What's an informal term to describe a female which isn't regarded as condescending/sexist?

For example, "chick", " babe", "broad", all seem to have negative connotations. But " dude", "guy" etc seem okay.

What say ye?

@SW-User Don't anticipate men, who are called men, to understand this

@NiftyWhite yeah I meant colloquial. Stumped me
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@Jm31xxx well when you have a stag and doe she’s compared to a female deer but she isn’t really called a doe any other time. you’re right, every slang term is derogatory.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
Gal! My mom used to say “she’s such a nice gal....”
I think it matters way more if you know the person. There are people I know that say all of the female terms above and they know me well, so it’s cool. Someone I don’t is likely to get their teeth kicked in. Those are names of familiarity and you better be familiar.
@DarkHeaven Otherwise it’s better to use my name.

Their first name...?
@SW-User I’m a crazy bish. 🖤 And you’re mine not the other way around. *giggles*

@DarkHeaven Okay...😏
@SW-User Mwah 💋
Strangely, I think "guys" works for females as well?

Other than that, I would tread carefully. I friend of mine referred to his workers as "ladies" and got an ear full.
@Salix75 Still as a title, it’s pretty polite if being used incorrectly.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
@DarkHeaven agreed. I'd much rather it be used than about 99% of the other terms men (or should I call them males? boys? lol!) use for women :D

funny incident I once had at a work cafeteria some years ago - myself and a co-worker (a man) were both going to grab a muffin. He pulled his hand back and said "Ladies first". I replied with a chuckle "Ohhh I'm no lady", and his response was "A gentleman always presumes [that a woman is a lady]".

I thought this was such a PERFECT awesome response!! :D
@Salix75 Well said. Polite & cute.
I like all those terms you said! Also, Girl, Woman, Angel, Sweets, Darling and Love! they are very nice and it is with regret that they disappear from the English language because of pontificating, bombastic women!! They represnt a good and strong sense of masculinity in their delivering!
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
@EugenieLaBorgia "pontificating, bombastic women". Your turn of phrase there made me laugh. But I could never use any of those words you like
@Jm31xxx We have our names for women in France, too: Nana, Copine, Gonzesse, Meuf,Loulotte and many more!!
Miram · 31-35, F
I don't mind being called babe as long as it's my partner.
Broad? Never heard of that.
Dudette, sis is nice, woman , person..pal? Since I was called pal I believe it can be for women 🤷
Miram · 31-35, F
@DarkHeaven we are friends 😘 we needn't worry about such things
@Miram I love you sweetie.
🖤🤗😘💋
@Jm31xxx See. Familiarity. ✌️
texasdaddydom · 51-55, M
dude and bruh have been made genderless in casual speech
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@DarkHeaven ya ok troll. BLOCKED.
@NiftyWhite Fuck off dumbfuck.
@NiftyWhite You don’t get to tell other people what they think. That doesn’t make me a troll you stupid bitch.
Belladonna · 41-45, F
"Guy" and "dude" are fine by me. I get annoyed sometimes that everyone seems to be so obsessed with differentiating sexes and/or genders. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Belladonna Fair point. Gender doesn’t need to enter in unless we are trying to hook up.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
i think she gets more colloquial names after marriage. Where’s the missus? your better half? your lovely bride? etc.
@NiftyWhite It’s the familiarity.
SW-User
Calling a woman "dude" is just as sexist as saying "chick" if ya ask me. (and I don't think it's sexist to begin with)
Salix75 · 46-50, F
even "female" is sexist. We are women. Female could refer to ANY species
Call her by her name
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
@Underconstruction might not know it though. Also, even if I do, that might be a bit too familiar
@Jm31xxx You ask. Or say Miss or Mam.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
the lady ?
@rckt148 Also tone matters a lot. You can tell when it’s said insincere or not. Dear is awfully familiar term to use on someone you’re not familiar with but culture does make a difference quite a bit.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@DarkHeaven Yes Mam , as I said I have a souther accent ,raised a gentlemen
and I have no clue what it is ,they say its my spirit ,
but back men ,who have a hard look ,they see me they nod or they speak
always ,and most people have asked me "did you know him "? no never seen him before in my life .
he was acting all hard to everyone else and you walk up and he speaks to you
what gives ? I have no clue ,its been that way my whole life

Ladies know I mean them no disrespect
Black men and woman know I am not prejudice
and punks know I am not the one to play with

I have no clue what it is ,but I am thankful it works that way
@rckt148 If it works it works and I would bet if a lady took offense you would drop the word and never use it to her again as you sound like a true southern gentleman. ✌️

Trevo · 26-30, M
Gurl isn't sexist lol
Salix75 · 46-50, F
@Trevo but still inappropriate. A grown woman is a woman.. not a girl. it infantalizes her and reduces her status to that of a child. same as when call women "baby / babe"
