won’t prevent criminals from getting guns any more than Prohibition prevented people from getting liquor or marijuana laws prevented people from getting weed.

You might find this nugget interesting.
I listened to a judge commenting on the constitutionality of it today. Apparently the 10 Commandments are posted everywhere in Washington DC. They are on the doors of the Congressional library, they are above the Speaker's chair in the House, and they are there because, historically, they are the first set of known laws.
Because they are laws, and because the founders felt that they were the basis for our nation's morality, they have been included and incorporated into our own laws.
The judge said that they have transcended religion, and have become a matter for historical study, and are an element of Civics.
For that reason, she said that it is possible the state of Louisiana might win all the lawsuits being brought against it. Let's wait and see, shall we?

@specman Okay, here we go with this one again. Because of course, the Christians invented the idea that killing and stealing are bad, right? There were no civilizations before Christianity was founded that came up with the idea that maybe we shouldn't murder other humans or take their stuff?
Oh, and by the way...
Just because a religion is popular, that doesn't mean you get to cram it down my throat.

The Extreme Right are already under the impression that when a judge dies, all of their rulings just miraculously go away with them. So I guess we'll need to take this to the Supreme Court again. I wish they would just read the Constitution and the Rulings of the Supreme Court and stop wasting America's time. 🙄

There must be balance in all things. If you push hard in one direction, an equal and opposite push will arrive from the other direction.
Now comes the equal and opposite push...in response to Woke-ism in schools.

Republicans and he Constitution is like Republicans and the Bible. Cherry pick what you want to prove some kind of point.......disregard the rest if it gets in the way of them making sense.
The Constitution purposedly and clearly prevents church and state from mixing...........so screw that.......we want it too so just overlook that part..

It's not necessarily a violation of the First Amendment.

@HoraceGreenley
1: It is a direct violation of law handed down by the Supreme Court in 1980.
2: It would not be a violation of law if other religious documents were hung as well, like the 10 pillars of Islam, or the Ten Words in the Torah.

Boys and girls, ONCE AGAIN the Substitute Teacher here has to educate the uneducated in the bunch, (which includes you left wing goose steppers.)
I grew up in a Catholic private school. (in North Carolina.) I learned about the tenets of the Catholic faith IN CLASS. Subjects included "religion" and "Catechism." It wasn't necessarily a place for Christians who were Protestant, but there were quite a few there. And they weren't treated any differently than the Catholics.
At age 18, I walked away from the Catholic Church (which caused a few problems because I was the church organist at the time.) I pretty much have shunned ALL forms of organized religion.
I'm not threatened by it, but I see no need to participate.
The First Amendment was designed to prevent another CHURCH OF ENGLAND, which was one of the major reasons the colonists sought out the New World. At the same time, it was designed to prevent government from outlawing the free exercise of religion.
Posting the Ten Commandments on a school wall is NOT a religion. I grew up in a religious school. I know the difference.
Just remember this (for you people wanting to bash Christians). There are ZERO records of any Christians flying planes into tall buildings.

Diotrephes · 70-79, M

How is displaying the Ten Commandments somehow against the Constitution?
Here is the First Amendment.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Let's see. CONGRESS did not mandate that Louisiana schools display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
CONGRESS did not prohibit Louisiana from the free exercise of displaying those Commandments.
What religion did this establish? Judaism? Christianity?
You need to learn to read.

@Reason10 That's funny, I took bible as literature as my English elective my senior year of high school, the first day was like a worship service, I was the ONLY Atheist that signed up, I never went again after that, transferring to photojournalism.
Reason10 · 70-79, M
@NativePortlander1970 They had that in the public schools I attended after I left that Catholic school. As you did, we studied religion as a form of literature.
@Reason10 That class my senior year was a church within school as a disguise, it was discovered the teacher was a youth group leader within her own sunday congregation.
