ok... what does the constitution say?

@boudinMan
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion [known as the “Establishment Clause”] or prohibiting the free exercise thereof [known as the “Free Exercise Clause”]…

@SW-User did you skip over this part?
or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

@SW-User how does displaying the 10 commandments establish one religion for the country? the argument can be made that it reflects the majority view of the people in the state.

@boudinMan government establishing a religion. Forbidden

@SW-User displaying the commandments is not passing a law establishing a religion.

@boudinMan It kinda does prefer one religion over another. There is no other religious faction in the US (that I'm aware of) that wants to push their commandments in everyones face. But a segment of Christianity, believes that they have the right to push their ideas into federal funded institutions. And everyone that isn't christian, should give them the finger for that.
And the hypocrisy is quickly detectable, once any of those christians, get faced off with the demand of anyone else doing the same thing. But hypocrisy is all the rage when you are an authoritarian christian.

@Kwek00 then display the equivalent from other popular religions in the state alongside the 10 commandments. how many muslims or even jewish people do you think live in louisiana? the reason they want to display the 10 commandments is because the state is predominantly christian... mostly catholic. not that difficult to understand really... but, you prefer the heavy hand of government above all else.

@JSul3 that's one opinion.
the constitution guarantees that no law shall be made regarding the establishment of a single religion, nor shall it prohibit the free exercise of religion. i say if enough people want to display religious texts in schools, let them do it. i doubt many people would support displaying the church of satan commandments or the atheist creed.

@JSul3 ok, try to focus... are you ready? if there is enough support in a state to display religious symbols or texts, then i support the right of the people to do so. it isn't necessary to display all such symbols or texts because there is undoubtedly little or no support for it.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Kwek00 actually, it does matter. christianity is by far the largest religion in america, so it only stands to reason that it would have the most support. and as i have previously stated, if there is support for other religious texts/symbols, display them as well. it isn't difficult to understand, is it?

@boudinMan Separation of Church and State is about protecting the minorities from the majority religion. That’s the point. And if I’m not mistaken the state of Arkansas believes that Satanism qualifies as a religion. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled that because the Ten Commandments were displayed on government property that Satanists were welcome to display their statue of Baphomet in front of the courthouse. I seem to recall that quite a lot of conservatives were “totally pissed” about that, and yet it happened in one of the reddest states in the country. You think it can’t happen where you live too, you’re wrong.
