I believe in moderation. I do see some news, but not too much of it. Mainly because most of it is purely propaganda of some side.
Insightful1981 · 41-45, M
@SW-User completely agree with you on that
Ontheroad · M
Ignorant? No, but one does get out of touch with what is going on around them. To stay informed I take a look at a variety of outlets, both those I like and dislike. I view the news as an alert system, but I never take anything as gospel, so to speak. You have to vet what they are saying... any and all of them.

@Ontheroad great advice sir! Thank you!

What the people don’t understand is the news puts out what makes them money
The news is hyper focused on negativity because that’s what people want to tune in on and focus our brains are wired to be focus on the negative things because it’s our survival instinct

@DeluxedEdition this!
MethDozer · M
@DeluxedEdition The thing though is what is wrong is truly the only thing that is newsworthy. Things going right is what should be expected so in reality isn't worth mentioning or discussing.

I usually go to one of the 24/7 networks, turn off the sound and just read the scroll at the bottom of the screen. I am fully capable of making up my own mind as to how I should feel about things.
Buzzznut · 51-55, M
I'm shocked at the number of people who are incredibly misinformed. Granted, it is hard to stay informed, all news now must be taken in under a critical eye. But some of the problems we are seeing in the world stem from an ill-informed public.
it's a challenge, but just turning the news off isn't helping anyone

I'd say yes especially if you vote. If you don't pay attention to what's going on that would be willful ignorance but I understand needing a break as it's insane currently.
MethDozer · M
@Spunkylama not really. Personal experience is enough and in reality more pure and trustwortjy.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
No shit dude. It's almost like the news is trying to keep you sad, angry, scared and depressed or something, huh?
Let me know when you get to the wetness of water or the blueness of the sky. I eagerly await your findings.

I stopped following the news too closely a few years ago. Unfortunately, it's impossible to cut myself off from it entirely. There are so many things that make me feel even more hopeless and depressed than I was normally.
I'll read a few articles online, but I don't watch any news on TV. And you're right, I am way happier because just about all news today is negative.
TexChik · F
Your insight won’t change watching the MSM because you still won’t know what is really going on.
happypickle · 31-35, F
No, I rarely watch it on TV, but like reading the newspaper online every day.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
It's kind of the definition of ignorance to ignore the news.
Obscene stuff was loaded into everything politics for 2016-. Women definitely disengaged, libs went away, politics was purified for conservatives by porn. Bernie was drowned out.
It's not like people can stand to engage! You aren't supposed to.

It's a kind of bliss

I don’t believe so. There are very few news organizations here now that give straight information, rather than opinions based upon political agendas, on either side. I tend to use my local station, NPR and stations like Reuters and BBC to know what’s going on in the world.
Insightful1981 · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard good thinking 👍
Jinxie · 51-55, F
It’s not ignorant. I’ve stopped watching ‘ reading news on a daily basis.
I have alerts for major events.

Was it a government responsibility to fund independent news sources? Yeah. So we don't. We don't have government, really.
Did you hear that today that 96% of republicans voted against keeping contraception legal ?

I don’t watch news and am happy and healthy.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
i watch it on Youtube
empanadas · 31-35, M
I don't watch it as much since it's so negative. It's basically fear mongering to a certain degree
MethDozer · M
Nah not really.
