Do you think there are any health benefits of turning into vegan or vegetarian?

Two of my close friends have become vegan and asking me to give up meat and fish 😏
BlueVeins · 22-25
Vegans live longer on average, but that doesn't mean you necessarily will live longer if you go vegan. Preservatives found in meat are pretty carcinogenic though, and more fiber won't kill ya.

In any case, meat consumption in the developed world is, on average awful for the planet and incredibly cruel. I will help you if you decide to go vegan, just DM me.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@BlueVeins I've limited my meat consumption and I feel much better. It's good for my health, the planet's health, my wallet's health, and saves some animals.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
I'll be polite, 'cos not everyone knows....

But vegetarians and vegans live longer and healthier lives...a lot of modern athletes are becoming either because of increased performance abilities.

So...yeah....It is a good thing! Been a veggie since the 80's....

😊
Docdon23 · M
@SammyJo Thank you. Agree. I have been vegan for 18 years and my doctors are shocked at my great blood tests and overall health and vitality. I get far more protein now than when I ate meat, and it is better for my heart.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I'm cutting back on my meat and I love it so far. I have a vegetarian cookbook and the food is amazing. I eat so much more variety and many more flavours now.
pdockal · 56-60, M
We were meant to eat meat !
pdockal · 56-60, M
@alan20 i have no idea what your taking about
alan20 · M
@pdockal My health has been good all my life, despite my vegetarianism. Does that make what I'm talking about any clearer?
pdockal · 56-60, M
@alan20
Nope
Healthy people die every day
MarsRedSky · 26-30, M
There are, but you can still eat unhealthy as a vegan. You should only do it if you want.

I’ve been vegan for almost 7 years, and I do feel healthier. But mine was more based on moral reasons than dietary.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@MarsRedSky True, I've known vegetarians that dislike vegetables :P They eat like muffins and potatoes lol
MarsRedSky · 26-30, M
@JimboSaturn Sugar and carbs don’t magically change when you eat vegan. Plenty to ruin your body with!
i doubt i will ever give up meat, and if i ever do, it will be my own choice and not because someone else decided to impose their morality on me. LOL

Years ago we were told to avoid heavily processed food. And now everyone is eating fake bacon grown in a vat.

Fads will come and go.

Absolutely--I became vegan 18 years ago, lost 51 pounds, and my blood tests at my doctors were so amazing he asked to borrow the book I first used to change...I am so healthy now, so full of energy and good health--but one must still eat healthy even if vegan. Chips and soda still are not good for you all the time!!!
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Docdon23
I lost weight
I'm healthy
Etc
Without changing to vegan/vegetarian
It's about self control and portion control and exercise
But to each their own
Plus I'm allergic to many vegetables
4meAndyou · F
Vegans and/or vegetarians usually lose a lot of weight, but it is sometimes difficult to find ready made foods that are vegan or vegetarian, and you might have to cook from scratch a lot more. You will definitely be limited if you have to eat in a restaurant.

Also, vegans and vegetarians have a hard time adding proteins in to their diets in sufficient amounts to maintain their health.
4meAndyou · F
@acpguy That sounds awesome! I like mild Indian food...nothing really hot. I don't know what southern Indian food is...but I like Chicken Korma and onion naan and anything mild.
acpguy · C
@4meAndyou We like the Southern Indian food which is very spicy not for Norwegians. We just finished some chicken Biryani.
4meAndyou · F
@acpguy Not for me, then...oh well!
Not necessarily. It depends on the other dietary changes you make, largely.

Nobody can argue that my 13-year-old vegetarianism was healthy. I was living entirely off Goldfish crackers, Morningstar Farms faux chicken nuggets, and Mountain Dew. But 17 years later and I’m usually able to eat pretty balanced.

I’m not purely vegetarian anymore though, for several reasons, but I mostly try to stick to it.

Veganism/vegetarianism also poses a challenge for those with eating disorders - it certainly made mine worse as I was more inclined to justify restrictive eating.
RileyLandS · 41-45, M
Studies have shown there are health benefits of being vegan or vegetarian. Add in great sleep, exercise, and mental health to maximize the benefits
acpguy · C
Not much but balance is good. Humans were and still are meat eaters and designed to be. Until we no longer have incisors then it might mean we should change. Just look at the difference in animals that eat primarily meat versus those that eat nothing but greens and you will see the vegans have crushing teeth only except the very from that are made for cutting off shoots. Primarily meat eaters have that and incisors like the fangs on dogs.

So go tell you snowflake tree hugging friends to go f themselves as it is not healthy.
HAHA no way especially NOT "vegans" 😂🤣

The products that YOU vegans and veggies are eat are not as healthy as you think

My sister in law became very severely anemic when she decided to become vegan and required an IV in hospital.
revenant · F
Nah..they look very unhealthy long term. Have you noticed the hollow eyes ?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Almost no benefits of being vegan but there are quite a few detrimental effects.
Rainandforest · 26-30, F
No. Humans supposed to eat meat and veggies
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Shallowaters · 36-40, M
Absolutely no doubts in that.
acpguy · C
@Shallowaters Bullshit.......................and that would probably be healthier than vegan as it is predigested making it easier for little liberals to eat.
alan20 · M
I've been a vegetarian since I was eight or nine. I'm not disclosing my age but I'm still alive and healthy. My decision had nothing to do with health. I just didn't like eating creatures that had once enjoyed being alive and had been slaughtered to fill my belly.
You can do it by stages, and find what works for you.

Stage 1 cut back on red meat. It's the food that's worst for the planet, and you weren't evolved for it to make up too much of your diet anyway.

Stage 2 cut out red meat.

Stage 3 cut back on chicken and fish

stage 4 cut back on dairy and eggs

stage 5 cut out chicken and fish

People on full vegan diets have trouble getting all the vitamins and minerals they need; so many of them develop weaker bones over time; some lose muscle strength. You CAN eat vegan and get enough vitamins and minerals, but it's not easy and the problems can take a while to emerge. A vegetarian diet, which includes dairy is much easier to do right. Adding eggs makes it easier still.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues That is why I am not going vegan, I eat a lot of eggs and drink milk (plus I love cheese).

Eating beans, lentils, quinoa gives you lots of protein. Plus I eat a lot of vegetables.

I do still eat meat but I really enjoy it more now.
originnone · 61-69, M
absolutely....depending on what you eat. Fish and poultry are pretty healthy as protein sources....
acpguy · C
@originnone I see you are mentally challenged
originnone · 61-69, M
@acpguy Why? Because I can use two sentences to say two different things?

You mean my retirement plan of eating doughnuts is healthy?! Should have stuck with the bacon and eggs.
Docdon23 · M
@Tastyfrzz There are unhealthy vegans! My son tried it for a while but ate chips and hummus and soad all the time...not a great plan!
alan20 · M
Probably. Personally I've been a vegetarian since age eight for aesthetic or squeamish reasons. The thought of eating what was a living and sentient animal just doesn't give me an appetite. Seeing poultry slaughtered was not pleasant!
I eat turkey sausage or ground turkey or chicken more often because it's better for your heart but I still eat beef once in a while.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
If aliens come to earth they wont probe you cause they'll just think you're one of them
dale74 · M
Well think of the poor animals you kill by eating their food
No, you miss out on necessary nutrients

I say just eat whatever makes you feel good - I don’t believe in categorised diets and labels 🏷️

Like for example veggies are full of fibre and if you feel your body needs fibre enjoy the veggies of your body needs iron enjoy the steak etc
