A writer. I remember being spanked for not stopping my begging for a typewriter because I knew I could write better books than Dick And Jane.
I started writing professionally at 14, covering high school sports for several newspapers. I then refined my dream to being a Major League baseball writer. In journalism school I decided that was too limited a goal as there were only 16 teams (pre-expansion) and dreamed of becoming a foreign correspondent to address my curiosity about travel and other cultures as well.
By the time I completed college and Army duty, print journalism already was beginning to consolidate and shrink so I wound up doing PR work for a nonprofit health care system for 40 years -- but still writing.
