Nope. I've used Linux, Windows, and Apple. Apple costs more plus you get locked into their walled garden. Apple arguably has minor advantages; however they're totally outweighed by the cost and lock-in disadvantages.

Don't buy a Mac unless you're a professional and you need it. But if you have money to spare, why not, get a Mac.
Computers are just tools. Get the right tool for the job (should that job exist)
Don't just buy a computer because it's expensive or powerful.

Apple is the Devil.
I've been using Windows computers since I started using computers. Every job I've ever had used PCs with Windows. I've never had an Apple computer. It seems limited to me. I use some software that is not available for Apple. Also, the cost of Mac laptops. For my last two laptops, I paid $500 or less, and they both have an i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and a terabyte solid-state drive.

@WonderGirl The only thing keeping me in windows is the production software. I’ve been using Publisher, PowerPoint and Access since last century. Also VBA. Google Sheets is better than Excel imo, but I don’t like the idea of a cloud based system. Apple Numbers is prettier than Sheets and Excel :)
Fishy · 36-40, F
I always hated the fact that apple had apple exclusive hardware,
Whereas, with Windows, you can basically build your own PC from scratch, upgrade specific parts, basically have a Frankenstein machine,
The only reason I might even slightly consider an apple machine or iPad or whatever, is if there are apps that can't be obtained on a windows or android

@Fishy Yeah, when our older son was in high school and saw one of his friends playing on a gaming PC, he wanted one. He had saved up about $700, and we specced out a graphics card, motherboard, CPU, etc and got the parts from MicroCenter. Soon enough he had assembled a decent gaming rig and his other friends wanted to do the same.
He ended up showing several of his friends (and our younger son) how to put together a PC, and I acted as backup consultant to troubleshoot the tough problems. It was a great learning experience and a fun time!

@Gibbon unfortunately, MS never crossed Access, Money, VB to the Mac. Actually they abandoned or are in the process of abandoning all of the above themselves. As I recall, at some point, one of the best web page builders was their MS Publisher. Better than some of their web development products. Then they chopped off that feature from Publisher.

I don't mind what others think but it's my preferred. I use Windows based computer at work and it stinks. Lol
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I’d never purchase a non-Apple/Mac computer, tablet or phone. I’ve used their products for decades without issue, including viruses. They’re also very easy to use.
NerdyPotato · M
@Adogslife that's my experience with Windows, but then cheaper 😅
TrashCat · M
Ugh...i have had the discussion many times and often in great detail. My major issues with Apple is proprietary sw & hw, cost, and sw application availability.
joe438 · 61-69, M
The old ones were, no question. OSX is much easier to navigate than windows and it crashes less often. The new machines aren’t built as well though.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
After frequent issues with slow booting, constant hold-ups with updates, and generally poor performance, I screwed up my courage and after a lot of research bit the Apple. Obviously changing systems took a while to get used to, but now a convert and very happy with this MacBook which nivar macs a masteek.
@FreddieUK man newer macs don’t need to be charged as frequently, no fans. The thing is so good
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@mysteryespresso Good to know. 👍
DDonde · 31-35, M
No, but it's not significantly worse either. The biggest tradeoff IMO, beyond the price, is the ecosystem of applications that you have access to. There are still many applications in 2025 that need specific Mac or specific Windows versions.
Additionally, if you're talking about a desktop computer, with non-Mac computers (Windows or Linux) you can upgrade parts at a time, rather than needing to buy a new computer every time you want to upgrade.

Don’t know about the book, but my IMac on OS is 1000 times more stable than my windows computer.
@Heartlander yup. For some reason iOS feels way more stable and responsive than windows
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@mysteryespresso yea, the IMAC is plug and go, whether it’s a different printer or scanner or whatever. With Windows it’s plug and what the hell??
@Heartlander look for drivers, hit and trial, trouble shooting and still sometimes it won’t work.
On my pc it would list pending printing jobs and printer won’t print. I know a workaround- just restart the printer or reconnect to your pc.
Mac is more streamlined for workflow, pc is streamlined for cost saving

Apple products may look cool but paying more than double for a Windows or Android device doesn't make sense.
Money in the bank is a better status symbol.

If I tried running some of my pc CAD/modeling software on a laptop/mac book/etc., it would probably burst into flames trying to process/render...

Apple mac book, no,
but if you're into CGI, musical orchestration and such the high-end Macs are best Power Macs is what Pixar used

I use a Chromebook. I avoid both Apple and Microsoft.

@mysteryespresso I have had no issues at all, I am on my second one. My first one was damaged when it got dropped. They start up very quickly and just work right out of the box. No viruses no hard drive and very very fast web surfing. They don't have all the drivers for all the different additions you can have so getting a printer to work is sometimes a bit of a challenge. It can be done but not just plug and play.
@hippyjoe1955 on my first apple Mac, this thing works well so long as you don't care about money
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@mysteryespresso Yeah Apple was too expensive when I started using computers so I went PC. Then they got very expensive and the endless delays as they upgraded until - oops your machine doesn't support our latest upgrade so you have to buy a new machine because we won't support our old product. Chromebook upgrades all the time in the background and other than a restart every once in a while no big deal. BTW the restart only takes a few minutes unlike a PC.
sirweighsalot · 22-25, M
They're both inferior to linux
@sirweighsalot Linux isn’t easy to install and use
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@sirweighsalot I like how linux has supplanted apple in the "How do you know if someone is a mac user, just wait they'll tell you" joke.
Iwillwait · M
Truly not sure.
I prefer Windows because that's what I know.

Never any Apple products since 1986. That's anything!
And I have used mini mainframes of all types and built my own desktops.

No, but I see why people use them and recommend them to users with specific types of needs on a computer.

Mac book or any apple has class. If you don't have an apple, then you don't have an apple.

I just feel more creative when using an MacBookPro
DareToSayIT · 31-35, M
It depends on what you are doing with that laptop.
Raaii · 22-25, F
I've not used both so can't comment 🙆♀
I haven't been on a pc in ages
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
No. I've tried it and I didn't like it one bit. Just less user friendly across the board and way too expensive for what you get.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I have Microsoft laptop thank you!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I've never used an Apple product since the Apple ][+, and I don't think that I ever will. At some point, the Steves decided that it would be a good business model not to allow people to do their own computer repair. They claimed it was because Apple products were so superior that they never broke down, but anybody who's used any computer, no matter the quality, knows that's BS.
