Indian film actor - Sushant Singh Rajput
I would say quite a few affected me. David Bowie, Robin Williams, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Freddy Mercury, so many. So tragic. They are all sadly missed and will never be forgotten. There's too many to list. I pray they're all in heaven. They do still deeply affect me.

JFK Jr and his wife Carolyn - I used to see them near my work a few times a week, even nodded hello - then read about them in the news...

@fun4us2b Truly, a tragedy.

Chester Bennington of Linkin Park was another.
I was attending a concert at a Hotel/Casino (Young the Giant) and in the elevator it was still showing the advertising of Linkin Park for the next weekend - meanwhile earlier in the week - he had passed....
Also, next day I met the guitarist from YTG in the elevator...

Elvis Presley. My mother asked me if I wanted to go with her to see Elvis. She didn't want to go alone. I never saw Elvis in person, so I said yes.
I'm pretty sure it was at Madison Square Garden. Then, right before the concert, he died. So close. 🥹

Shocked? Maybe Anthony Bourdain, because the standard viewer never saw it coming
Articulate, introspective, and in touch with his humanity; there was a certain vulnerability that made him likeable and easy to relate to.

Shock is a too strong word but I remember that when I was a kid there used to be Aaliyah's music videos on tv channels a lot so I knew such singer existed but didn't pay much attention to her and then I heard she died in a plane crash. I wasn't aware of the concept of celebrities using private jets yet so I imagined a big commercial plane and was like..." whoa, how often do you hear that there's a famous person on the board of the plane that crashed."😅 It was only many years later that I learned how it really was.

For me, it'll be either Robin Williams or Prince. Both masters of their art. Both unique.
My dad cried at David Bowie's death. That was sad and shocking.

Tom Petty. And from an overdose? I had no idea. I never associated him with drugs.

@WonderGirl Agreed - such a shame

Donny Hathaway. I'm still in denial. He had such a beautiful voice and to take his own life was just incomprehensible to me.
Robin Williams

@OlderSometimesWiser I saw RW in this play - and he was so very different from the comedian we all knew - I even had dreams about it...he took his life a short 3 years later

@fun4us2b That’s really something. Think I related to his Good Will Hunting role the most, that underlying sadness just beneath the surface. But maybe that’s because he’s gone now and we know just a bit more about what he was facing.

@OlderSometimesWiser Very true.

JFK. So popular, so young, so unexpected. Of course it being my first day deployed in Europe, issued winter combat gear and a weapon I wasn't trained on, and told where to pick up the live ammo as our tanks on the East German & Czech borders turned towards Moscow and hunkered down awaiting orders added to the shock.

There was a tv show I liked when I was in Jr. High called Alias Smith and Jones. I had a crush on one of the two leads, an actor named Pete Duel. About midway the first and only season and the day before my birthday, he committed suicide.

Clearly JFK. I will forever remember exactly where i was and what i was doing when i found out.

JFK's assassination. I was only 13 years old and home watching watching TV when the news broke. At that age I wasn't really prepared for something like that to happen.
Orca4950 · 70-79, M
@ChipmunkErnie wrll said. I was just leaving school when it was announced. I was the same age. Only been in the states for 2 years. Definately a shock.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Orca4950 My high school was on split sessions, so I was home for the afternoon, watching TV when the live coverage broke in.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Elvis. I wasn't expecting it. He was only 42.
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
JFK for sure. I was in algebra class and another teacher came in and informed the class. It didn't fully set in until I got home and turned on the tv after school. In those days the news just wasn't on outside of their regular slots unless it was really serious.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M

I came for his monologue, and stayed for the film.
He was the reason I subscribed.
His approach and dedication to the cinematic arts bordered on the reverent.
A consumate host and quiet gentleman, who made TCM an event, and household name.
