I'm sorry bud 😔 I was actually scammed recently out of 500 myself through dating.
I was emotionally manipulated while in a lonely vulnerable place by someone very good at what they did, fake website and everything.
You never think you'll be that person until the circumstances align. It was an isolating and scary experience.
Don't be embarrassed or ashamed for trusting someone, you're a victim of manipulation. When I finally told somebody I felt better, and I told more people I really trusted. I found that really helped, I'd recommend it.

One of the red flags is when they ask you to shift your conversation to another site, they will not asked for money on here.
Asking for money from any sob story is a second red flag.
Never, never give anyone your bank details. Another red flag.
Telling them to use a food bank, gets rid of them quickly I can assure you.

Romance scams are targeted at men 100 to 1000x more than women! All dating sites are basically commercial romance scams targeting men many orders of magnitude more than women.
Even things like Onlyfans can be lumped into the category as it's primarily instagram model women doing stuff for sexual likes, payments, validation and sexual favours. Commercial prostitution in a new modern format.

@zonavar68 Oh, I am sure yopu are right but the rot started years ago with telephone-dating agencies even though genuine, not criminal gangs. As I found, and abandoned after only two attempts.
The internet just makes things easier.
The telephone services were genuine, and legal, but all at premium-rates. The telephone company took its normal commercial-number fees from each call but the surplus went to the number-owner.
They started with a soothing recorded message ten to fifteen minutes long before playing so much as the first ad.
Also of course, trying to choose your potential soul-mate meant listening to many advertisements you could not refer back to, if Number 3 seemed better than No.7 but at least No.13 did not live two hundred miles away. You'd have had to start all over again!
This nonsense ran up such a massive, unexpected premium-rate bill for me that BT suspended my access to the agency until verifying the call was from me, not someone using my 'phone without permission. The operator was very helpful and asked if I'd like the bar lifted or left in place.
I chose to leave the bar on; and have never attempted to use any dating-agency since.

They are absolutely not. I lost 300 bucks to scammers years ago. Scammers attack anyone they can.
