What were your childhood aspirations and dreams? Can you even remember, or were they even then perceived as something approaching unaccomplishable.

I wnated to be a scientist or engineer, although I was never sure in what discipline.

I was inspired by my Dad, a Chartered Electrical Engineer working in that field as a civil-servce scientist, and by an Uncle I did not see often (by geographical distance) but I knew worked in British Railway's R&D laboratories - though I don't know in what way.

Unfortunately Science and Engineering are both highly mathematical... and maths was my weakest academic subject.

Merry Christmas Everybody!

@ArishMell Merry Christmas ⛄
Punxi · F
When I was 11..ish...I latched hold of wanting to find out where...people came from, on the inside.

I've followed that aspiration all my life.
@Punxi I love this. I felt the same.
Punxi · F
@Lostpoet Well said. Psychological development while periodic generationaly, more so dims from darkness beyond our scope of participation. I seek to hold the hand of anyone whom crosses the tracks of my train of thought whom needs one to help them find their way.
Punxi · F
@HijabaDabbaDoo Trust me...that side of me has quietly and intuitively recognized the same in you since our first interaction.

Sameness is beautiful 🩷♾

Mostly just arts and crafts projects. Some of those I tried, some I gave up on, some only made sense in connection to a specific child play I had. I don't have kids and neither work as an art teacher so getting back to those doesn't make any sense to me now.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@CrazyMusicLover Why not try taking up a craft or art more deeply, as a hobby? Then it will make sense.

It does not need to re-open the play-related subjects, of course.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@ArishMell I'm trying it with watercolor but I realized that I order to enjoy it I need to reserve special time for it and it's not easy for me. I know it's a bad habit but I'm afraid of messing it up if I make just quick jumps between work and chores to paint. Even if it would be more practical because that way a layer will dry, I can do other things in the meantime and then return to it again to do some other part. But that is quite chaotic for me.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@CrazyMusicLover I know it can be awkward trying to juggle a hobby and necessities!

Actually, working on the painting episodically as you describe, is not chaotic at all, but well-orgnaised because as you say, it allows each section to dry properly.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
I didn't have big goals and dreams. I wanted to live in a loft above a garage/workshop. Make a living off of my skills and have bonfires and make big pots of stew. Rescue animal/insects and teach art to kids.
Lostpoet · M
@ScreamingFox You can still do those things.
kodiac · 22-25, M
To survive and i did.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
Honestly i just wanted to survive
Bklynbadboy12 · 36-40, M
@AngelUnforgiven Damn was it that bad
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@Bklynbadboy12 yes it was pretty bad but I persevered and I'm the Superwoman that you see before you today
kodiac · 22-25, M
@AngelUnforgiven You're welcome!
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
My dream was to escape a drab world of grime and limited horizons for a world of glamour and adventure.
Lostpoet · M
@SchoolBelle Did you escape and live some of those adventures?
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@Lostpoet Oh, yes.
By the time I was 15 I knew I wanted to work in anything related to psychology
AdaXI · T
I wanted to become He-Man the most powerful man in the universe...
Then I wanted to become Robocop but neither of these things ever happened.
乂^‿^乂
YoMomma ·
@AdaXI you can still be robo cop 😃
Lostpoet · M
@AdaXI You can still become those things
PatKirby · M
Be an astronaut. Looking back now it must've been a pie-in-the-sky dream too far. 🚀
Lostpoet · M
@PatKirby It can still happen for you
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Mine was to be a locomotive engineer.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Lostpoet I never made it to that field. I was in the steel industry, retired now
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@Degbeme Do you mean a train driver?
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@SchoolBelle yes, that is what I mean.
YoMomma ·
I wanted to be empresses of a women's army of sword fighters and archers ☺
Lostpoet · M
@YoMomma I don't see why not you can still be that.
YoMomma ·
@Lostpoet ikr? 😅
HumanEarth · F
When I was kid I wanted to be a cop. Then I found out, you needed to be a good speller. I said to hell with that.

Now there's computers and cellphones that spell for you.
Lostpoet · M
@HumanEarth There are cops that don't even know how to tie their shoelaces let alone spell. I'm glad you decided not to be in law enforcement.
