Best American band ever?

I’ll go first- Talking Heads
StraCat · 41-45, M
Soundgarden. Each member is a master of their craft and they have made amazing albums. They challenged their own boundaries with different tunings and sounds throughout their time.

Ramrod · 46-50, M
@hunkalove They have so many good songs. :)
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
@hunkalove how can one go wrong there..The Beatles loved Brian and the boys
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@hunkalove I'm going to agree with you. Not because they rocked the hardest or anything like that, but they were tireless innovators throughout the 60s/70s and influenced tons of bands. I mean, I hear The Beach Boys as being a huge influence on punk via The Ramones. Brian Wilson had his hands full trying to catch The Beatles....and he almost did it.
AlittleBitGenX · 46-50, F
Pearl Jam
Fairydust · F
Hard one! I can’t decide….

Some of my favourites 🎶

Red hot chilli peppers

Foo fighters

My chemical romance

Blink 182

Ramrod · 46-50, M
I love Hibernation Live :)
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
Count Basie, or Duke Ellington.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@dancingtongue that’s big band. I think he’s talking rock band .
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@AthrillatheHunt I know, but I think the definition of band is more appropriately applied to the big band era than to rock groups.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@dancingtongue I see your point .
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
I'd have to go Eagles 🤘
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M

Someone said Hendrix and didn't post a song, this is one if my absolute favorites. Didn't see Van Halen or Prince mentioned, they too have been fantastic in their time.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
That’s really a very hard one to narrow down as there are NUMEROUS

Foo Fighters
Mammoth WVH is up and coming really fast
Van Halen
Eagles
Sooooooooo many more though
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
If it's about level of influence: Talking Heads, the Velvet Underground or the Pixies.

Id it's about the amount of quality music produced:

R.E.M.
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
A lot of classic bands listed that really can’t be touched. So I’ll go newer.

Linkin Park (not with the recent changes)
Chevelle
Breaking Benjamin
Adogslife · 61-69, M
The Doors
CCR
The Doobie Brothers
The Allman Brothers
Aerosmith
Steely Dan
The Beach Boys
Nirvana
Boston
The Grateful Dead
gregloa · 61-69, M
Obviously the Eagles. ACDC,Aerosmith, Georgie Strait had more number one hits than anyone.

slorollin · 41-45, M
@beermeplease You were in the thick of the grunge scene
@slorollin yeah...saw nirvana just before cobain died.
Ynotisay · M
Good question. In terms of influence I might say the Beach Boys or maybe The Doors.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M
And we can't forget The Band, even though most of them were Canadian
Ynotisay · M
@atlantic59 One of my top three all-time.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
Metallica, "creedence clearwater revival", "crosby, stills, Nash and Young", the doors
