Do you hate being a southerner because of slavery? I do, that's why I hide my southern accent from others

Slavery has been around for thousands of years. It was common in ancient times. None of us in this generation have anything to do with it because slavery was abolished before our time.
@GuyWithOpinions The United States, unlike other parts of the world, brags about being founded on tenets of [b]freedom[/b]. And that’s supposedly what the woman with the lamp represents. Our own national anthem (written by a [b]slaveowner[/b], incidentally), claims to be about "the land of the free and the home of the brave".

So whatever may’ve happened in other lands or in ancient times, ethically it should never have happened [b]here[/b].
And like it or not, we’re still experiencing the fallout from that legacy. 🤔
