Is Santa Claus Black, White or Brown skin?

It a debate I just heard on local talk radio this morning and I wonder what you members of SW think

Update:

Santa, is a skinny midget Asian woman with buck teeth
BizSuitStacy · M Best Comment
Santa is simply the embodiment of the Christmas spirit. When we gather with family & friends to share in the holiday, we all become Santa. So, it's all colors.
being · 36-40, F
@BizSuitStacy I knew I too was Santa 😁😁
justanothername · 51-55, M
@BizSuitStacy Actually Coca Cola gave us the modern Santa in one of their marketing campaigns.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy I may disagree with your politics, but I absolutely 100% agree with you here 😊

Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
He’s Odin. Nordic/Germanic
IndophileIndian · 31-35, M
@Ceinwyn Is there any chance that you are a pagan?
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@IndophileIndian Just a tad.

I have to say it's interesting that this is something people are talking about, since as a kid I never saw Santa (who was not a thing in my family btw) portrayed as anything but white. If people are imagining him otherwise today that is wonderful.
SW-User
@SW-User Yes, maybe the next step is to recognise and be grateful for each and every gift we receive each day from others, yet can take for granted.
That's just because it was a white people thing. @SW-User
SW-User
@Spoiledbrat It was already popular way beyond white people when I was a kid.
Greyjedi · M
Saint Nicholas was from Turkey 🇹🇷 so he had arbic complection.
SW-User
@Greyjedi Oh! I thought it was just the soot from the chimney.
Greyjedi · M
@LordShadowfire wrong he was a rich Arbic Turkish gentleman who did more for relationships that Saint Valentine.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Greyjedi Honestly, to me, his generosity is more important. He made toys for children, as we all know, but he also helped prostitutes pay off their pimps so that they could be free. Once, when a merchant was about to go out of business, he secretly threw a bag of gold through his shop window and saved the company. If anybody deserves to be turned into the spirit of Christmas, it's Nicholas.
I don't care much either way... he's a mythical character.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@ThickMadame It's just the same with Jesus... they change his skin colour to match the majority skin colour in a given country - and people still get to screaming "Jesus wasn't white/Jamaican/Japanese".

Whatever - we don't have scientific proof that there was a Jesus... so why does the colour of his skin even matter so much???
Neoerectus · M
SPIRIT of Santa has no limits. Actual St Nicholas was eastern Orthodox.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@Neoerectus
Thank You
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
He's make believe he can be whatever makes a little kid happy.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F

The color of water, just like God.

Santa is a myth. He is any skin tone that a child imagines him to be.

The end.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@JaggedLittlePill

Great Answer
If we find out what skin color was Saint Nicholas, the one from whom they were inspired when they created Santa, we can probably deduce the skin color of Santa Claus, but even if we do, is not like it matters.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@AdielTandri
Thank You
IM5688 · 61-69, M
Well, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers, since Christmas/Santa Claus/St.Nick was formulated out of Roman pagan holidays, I would think he would be Roman/Italian.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@IM5688
Thank You
SW-User
Easiest to imagine Santa whatever way you want. The fact that this was a debate on radio shows that there was bugger all else happening in the news that day. What a waste of time

That’s like asking what color is Jesus…everyone has their own ideas and both are nothing more than imagination

Thank You {Just your opinion on Santa}
Northwest · M
It depends on where you're shopping. It's kind of like the color of Jesus.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
Thanks @Northwest
Straylight · 31-35, F
Is Santa an elf? Am I remembering that correctly? 🤔
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@Straylight My older brother told me he was from walking reindeer droppings when i was a kid. He made me cry
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Straylight Clement Clark Moore described him as an elf in "A Visit From St. Nicholas," aka "The Night Before Christmas". He's also the first author to describe him as "chubby and plump".
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@LordShadowfire Did not know that
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I'm guessing brownish because the original Saint Nicholas was born in what is today Turkey.
He's wherever you want,he's magic ✨

carpediem · 61-69, M
Does it matter?
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ThickMadame Some people like to stir up controversy. The color of someone's skin, or their religious beliefs shouldn't matter in the slightest. Yet, here we are. Society is a mess.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@carpediem

Your over thinking this question.

Let it go
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ThickMadame No...just shaking my head over a question about the race of a fictional character. Maybe I'm not the one over thinking. 🤦🏻‍♂️
TexChik · F
Santa's race is in the eye of the beholder. What he stands for is universal.
All of the above since he's imaginary. 🎅🏻🎅🏽🎅🎅🏼🎅🏾🎅🏿

All, or none, of the above.
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@samueltyler2

justanothername · 51-55, M
White skin. He was Nordic. You can visit the home of Santa up in Lapland in the top of Finland.

Coca Cola gave us the old guy with white beard and red suit in one of their earlier marketing campaigns. It worked so well that the concept of Santa as a jolly old guy in a red suit stuck with us and has been that way ever since.
SW-User
Depends which grotto you visit.

😀
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@SW-User
Thank You
He's white. It shouldn't be controversial to say that a fictional character is portrayed as white, the same way he's portrayed as being fat with a beard.

@Greyjedi No, he was a bit "borwn" I guess, but he wasn't Arabic, he was of Greek Descent, aka Nicholas of Smyrna or Nichaolas of Bari and was a Bishop in Turkey -- and if you want to get some people angry, tell a Turk he's an Arab.
Greyjedi · M
@ChipmunkErnie are you a Turk do you from personal experience?
plot twist. he's a muslim...

@SandWitch Wrong continent? Just wondering...
pride49 · 31-35, M
He's purple
SW-User
@pride49 Are you sure that was not just the glare of the disco lights in the grotto? I was once fooled, thinking Santa had the measles - big red spots!
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
Hey @pride49 and @SW-User what if he is red and yellow plaid
pride49 · 31-35, M
@ThickMadame Ronald McDonalds bastard son
He breaks into houses and says Hoe, Hoe, Hoe
SW-User
He’s red with horns.

Satan. Santa. It’s the same letters. It’s the same frickin guy!
Santa is not real so it does not matter what colour he is
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Imagine Demis Roussos. There you go.
SW-User
@basilfawlty89 I'd rather not.

😀
ThickMadame · 51-55, F
@basilfawlty89
I don't know who that is
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
St. Nicholas, on whom the Santa Claus myth is partly based, was a Turkish bishop. However, Odin, whose character traits have been appropriated and added to Santa, is a white Nordic god. So I guess he's mixed race?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@basilfawlty89 I finally got motivated this morning to look up the whole story, and I found this fascinating National Geographic article. It's going to demand an email address, but if you're like me, you've got a spam catcher address you can give them. It costs nothing.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/131219-santa-claus-origin-history-christmas-facts-st-nicholas
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire thanks, I'll definitely give it a read.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@basilfawlty89 The short version is he was a Mediterranean looking gentleman, as you've suggested.

They just aired this episode on that MeTV network. I remember this episode even as a kid
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@ThickMadame So do I. I loved the series.....nothing like the sitcoms that Norman Lear created back then. They would be politically incorrect today.

BROWN - Bearing in mind the main concept of Santa giving presents stems from a Christian Bishop in Turkey
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Y thank u ... very boring response, factual rather than homely
It's a bunch of bullshit is what it is, most people don't give flying fucks one way or another, it's the racists in each catefory that make it a big deal.
