Most human beings aren’t intelligent enough to think past tribalism.
Trump gets shot, Republicans blame the Democratic Party. Because that’s what the right wing media has taught them to do.
No nuance or opinions of substance. Just tribalism.
Give into your tribalism and support Trump at all cost.
The truth is we’re all human beings and we all want what’s best for our country. We just disagree on how to get there. But to carry yourself with that level of tact; takes a worldly perspective and emotional maturity.
Which again, most people don’t have.

@QueenOfZaun There's a certain amount of irony in speaking of Donald Trump and a lack of public nuance, in the same breath.

I agree....there’s no reason to approve of violence against someone just because you have a different point of view,
Anyone who tries to assassinate someone because of issues they have with them is sick....and anyone who supports this kind of violence is sick.
I will never support former President Trump because of some of his actions after the 2020 elections, but I condemn this violence against him, and I’m relieved that he is OK (but am saddened by the loss of the life of at least one of the attendees).

@BlueGreenGrey 'What if?' is always interesting to speculate; but I believe the Allies were surprised that Germany was NOT (as they feared) seriously trying to develop an atom bomb in the late 30s and early forties.
ffony · M
@BlueGreenGrey Most of the people - like Chamberlain - who were genuinely trying to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, did not know how utterly deceitful and violent Hitler would be. They did not have that foreknowledge - or the benefit of our hindsight.
I wouldn't advocate assassinating anyone on the fear/suspicion that they might turn out to behave in an evil way.
There is no such thing as knowing 'what would have happened if ....' because it didn't.

I wish he weren’t running for president, and I believe he will destroy our country, if he gets the opportunity.
I still remember the jokes his supporters made when a cowardly Trump supporter attacked the Speaker’s 82 year old husband recently. He’d done nothing to anyone, just happened to be her husband.
I’m not much concerned about being the "better person" anymore.
Trump once commented that maybe the "second Amendment people" would deal with Hillary.
And on more than one occasion he has actively tried to incite his supporters to harm others.
I’d be a hypocrite to pretend to feel bad if he were to get even a little of that karma back. 😞

I absolutely despise the man, and I in no way condone it either. I felt genuine relief when I heard he wasn't at all seriously injured.
Then...ever since, I've been thinking about how much Trump must be loving this. The outpouring of sympathy and support from all 'sides', from world leaders, from the current president he demeans and demonizes. It's just what he has always sought...craved, this attention, and for years now, to be seen as the poor persecuted victim.

@Piper @NativePortlander1970 I can't see the video here either
@DrWatson Click on the link that says watch on youtube.

@NativePortlander1970 Sorry, but as is often the case on SW, when I do that I get a page which tells me YouTube is blocked.
Quirky things happen on the internet. And those of us for whom the link does not work are not "lying."

I agree. While I despise the man, this shooting, any shooting, is insane.

@Aami1 wasn't he the one who said he could walk do we n foth avenue and kill somebody and get away with it? Didn't SCOTUS seem to agree that POTUS could order sealteam to eliminate POTUS's enemies and be immune? The rhetoric must cool down.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Aami1 Anyone that we know of, at least.

@bijouxbroussard just shows how messed up society continues to be..
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
I agree. One of the focal points of this election is preserving democratic principles. Killing your political opponent is antithetical to the values America was founded on.
Even though I find Trump as odious as they come, this isn't how you handle disagreements. I'm sure Trump's family is grateful that he's alive

Have you considered the possibility that he and his team orchestrated it to make him a sympathetic character?

@samueltyler2 Education cures ignorance , you could use some. The second amendment is not about hunting rights it's about restricting the government from passing any laws or regulations from keeping the citizens from owning and possessing firearms.
That's a ridiculous and useless point of not having modern types of weapons beck then.
That's why it is worded the way it is .
A well regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free state. ( Militia being a group of armed citizens) Necessary.for the security of a free state( weapons capable of defending against a standing army of the day) The right of the people to ( the people have that right , not the militia) to keep and bear arms.( The people have that right to KEEP and BEAR ARMS clearly stated , not the militia) Shall not be infringed ( the government has no right to limit or control those weapons.
Does that clarify the situation for you. It could not be any clearer in its meaning of who has the rights. And what the citizens have the right to posses. ( Weapons capable of securing a free state) This modern weapons with high capacity mags. You just schooled.

@goodlil666 also gun laws are noticably different in New York compared to Florida or Massachusetts compared to Virginia. Therefore is it really a national standard?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@goodlil666 so you are in favor of a 5 year old owning a gun?

i absolutely despise trump. have since i first learned of his existence wayy back in the day. There was just always something about him that didn't settle well with me. i truly thought the support he was getting back when he first started running for office was people being trolls. Then, he got elected. I was surprised, but I thought to myself, 'eh, we'll see how it goes. maybe i'm wrong about him'. as time went on, i despised him more and more.
Even I find it deplorable that the shots were fired.

What happened to him isnt nearly as bad as who was behind him
Rokan · 31-35, M
@NativePortlander1970 afraid of what? You can't even identify the bullet used and you want to talk about entry and exit wounds. There is a huge difference in every caliber and type of bullet. Was it even hollow point? You sound really uneducated in the subject while trying to pass off as someone with experience.

@NativePortlander1970 so you have no argument about being able to identify blood splater and entry or exit wounds. You throw insults because you have no substance. You claim to be an expert and say nonsense because very few people have the credentials to be an actual expert in this stuff and thanks to hollywood movies you are able to go unchallenged because of all the misconceptions around firearms and combat. You tried it with me and it didnt work so now its throw insults. You are no different than any other lier your own cognitive dissonance won't allow you to change.

It was staged to garner views and sympathy. No one tried to kill him. Hes vying for views.

@latinbutterfly the objective was to make trump look like a hero
jehova · 31-35, M
@latinbutterfly a bit too timely and not at all a life threatening wound.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I totally agree, but I do have to wonder why the 22 year old had what has been described as an "AR-style" weapon?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@goodlil666 oh, have you? What makes you a very institutional scholar? So you believe a "citizen" at any age, should be allowed to own a weapon?
goodlil666 · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 Your a joke.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@goodlil666 again, insults don't bother me! Tell me what you think about your own statement!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
if there was really such a shooter! this is going to be like the texas book repository and JFK.

Admittedly, no one deserves to be murdered, not even Trump.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@SW-User no, but someone will probably go to the extreme anyway

bijouxbroussard · F
@empanadas Some things are a question of right or wrong. The irony is, it’s the "Law & Order" crowd who seem to have lost sight of the fact.
