@GuidanceCounselor Or they will sell a little more to each of the other countries that buy from them. The US is the largest customer for many countries but for countries like China they are only about 15% of the country's export trade. So while it will be painful to lose that it is probably not enough to force China to capitulate.

@Steve42 Exactly.....since WW2, the USA has let the other countries rebuild itself with all of their tariffs and there hasn't been a president yet that stood up to anyone and said enough is enough. You made your money and built a great Europe......now lets even out the score and make the tariffs the same. THAT'S ALL IT IS..... as time goes on, the tariffs will adjust and prices will come down.
Just let our new president run the country like a business..that's what we need to get out of this massive debt we're in

When we stop shipping aluminium and we make 80% of the worlds supply - where in the hell are you going to get it and at what price.. You instantly need ten nuclear reactors to have enough electrical power to produce the amount of Aluminium we supply you now... It takes over a DECADE to build them...If you can finance them...and in that period of time with NO aluminium going to you your manufacturing sector is DECIMATED...You do not control Aluminium WE do... and if we stop to ship it.. you get none... not at a higher price - at no price... The only other place your west Texas refineries can get the same grade of heavy oil we provide now - is from Venezuela and the only country you have pissed off more than Canada happens to be Venezuela... The immediate impact on gasoline in the USA is $1.00 a gallon Canada has the fourth largest proven reserves of oil in the world.. the USA does not work very well without OUR oil... the biggest and most immediate threat to the USA is our massive surplus of electrical power... We shut off the switch and your hair goes on fire ... immediately... NYC grinds to a HALT .. and inside 72 hours people are killing one another to get something to eat...Let alone everything else that runs on OUR electrical power.. Our potash.. you can not grow squat without our potash... One season on the shelf you will find food prices flying though the roof as you need to import food to hold off starvation...

You may not know this but 91% of all goods purchased anywhere in the USA are made in China.

The reason it has been as cheap to live in the USA for the last 30 years as it has been, is because 91% of American jobs have moved to Asian countries where labor is cheap in comparison and Americans have been just fine with paying cheap prices for goods that were made with cheap labor rates compared to what Americans typically make, even as a minimum wage in the USA.

The reason poorly made North American cars cost so much to buy in the USA is because Trade Unions like the UAW have held GM, Ford and Stellantis hostage for 30 years, where unskilled, uneducated labor is being paid $40 an hour to screw nuts on a wheel on an assembly line.

You as an American, can't have it both ways IM5688.

At one time they actually did some good, like stopping child labor and 80 work weeks and getting employers to provide health benefits, but those days are gone and now unions do nothing but get higher wages for otherwise typical low paying jobs.

We have to remember that back in the late 1960's, then Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated because he tried to put a halt to Labor Unions in the USA. He attempted that bold action by going after the Teamsters Union in his noble but foolish attempt to disband that Union which represented American auto workers in Detroit.

What this means is, Unions are in place for a valid reason and America's higher than poverty standard of living is because of Trade Unions, not because of American ingenuity and world dominance in the manufacturing industry.

If you want an American to screw the nut onto your brand new car as it rolls along the American-made assembly line, then be prepared to put your money where your mouth is, otherwise start buying more affordable but imported Chinese cars and lay this issue of returning manufacturing jobs to the USA to rest once and for all.
