Cancer. It’s killed two of my grandparents (before I was born, but still), a couple of my parents’ closest friends, a close friend of my sister’s and the one uncle I had. There was a real scare that my mom might’ve had it a few years back too. Thankfully, she didn’t, but that’s how much I fear it. My whole family.

Cancer is of course a horror show but I think even more than that is Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Your body deteriorates to the point of almost complete physical immobility while your brain function remains intact so you know exactly what’s going on.

Different forms of Alzheimer's. If you can't think for yourself, you really can't do anything for yourself. It's just not there.
