What is it with conservatives and the taliban?

I've noticed a strange trend with conservatives lately on the far right end of the spectrum. I was watching a debate yesterday and it was about a range of topics. However, someone mentioned that the Taliban were tossing gay people off roofs and the conservatives in the group were telling that person that the Taliban only kills child molesters and they don't kill gay people but if they did, they're serial molesters. I've seen variations of far righters sticking up for the Taliban on a variety of subjects so I'm kind of wondering, WTF guys.

Largely because if unfettered they would like to do the same. They hate Sharia law, but really want Biblical law. But since both religions have common roots, they actually have a lot of the same rules.

@ViciDraco I think this is the best explanation, I was looking it up and a lot of the Taliban's views are the same as that of far righters or the alt right and they also cross over into Incel territory where they tend to blame women, Marxism and LGBT people so it makes sense that the right would praise the Taliban.
