Do you think politicians inherently evil?

4meAndyou · F
No. I think one or two of them are champions for good...like Jim Jordan, House Representative for the 4th district of Ohio. He doesn't seem to mind wrestling with the evil one...(Nancy Pelosi), and many of us have noticed and appreciate him. The same can be said for Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida. I really admire his brains, guts, and determination to take care of his people.
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
@akindheart We have a hard row to hoe! These blunders and disasters are all completely intentional. The addlebrained idiot talking to the TV is intentional. Every mistake they have made, and are making is intentional.
I promise you!
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Oberon1 you don't have to tell me that. I know!! and i agree with you.
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
@akindheart I know that you know that I know! It is obvious! It is not the collective. You have Charles Drew, GW Carver, MLK, we are all stardust. That is why I know that "culturalist" is a more accurate term than, "scientific racist".
You only get to see and hear from those backed with big money..
good ppl can’t get the big bucks because they won’t sell out so easy..
then it’s the same old story. They work for the interest not the ppl who voted
@SW-User place holders..
they take orders on what bills to write and go to go after
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout
When was the last time you seen the media give air time to a nobody?
If you think about it, they only give air time to the 2 puppets. A dem and a repub…. Automatically reducing the race to 2 ppl because it’s brainwashing ppl into thinking it’s the only 2 choices..
SW-User
@cherokeepatti Sadly that doesn't surprise me. There was a whole bunch of confusion over the American Sniper fellow, the guy the film was based on. I don't imagine that exactly helped him either. Might have been a mandate to have that highlighted too. All a misunderstanding imho anyway as yer man had some PTSD but also wasn't there to speak for himself given that he is no longer alive to do so.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Agreed. It's quite blatant.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
No, of course not. A lot of politicians get into politics, at least in part, because they want to make a difference, to make the world a better place. Sure, maybe some become seduced by the power and being in the spotlight — even in a small office like the local school board or what have you — but what most realize is that to do anything or get anywhere requires diplomacy and compromise, both of which can sometimes be less than savory for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, we live in a time when both have been demonized to the point where it's all but impossible for a dedicated, pragmatic politician to make any progress without at least giving lip service to the lunatic fringe on either the left or the right.
SW-User
@DunningKruger Yep. Hence Bill Clinton.
HazyDayz · 36-40
I think a lot of them are psychopaths
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
My discernment tells me that some politicians are inherently evil. Some only subscribe to an inherently evil ideology, and others are just human, doing right things and wrong things.
SW-User
@Oberon1 Yep. And some probably are simply told to think about their families as a coded message. It is very sad, and very scary indeed. Those people intimidate everyone into doing their bidding.
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
@SW-User We live in "interesting times" my brother.
Strap in and grab something solid.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Some of them on the lower levels start out OK and then get corrupted by ambition and learning what they can get by with as they work their way up in politics.

@RogueLoner Here’s a better analogy. Kind of like when someone who is just an everyday criminal goes to prison for a crime and they get prison education on how to steal and do other crimes and get by with it with the other prisoners teaching them throughout their prison sentence. They learn more & more if they are there longer.
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
No, not most of them. It's just the presence of money always attracts crooks and swindlers.

The U.S. political systems, Republicans and Democrats both, has been subverted by corporate money. The bribes are mainly in the form of campaign contributions. Some politicians, like Bernie Sanders, have refused corporate bribery. The solution is real campaign finance reform. And the Supreme Court overturning the disastrous Citizens United Decision.

Read Jane Mayer's book Dark Money.

@badminton "The love of money is the root of all evil." 👍

Often misquoted as "Money is the root of all evil." Not so.
TexChik · F
In today's climate ? yes. Most , but not all are corrupt or are easily corrupted. A political career is the opportunity to lie, cheat, and steal for personal gain and wealth.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik had a governor who started pushing for private prisons being built in Oklahoma. More and more people were getting sent up the river and he had a blood type analyst that was often called to testify in court. I heard later that he had a silent partner heavily invested in private prisons. The way the prisons were being run it seemed they wanted to stress the prisoners out to get them more time or to serve their entire sentence and not get probation and early release even for the lesser crimes. When DNA testing became available the indigent defense lawyers had their work cut out for them. There were at least two men sent to prison for rapes they didn’t commit and one had served a long time and got released thanks to the work of the indigent defense lawyers. Anyway it got a lot of national publicity and eventually the two freezers that held much of the evidence lost “power” and the evidence in them was destroyed. This while the governor was still in power. That blood type expert was also under fire for her shoddy work, she was right up the governor’s butt. She is dead now. And the governor’s son was about to go off to college and his mother was selling their golden retriever’s puppies and telling the news it was to help with the boy’s college fund. Not long after that someone dug around and found out that a wealthy person had donated $100,000 to the boy’s college funds. This before the puppy thing. And the puppies died before they could be sold. I thought that whole thing was really revealing.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
TexChik · F
@cherokeepatti Nope its how they are getting their money. Biden's son already alluded to that.
I’m bored so I’ll keep ranting.. dems just tried to pass a bill to make their election campaign tax payer funded..
Meaning any outsider would need presidential election money to topple an incumbent…
It’s hard enough being honest and trying to get in..

Luckily it and the filibuster bill failed..
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Federalizing the voting system would have been the death of this country, so I am also very relieved!
GeniUs · 56-60, M
I think most have never lived under the circumstances that ordinary people do and have no idea what is needed for the majority of the population. Also as others have pointed out power corrupts them too.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@GeniUs The career politicians who have had a parent in politics, they are as slick as snot. I am thinking one in particular from Oklahoma. They make sure their offspring can profit off of what they have learned too.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
I don't get it...everybody talks smack about em but then when they show up everyone's on their best behavior. 😇
SW-User
@FloorGenAdm Not everyone. Sometimes they get eggs thrown at them. 🤭
Yes...there are some who are truly evil.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
My father once told me his own father said: never go into politics. That's how my own great grandfather got shot by the Nazis!
SW-User
@DeWayfarer Whoa. That sucks.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@SW-User he was a very strict man even for Czechoslovakian standards. Clan leader as well.
SW-User
@DeWayfarer Whoa shit!
Yes, that's why term limits are needed. Some go in thinking they can make changes for the better, but after a while their passion fails and they start looking for the money.
Graylight · 51-55, F
I don't think anyone's inherently evil.
Oberon1 · 61-69, M
@Graylight Okay! You're one of those..........😂✌️ I am an objectivist and you are a subjectivist! Surprise surprise! I am shocked right down to my toes!
I like fussing with you!
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Oberon1 Oh, but you're wrong. Subjectivism implies belief that knowledge is merely subjective and, as such, there's no external or objective truth.

I believe truths and natural laws are all around us and I fully believe that consequences lead to corrected behavior, reinforcing those objective laws and models. Man conceives penalty and judgment, so his God is punitive and judgmental. The Universe has no need of any of that.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I so agree!! People are so Judgmental which comes from social structure and self centeredness .

I think the field of politics itself is evil and that field brings out the evil already present within man. Politics - Poly (many) tics (blood sucking parasites).

I think, epigenetically speaking, the environment surrounding politics effects their genetics and enhances the corruption gene within them so to speak, and in some, creates a psychopathic gene or rather conditions them to become psychopaths. This would be called secondary psychopathy. Now, on the other hand, many politicians and government workers in the higher levels or upper echelons of power are primary psychopaths, as opposed to the lower level politicians who are mainly secondary psychopaths. Primary psychopathy is all nature - an inherent condition that you are born with, where the psychopathy stems from a genetic defect, whereas secondary psychopathy is all nurture - when you are programmed and conditioned by environmental pressures to become a psychopath.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
No, easily corrupted though.
They only worry about fund raising and the next election.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I think many narcissists and psychopaths are attracted to politics because of the power they gain, so in this respect, the answer is yes. However, there are some that are not. They may do good, or bad, at times, but just your general run of the mill people, but probably with the least power and influence.
Freeranger · M
Inherently self investing obviously.

To date we know of 54 who've been found active in insider trading. I'm sure there are more. They hold everyone in contempt but themselves.
@Freeranger congress passed a bill to exempt themselves from insider trading.. it’s totally appropriate to sit on appropriation committees. Having the inside run on who you are awarding billion dollar government contracts too. And be rewarded with stock options and shares in the company that just so coincidently wins the contracts.

Orange man bad
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
No but they are positions in higher power that an evil person would benefit from being in therefore I feel like they’re attracted to that field
SW-User
Bud Dwyer was not but he was in the minority. Look how he wound up. The Kennedys too. There's a message being sent there. A chilling message.
Seems like it. I think every politician who supports dangerous vaccines proves this
Elessar · 26-30, M
I think they simply reflect their electorate
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Opportunistic and self centered for sure .
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
No. I do think politics is ultimately corrupting and no one can remain in politics and maintain his/her integrity. A very honest person may go into politics but in short order will become corrupted.
luv2fly352 · 70-79, M
We are what we think about all day long and the ancestor to every action is a thought, so whenever you have the choice--and you always do--between being right or being kind, just choose kind.
SW-User
Yes some are just like some cops some judges some pastors ect just people and lots of us suck..
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
No but they are subjected to tremendous pressures and an abundance of temptation to do what is wrong
acpguy · C
Some do not start off that way but due to being bought off, blackmailed or bullied they turn out being evil.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
No all of them, there is a lot of variation.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I think some are changed by politics
babieseatcrap · 41-45, M
lived spells devil backwards
Cowboybob · M
Really more of a learned art
Mandyfgrstbhj · 70-79, F
Like all people some are. Not all
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Not inherently, but with someone like Colin Powell avoiding running for President due to the pressure it would put on his family, it occurred to me that virtuous people probably DON'T run for office.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I think very few are inherently evil. But a lot of them are ambitious. And ambition is a useful tool that other people can use against you to take advantage of or corrupt over time.
No. I’ve known several who sincerely began their careers with the plan to improve things.
SW-User
Sadly, it seems to be a career motivated predominately by ego building
