ever tried sleeping pills or melatonin ?

If you have, do you recommend yes or no
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F Best Comment
Yes. I've tried everything from classic sleeping pills like Zoloft etc to strong prescribed sleep liquid. However I haven't tried melatonin.

But my boyfriend takes it every night. He can't sleep without it. It works great for him. No weird side effects the day after either.

It's what is naturally created in our bodies so melatonin can't possibly be bad for us (unless you eat 20 pills at once perhaps)

If you need it your body might not develop enough for you. So it's just an added vitamin in a way.

@Queendragonfly can't sleep without it? that doesn't sound good!
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@popmol No shit

Melatonin helps, but you can't take it every night or it loses effectiveness. It also gives you weird ass dreams.

I use a medical marijuana indica tincture. A dropper full under my tongue.

Most pills just make me drowsy and miserable in waking hours.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@AlchemyFox i found tinctures didnt put me to sleep just got me high af. Great for meditation tho
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
@GuyWithOpinions it depends if you're already sleepy.
Fairydust · F
No, I don’t like taking medication 💊
wackidywack · 22-25
@Fairydust that's fair. It's just been a few consecutive days for me. I'm done with it, I'm starting to get migraines in the day
Fairydust · F
@wackidywack

Try herbal or lavender…

Meds always have other side effects.

Our doctors don't really prescribe proper sleeping tablets anymore but phergan (promethazine) can be useful with assisting sleep. It's a drowsy antihistamine. It can also be used to treat nausea and travel sickness.
wackidywack · 22-25
@SW-User Antihistamineeee. Yeah I might head down to the pharmacy
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Yeah it works. You just build up a tolerance quickly so its not effective every time. I would take it for a week then stop for a week. Then try again. Or just take it when you need it rather than everyday
Yeah but I absolutely do not recommend unless the lack of sleep is causing something serious. Try magnesium glycinate, valerian root , chamomile tea.
JustAmber · 36-40, F
Melatonin will mess up your natural sleep cycle
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@JustAmber I highly doubt that as melatonin exists in our bodies to help the sleep cycle. Some just need extra.
JustAmber · 36-40, F
@Japrost your body will sense the higher/extra amount and make less. Andrew huberman has a great podcast about improving sleep.
SW-User
@JustAmber i may listen to it because ive been sleeping like shit lately
You can buy melatonin over the counter. Also Benadryl.
wackidywack · 22-25
@Spoiledbrat I know, have you tried it
akindheart · 61-69, F
i won't use prescription pills but i take slumber berries by Unisom. they work.
Fishy · F
I've tried restivit a while ago.

Can be really addictive if you're not careful,
You get a good sleep, but you will probably sleep way longer than intended and will probably doze the next day if you're sitting in the same position for too long or you might want to take naps
wackidywack · 22-25
@Fishy oh my, sounds a bit extreme 😅 but thanks for that heads up
Fishy · F
@wackidywack maybe I took too much lol,
The directions said to take 1-2.

I took 2 lol
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Only those herbal, vitamin ones. The last one I tried had melotonin 6x among over things. Your supposed to chew the tablets 30 minutes before bed and you'll have a restful sleep. Bullcrap. It'll help you fall asleep, sure. But if I woke for any reason after an hour or two, I could never go back to sleep.
25 mg if Trazodone calms my brain enough so I can fall asleep. I don’t really consider it a sleeping pill though. It doesn’t make me sleep.
wackidywack · 22-25
@Pinkstarburst it's an ssri but I'm glad you find it helpful
@wackidywack It’s completely different than an SSRI. But thanks. I hope you find relief.
wackidywack · 22-25
@Pinkstarburst it comes and goes I guess. I'm feeling well right now since it's a healthy-ish sleep week
melatonin has always worked for me. theres a medicinal herb that helps me as well, if none of those work, then i will either have sex, wank, or take nyquil. nyquil makes me feel weird the next day though.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Melatonin is awesome! Costco has the maximum strength. You’ll wake up feeling like you slept for 1000 years… you just make sure the room you sleep in is blacked out or you will wake up with headaches though!
leowander · M
Neither is recommended. I have found that tart cherry juice helps me sleep. Look it up on YouTube for the clinical studies.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
@leowander Is YouTube the standard place you go to read clinical studies?
leowander · M
@GlitterEater No. The studies were reported on YouTube and that's how I learned of them. You can find the videos with a search on YouTube for 'tart cherry juice'.
HannahSky · F
I don't recommend sleeping pills unless for jet lag or very short term. Melatonin has some benefits, but keep it to a low dose, like 1-2mg and again, short term.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I have used melatonin. It didn’t seem to help much with sleep. Have heard that it has some other valuable medical benefits though that would make it worth trying.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Got issued Amitriptyline recently for surgical site pain and as an aid to sleep.
Made no difference as far as I can tell
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I've used melatonin which is pleasant and nice. Sleeping pills can be pretty intense depending on what's prescribed.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
I rotate mostly OTC stuff. Advil PM (half a pill), CBD, melatonin, etc. That way I don’t build up resistance. Never all at once of course!
PatKirby · M
Seems 3-5mg of melatonin worked well for me. 5mg did make me feel a bit groggy but that goes away soon. Only for temporary use.
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
Melatonin makes me tearful the next day, it can make you feel very down.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
It depends...the only downside that it slowly ruin your kidneys.
wackidywack · 22-25
@FreestyleArt probably not having too much too often is the difference maker
I have been on sleeping pills. i used to wake up in a daze and still tired
Lilred2289 · 31-35, F
Melatonin helps me out. Sleeping pills scare me.
SW-User
@Lilred2289 melatonin fucked me up the last time i took it. I missed work and got my ass chewed out for it. Thats why it is strictly ZzzQuil for me
RedBaron · M
Diphenhydramine and Melatonin gummies every night.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I have tried melatonin. I am honestly not sure if it works or not.
popmol · 22-25, M
never only painkillers if i have headache or something
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
I use Melatonin. 1 mg

3 mg or more gives me a hangover
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
I've taken all kinds of pills to sleep.
Menetics · 26-30, F
I would recommend melatonin. Ask your doctor first.
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
Melatonin had no effect for me.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
I tried melatonin. I saw no benefit.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I have no problem sleeping.
Melatonin, zzzquil. Both work pretty well.
