I do not like when able-bodied people get things that I have to work for, for free

I try to be grateful for what I have, food, water, shelter.

I try to be grateful that I have remained employed throughout the pandemic.

But I can't help but think: I'd probably have more if I didn't work.

I.e free food- extra snap/food stamp benefits ( I do not & have not ever in life received them).

Free money ( child credit- $200-300 per child per month) just for having a child.

Unemployment and housing help.

Pretty sure these folks incomes is greater than mine, yet they don't even have to lift a finger.

Apparently I'm doing something wrong🤷‍♀️

Maybe meet some of the people and see what goes on in their lives that they need some assistance.
HannahSky · F
[@467302,iamnikki] like [@401815,KaliKali] said, give it back then
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@868864,HannahSky] yea, I get that, and I do know what people went through. Take care!
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
[@467302,iamnikki] or, you could donate the money to me 🥺🥺
artjk · 56-60, M
Yes, but many of those benefits will be going away soon. And then those people will be scrambling to get by. But you will be able to hold your head high, and know that through your sheer determination and will, that you have done what many were unable to do.
But, if you ever do find yourself on hard times, don't be ashamed to take advantage of that assistance, after all, it's your taxes that pay for it.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@1213058,artjk] yea but like I stated above, many are able to work. Many choose not to work because many can make more money off of handouts.
There are jobs. They may not be glamorous, but there are jobs.
artjk · 56-60, M
[@467302,iamnikki] And I'm not disputing that. I've seen the same here. That is prompted the reply I made to you. That's why I said you should hold your head high, knowing you stuck it out when things were at there worst.
But on the other hand, I don't consider the stimulus checks as a handout. For me, I see them more as a return on the half a century of taxes I've paid in.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
[@1213058,artjk] well there’s a lot more than that. They’ve stolen from us for the longest time since the Federal Reserve System got put into place removing our gold and silver backed system. We’ve paid layers of taxes to the point that we don’t have nearly as much buying power with our money due to whatever services and goods that we buy also being increased in prices due to the service people or goods sellers having to pay their share. Back in the 70’s I read the reason so many people were having to wait to buy a home was due to this and also the high interest rates on loans due to the Federal Reserve System’s printing money without any material backing for it.

Wait until you learn about inheritance.
Yep, you’ll hate my kids then when I pass because I’m working to make sure they’re moneyed up 💰💵💰💵[@401815,KaliKali]
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@686992,Annii] [@401815,KaliKali] I view inheritance differently. I want to set my future children up financially well. That way, they aren't reliant on government handouts.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
[@401815,KaliKali] 😅😅😅 this is why I fukin love you
ilakilak · 31-35, M
Sorry, supplied as part of my job

[@1208102,Barry] wth do you do for a living?!?
My rowboat will definitely say “Salty but Happy Tears” 🤣
ilakilak · 31-35, M
[@686992,Annii]
[@1208102,Barry] you’re killing me Barry
Try not to judge others lest you be judged.

I worked my side gigs while going through chemo in 2019, prior to the pandemic. I needed the money to make ends meet, and keep up my payments, one being life insurance. I told no one but my closest friends what I was going through.
a few carry the whole world

and they never get a thank you
Iamonfire666 · 31-35, F
You were very fortunate to work through the pandemic. Many people were not able to because their businesses were forced to close due to public health orders. Some people can’t work because they are immune compromised. Honestly you sound bitter because you couldn’t collect benefits and had to work.

That being said, poverty is a terrible cycle to get out of in regards to people who collect government aid. You wouldn’t want that life.

Did you want praise because you work? Most people do. Good for you.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@10165,Iamonfire666] I've already stated that this was geared towards able- bodied people. And no, I don't want praise, just stating my facts.
Iamonfire666 · 31-35, F
[@467302,iamnikki] able bodied people that are on social assistance, lots are struggling and would like to get out of it. It’s a cycle though.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@10165,Iamonfire666] right, if you're able-bodied, you shouldn't be on assistance. If you can work, then work. Work two jobs until you have 1 job which covers all your needs. Some do want to get out of poverty, some don't. Some receive lifetime handouts because they don't want to lift a finger. But I've said all I can. I'm done here. Have a good day
MotherHubbard · 56-60, F
Too bad. That mentality is overworking the people and killing the rest of the species. It averts peace for Everyone.
kodiac · 18-21, M
Agree💯
morrgin · F
[@16806,cherokeepatti] true but I'm thinking if I see a person buying a bunch of junk food with SNAP how do I come to the conclusion that they buy that type of food all the time unless I saw them each time they go shopping at the grocery store? Someone could have seen me buying junk food with SNAP and assumed thats what I buy all the time.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
[@668319,morrgin] This may receive some hostility but I've noticed lower income people buy more junk. First because it's cheaper than fresh food , secondly it's always the junk places like Walmart have on promotion
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
[@339269,JimboSaturn] I heard one woman say that fruits & vegetables were expensive but she’d spend $12-15 for sandwiches, chips & a huge soft drink and eat like that for lunch every day till she was broke. You could buy plenty of fruits & veggies and make some sandwiches at home to bring for lunch with that kind of money.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
You have pride.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@11509,Keepitsimple] is that bad? Looks like it from all the responses I'm getting.
(Able-bodied) People don't want to work for anything, so why should I have to?
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
[@467302,iamnikki] it’s not bad at all. I go on Facebook and everybody is on there trying to figure out how to stay out of work and get around the system. Society is lazy anymore.
MarkS · 51-55, M
It definitely breeds resentment when you have to work 5 hours a month to pay a cell phone bill that others get for free.
MarkS · 51-55, M
[@467302,iamnikki] I get nothing for free. That’s the reward for making good choices.
morrgin · F
[@970756,MarkS] good choices are a big part of it at least for me anyway. The big part being I wish I had made more of them.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@970756,MarkS] that's how I feel. Like what did I do "wrong"?
SweetMae · 61-69, F
You should be proud of the fact that you kept working. Some of the families that decided to stop working because they earned more sitting around needed that money to feed their children.
Crazywaterspring · 56-60, M
I've been homeless with a wife and six month old daughter. That was a long time ago. I didn't quality for any stimulus checks due to my income. I've been working through the pandemic and turned down lots of OT. Things happen. What really pisses me off is the number of billionaires and corporations that don't pay one cent in taxes.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@523909,Crazywaterspring] homelessness is temporary. If one is homeless, they do need assistance, I don't have a problem with that.y problem is with those who abuse things and make a career out of handouts.

Anyway, glad you are back on track and doing well
Nayla · 51-55, F
Yes it's not fair but I'm certain that those of us who work for it are more satisfied with our lives.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@506684,Nayla] I didn't even consider that POV, so thank you.🙂
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Some people need temporary help due to life crisis events but others are chronically playing the system to the hilt. I don’t mind people who need the temporary help getting it. It is frustrating to work hard all your life and be taxed to pay for those who are playing the system.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@16806,cherokeepatti] I agree with that whole statement.
DeluxedEdition · 22-25, F
tell them sis
4meAndyou · F
I, for one, am proud of ALL the people who would rather work than take hand outs from the government, and I am proud of YOU.

Having pride in YOURSELF, and taking nothing from anyone unless you can't walk anymore or something similar, is a great old fashioned value which needs to be revived, IMO.
4meAndyou · F
[@16806,cherokeepatti] Right you are!
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@387713,4meAndyou] thank you
4meAndyou · F
[@467302,iamnikki] 🤗💛🤗
kodiac · 18-21, M
I know people my age who say why the hell should i work i make more on unemployment and it just keeps coming.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
[@665475,kodiac] exactly
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
I used to think this way
DearAmbellina2113 · 36-40, F
I used to be mad about it too, but the system plays people every day, so if someone wants to play the system, I say go for it.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
[@831314,DearAmbellina2113] Yes thats how I look at it too I’m like you should be mad at the government for allowing this 😅
Entwistle · 51-55, M
The benefits they get go back into society do they not? They help keep businesses afloat don't they? I have no problem with people who claim welfare.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
[@589276,Entwistle] higher rate of raising criminal children who do illegal things to get cash
Entwistle · 51-55, M
[@16806,cherokeepatti] Okay but without welfare then they would be even poorer, leading to more crime?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
In a fair world this crap will end. There are women bringing innocent babies into the world in order to collect these benefits so they don’t have to go to work. Someone with that mentality is too lazy to put forth the effort to properly care for their children and they are raising children who most likely will continue on with this playing the system to get out of the home & away from their mother. I know a teacher who has witnessed this with his students, the girls start talking about planning on having a baby when they are 14 years old to get away from their mothers….if they have problems in class with their homework he will call up those mothers and get the cussing of his life.
Entwistle · 51-55, M
The real criminals and crooks are in positions of power. I'm not concerned with a small percentage of the population claiming what they are entitled to.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
It's about politicians buying vote with your taxes.

It's so outrageous that they have to borrow money to buy those votes, forcing your children and grandchildren to pay off the debt that they are creating to buy votes now. They have already squandered all the money we have put into social security and medicare over our working lifetime, and their remedy for those shortfalls were to raise retirement ages and reduce benefits.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Some genuinely need the help though. It keeps the economy running. The truth is when you are a hard working person you may sometimes feel punished
