Do you hate being a southerner because of slavery? I do, that's why I hide my southern accent from others

specman · 51-55, M
@Peaceandnamaste You did watch it!

Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@Slade in the video he's showing graffiti and blaming Alabamian skaters for it.

Why lie about watching it ?
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@BohemianBoo I apologize for being Alabamian, I'm sorry.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@BohemianBoo I'm sorry that I'm Alabamian.

Dumbest post of the day.
Slade · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste so leave. Nobody will want or try to stop you
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@Slade is that guy right that we destroyed Baltimore?
Slade · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste no interest in watching. And Baltimore aint in Alabama. Anyone tell you that?

Slavery was a global phenomenon, your whole account is dedicated to having a victim mentality
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@SW-User People
Make such a big about USA slavery. Brazil took 7 times as many slaves as the US. They have similar social problems to the USA today but because the former slaves are the majority it is less of a problem.

One of the biggest issues today is misplaced accountability. You're not responsible or accountable for the sins of others. Ever.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@BizSuitStacy this guy makes me hate being Alabamian

Slade · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste if that is true than 90% of the Alabamians who relocated to Baltimore would have been black since Baltimore is about 70% black.

Now do you still want to support him
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@Slade in the video he's showing graffiti and blaming Alabamian skaters for it.
WillaKissing · 56-60
Oh, for Christ's sake that ended 160 years ago, can't we just let go of it already.

Besides you had no control of where you were born or raised in the world, If you were in the Middle East slavery still goes on, and China does not treat its populace much better.

I am concerned about the sex slave industry and how that has blossomed around the world.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Peaceandnamaste Funny, but what a goof, LOL.
Slade · 56-60, M
@WillaKissing ended 160 years ago. Proclamation was signed 1863
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Slade I will edit that, thank you.
remember kiddies. slavery was born and dies in the united states.
in now way were black ppl selling other black ppl as slaves for thousands of years.
and ignore the fact of modern day slavery...

-Big Brother ✊
@GlitterEater blah blah blah…
Racism and slavery only ever exist in america.. bang that drum to the day you die…
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You saying that like anyone actually believes it is the disgusting part. You are attacking a strawman, and you're gross.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Is this guy right?
He makes me hate being Alabamian

But.. the whole world and more did it, just because the northerners "stopped" it first and the southerners technically went to war over the fact (thank the cotton gin for that one), its still a part of the entire us history not just a portion.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Slavery has been around for thousands of years. It was common in ancient times. None of us in this generation have anything to do with it because slavery was abolished before our time.
@GuyWithOpinions The United States, unlike other parts of the world, brags about being founded on tenets of freedom. And that’s supposedly what the woman with the lamp represents. Our own national anthem (written by a slaveowner, incidentally), claims to be about "the land of the free and the home of the brave".

So whatever may’ve happened in other lands or in ancient times, ethically it should never have happened here.
And like it or not, we’re still experiencing the fallout from that legacy. 🤔
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I think we need to teach more about Southern abolitionists to give people from the south positive figures to relate to. There may have been less of them, and it was actually dangerous to express such ideals, but that actually made it more brave and bold for them to do so. Cassius Clay of Kentucky had an antislavery publication he had to move north to Ohio due to various threats. Angelina Grimke was born to wealth in South Carolina and became both an abolitionist and a feminist. In 1827, there were 106 anti-slavery societies in the South, with an estimated 6625 members.

That bravery to embrace what is morally right when in the minority of your contemporaries is the real spirit of rebellion that should be celebrated.

The path to pride in heritage is not to defend the wrongs of the past, but to identify with the heroes that dared to go against the grain.
Ducky · 31-35, F
Ugh, I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how difficult it just be for you. 😞
Slade · 56-60, M
@Ducky 🙄
Ducky · 31-35, F
@Slade I have nothing to say to you
Slade · 56-60, M
@Ducky you have nothing to say period
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Are you ashamed of being human because of human atrocities through history? Do you hide being human?

Are you embarrassed to be from planet Earth because of how brutal life on Earth can be? Do you pretend to be an alien?

Are you disgusted to be on online poster because how disgusting online posters can be? Do you deny you post online?
missyann · 56-60
Don’t hide your southern identity. I love the south.. did you ever support slavery in the klan? I never dead, and never would..
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Slavery wasn't just a southern sin. The entire nation was guilty of it.
Your accent is about where you are from, but it does not represent your politics or your beliefs

I think the southern accent is lovely
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@InOtterWords I'm from Northern Alabama in the Appalachia
@Peaceandnamaste mountains?
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
I'm not a southerner, I'm a northerner. I don't like slavery.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Slavery was around long before america existed
I can understand that.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart hate being southern, I wish I was born somewhere else.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Wow I didn’t realize you’re from the South, use your accent and be proud it has nothing to do with slavery.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
I think we need to bring Sherman back from the dead and teach those red necks again right from wrong.
HannahSky · F
Why don't you like the south now? You weren't around during slavery but it certainly has history there.
Slade · 56-60, M
No, no, no a million times no.

I ♥️ slavery
Wow.....a guilt trip.....about history. :-)
MrGoodVibes · 36-40, M

New York didn't fully free slaves until 1827 and at one stage 40% of households owned slaves (compared to I think 8% of people in the South at the time of the civil war)
Well that and just general redneck / conservative / religious / all other negative associations with the US south

There is nothing positive or interesting about being southern, even when I hear a strong southern accent it makes my skin crawl
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@BlueGreenGrey Move north..problem solved, dumbass.

@Peaceandnamaste I don't mind so much the fact that I am southern because it was something out of my control and I can still control how I am, but certainly, it would've been nice to have either been born in the northeast, the west coast, or even a different country
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
Nothing more annoying than white guilt.
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@Peaceandnamaste let me guess. Cherokee?
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@SamInAZ yes
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@Peaceandnamaste so you are white. Lol
