Are you buying American?

It doesn't matter what side of the aisle you are on, we should ALL be trying to buy American.

As a construction material contractor, I didn't realize how much of our material was made
overseas. Last week, after the Tariffs went into effect, the very next day manufacturers
levied Tarfiff surcharges on us. Most of them are between 25 - 35%.

We have told them all, OK, we will buy American. We have already opened new accounts
with manufacturers, and reactivated old accounts.

The sad thing is, I believe many on the left will NOT buy American, because they hate
Trump far more than they love this country.

I can't buy a battery for my Dewalt, hardware store will no longer stock Yankee products
@ShenaniganFoodie can you bring it in from amazon?
swirlie · F
@ShenaniganFoodie

The thing is, Dewalt power tools are not actually made in the USA, they are 'assembled' in the USA. The components that make up Dewalt power tools and their batteries, come from global sources which are then shipped to the USA where those components are then assembled, but are not actually manufactured in the US.

If you do cross-referencing to Korean, Chinese or Malaysian power tool companies, you will find a battery that will fit your Dewalt power tool, though it will not say 'Dewalt' on the battery itself.

@beermeplease Maybe but Government is about to put a 34% Tariff on all US Products.

I can buy a new Makita 18V drill cheaper with 3 year warranty
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@swirlie Problem being, it has made in the US printed on it. I can get an adaptor but it also made in the US
@ShenaniganFoodie i sometimes buy king canada product, but i think they are chinese made. i've bought 3/8 drills before and they actually stood up ok but it wasn't cordless...maybe there's a king australia place that distributes power tools

@ShenaniganFoodie
You can outsource a battery for that unit because not all Dewalt power tools are made in the USA, mainly because Dewalt is not an American company. Power tools are like automobiles, where there is no such thing as an "American" car, because there is actually no car that is 'Made in the USA'.

Many cars are assembled in the US from parts that are made all over the world, but no cars are made in the USA where the US manufactures all the parts for a car that the US assembles as well.

@beermeplease I can now buy Makita, Bosch & Ryobi much cheaper then DeWalt or Milwaukee.

Makita, Bosch & Ryobi have a 10% Discount & DeWalt or Milwaukee a 34% Tarrif

@ShenaniganFoodie
Wow! ...and it's only just begun!
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@swirlie I know BUT the government states Products Marked " Made in the USA " will have a 34% Tarrif.

The shop is not going to grind " Made in the USA " off, Even the adaptor for the Makita, Bosch & Ryobi battery to Dewalt has a 34% Tarrif
swirlie · F
@ShenaniganFoodie
That's why this whole tariff thing won't work, even with cars. There is no way of calculating how much tariff to charge on a car because it crosses the border into and out of the USA too many times during it's manufacturing journey.
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@swirlie Recently ( 2 weeks ) there has been a drop in prices $ 1,500 - $3,000 in all new Chinese car sales here.
swirlie · F
@ShenaniganFoodie
The good news about that is, Chinese EV's are considered the best money can buy in terms of long-range and value for the money.
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@swirlie EV are not for me.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@swirlie Can't buy a Chinese car in America...will never happen
swirlie · F
@Midlifemale
Buick, Lincoln, Volvo and Polestar are all made in China.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@ShenaniganFoodie dewalt batteries are made in china...
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@wildbill83 But marked " Made in the USA "
swirlie · F
@ShenaniganFoodie
No, they're not marked "Made in the USA", they're marked Made in China right on the purchase invoice.
