@Sroonaka616 where in the world ?
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M
@being England.

DrWatson · 70-79, M
I lived in the northeastern US until I was 22. We called it soda.

Since then, I have lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where people call it "pop." That is the word I use now.

I do recall a television commercial a long time ago (when I was in my "soda" stage) in which using the competing brand of mouthwash was said to be like "gargling with soda pop!"

I've since realized that nobody calls it "soda pop", but that the advertisers wanted to appeal to both "soda speaking" and "pop speaking" viewers!
PEACH4LIFE · 46-50, F
I'm in the deep south and many down here call everything Coke except Sweet Tea. 😂 My family calls it soda though.
Jokersswild · 22-25
@PEACH4LIFE Sometimes we just call it a drink.
PEACH4LIFE · 46-50, F
@Jokersswild That too or "drank" 😂
from NJ, went to school in Ohio, first time out ordered a burger, fries and a root beer soda. they brought me a root beer float. learned it was pop quickly.
@Thrust Wilt Chamberlin chose Kansas over Dayton for his college. could have changed history of both programs.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@saragoodtimes

That's right, Johnny Most called him "the bouncing buckeye from Ohio State”
Thrust · 56-60, M
@saragoodtimes true. Made sure there were still virgins there 😋

They would have been so dominant had he played thete
I know all those phrases for it. Commonly most called fizzy drink here but we also say pop or a bottle of fizz. I’m in Southern England.
Carla · 61-69, F
Im from Michigan as well. Though i lived in the south for many years and my mom was from texas. I went south calling it pop.
So now, i call a coke a coke. A pepsi a pepsi. And so on.

In my mind though, generically...i think orangegrapelemonlime soda.
4meAndyou · F
We used to call it Pop in Nebraska when I spent every summer there as a kid. I spent the school year in Massachusetts where they called it "tonic" which sounded ridiculous to me. Finally I settled on Soda, or the specific brand of Soda I wanted. But I've also been known to refer to it as Soda Pop...it brings my past and my present together.

I drink it VERY seldom, as it leeches ALL the potassium out of your body.
WonderGirl · 41-45
I was raised in New York City; we called it soda. I never heard the word "pop" until I moved upstate, which was a rural area. Still, when I hear someone say "pop," it always surprises me.
DragonFruit · 70-79, M
We xall it "soda".
When I was in St. Louis, a lot of people called it "pop"and went do far as to say that it shouldn't be called "soda"....despite the fact that the label said "soda".
West Coast here. "Soda" or "soft drinks" were how most people I knew referred to them. 😊
My family always said "soda" (and I do to this day) but most of my life I've been in a "pop" area.
Sleepysheep · 26-30, M
From Canada just north of ya and we call her pop too!
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Coke is called Coke. Pepsi is called Pepsi. Fanta is called Fanta. Sprite is called Sprite. But there are other soft drink makers here not just licensees of Coca Cola and Pepsico products.

Some people call drinks made with carbonated water 'fizzy drinks'.

My favouite drinks are sugar-free mineral waters and non-alcoholic ginger beer. Saxby's drinks are right up there and in my mind better than the crap that Coke and Pepsi produce.

A can of coke is about 50 pct sugar.
Soda, because I’m not brain dead. I lived in Michigan for 7 years and I’ll I got was a PhD, trauma, and the unfortunately habit of saying “ope” when I bump into something(one).
Poppies · 61-69, F
It was pop where I grew up in the Midwest, but soda where I live in the Mid-Atlantic region. Now used to soda.
Thrust · 56-60, M
In NE growing up it was called tonic. But that's long passed now
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F

Let's hope this map displays. I grew up and live in the northeast; pretty much soda territory.

OverTheHill · 61-69, M

Frisdrank (fresh drink) or priklimonade in the Netherlands.
TexChik · F
Coke is the universal name for all soft drinks when I was a kid
Thrust · 56-60, M
@TexChik

Everyone defaults to that. One reason Warren Buffet always recommends buying it (demand doesn't move much in down times)
SmoKin · M
