What is it with conservatives and the taliban?

I've noticed a strange trend with conservatives lately on the far right end of the spectrum. I was watching a debate yesterday and it was about a range of topics. However, someone mentioned that the Taliban were tossing gay people off roofs and the conservatives in the group were telling that person that the Taliban only kills child molesters and they don't kill gay people but if they did, they're serial molesters. I've seen variations of far righters sticking up for the Taliban on a variety of subjects so I'm kind of wondering, WTF guys.

I’ve noticed it too. I’ve seen some “Taliban apologetics” on SW too. They claim they don’t agree with some of their more extreme measures, but they admire them for enforcing “traditional values”. Western conservatism is becoming more disillusioned with libertarianism and is starting to embrace more openly authoritarian ideology, especially when it comes to enforcing “morality”. Libertarianism didn't overturn Roe vs. Wade; it failed to do so for decades. Utilizing the power of the least democratic branch of the government is what finally got it done.

@SW-User I've seen that too and it's always alarming, even more shocking when you're watching a live debate and see one of those people in real time saying it. At first you like to think they're trolls but after watching debates and stuff, they're very serious in all honesty. Kind of scary.

@SW-User I've seen the "super" moral anti western types and they're scary.

The Taliban are more understanding and forgiving.

It must give Conservatives existential angst because they both despise Muslims and want to emulate them. Schrodinger's bigot.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@Burnley123 Schrodinger's bigot hahahahahaha holy shit, that is so true.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SatanBurger I have to admit, I am proud of that one. 😂
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@Burnley123 As you should be, it was notably good.

The extreme right's "Christianity" has a lot in common with fundamentalist islam.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@Longpatrol Yeah it kind of gives us a little taste for what's in store should they ever gain power enough to really change things.

I need more examples

@Jackaloftheazuresand Here's some links, I could go into personal anecdotes like I did in my post from people I've heard while watching debates, even on SW occasionally (as SmarterChildRedux has mentioned) but just to enlighten further.

Here's politicians who have had pro Taliban comments:

@SatanBurger I haven't noticed things like those present in the first two or that Fuentes guy but yeah, the others I get. MSNBC said it best, it's really just about a common enemy. A lot of these are essentially saying to the left, "Look, even the taliban gets it right." I don't see it as so much support as a two-pronged insult. They call them both backwards in doing so while driving the fork further into the left with the comparison.

Personally just pissed the Taliban is allowed on Twitter but not Trump
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Largely because if unfettered they would like to do the same. They hate Sharia law, but really want Biblical law. But since both religions have common roots, they actually have a lot of the same rules.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@ViciDraco I think this is the best explanation, I was looking it up and a lot of the Taliban's views are the same as that of far righters or the alt right and they also cross over into Incel territory where they tend to blame women, Marxism and LGBT people so it makes sense that the right would praise the Taliban.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Two extreme right religions. That's what's going on. Even though far-right Christians are supposed to hate far-right Muslims, they recognize that they have something in common.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@LordShadowfire Yeah they both seem to be anti gay, traditionalist to the point of being psychotic and anti woman. Still, it's shocking to hear them say these things out loud. You always hear it on the internet but in person, it's kind of crazy. They really do like the Taliban which gives me an idea of how a country run with far rightists would go.

Eh, this is kinda typical amd history repeating itself. Once they're done waging war on a place, they start to humanize with their fasc. Grandpa bombs the Nazi's? Dad goes on about how Hitler was bad but right about some things. Father fights the commies? Son admires things about an ex-KGB leader.

You can find lots of examples of this post-enemy rethinking amongst hardline conservatives.
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@MethDozer Is there anything we can do? Probably not huh.
MethDozer · M
@SatanBurger Eh, why bother really?

I mean at the end of the day it's just a symptom not the root of the problem. If you're a far right authoritarian relgious zelot it really doesn't make nuch difference to me if you sympathize with far right authprtarian zealots of other religions or not.
