@karysma Sounds sweet. Delusional but sweet.

@wilderflower Either way it feels good. Really really good. Thank you Lord Jesus
wilderflower · F
@karysma You're welcome.
If it's true that the bible is true then i would believe....
I confess that i'm not sure how useful a question this is. If i knew that the god of the bible was real then would i believe the god of the bible was real...uh yeah.
But as for the interpretation of the KIND of god represented in the bible...well i think there'd still be some issues.
There's far too much genocide for me to buy the NT line that god is all loving.
Just like I can't believe humanity treating God with less respect than a dog!
I wonder...is it worse that dog not respect his master or that its master kills it for not respecting him...
Hey dude, i you want to debate the fact that birds categorically appear in the fossil record after land animals then i'm willing. I think the last time we did you provided a scientific article which actually ended up supporting my position lol.
Or evolution in general because you're right, that is one of my favourite topics of discussion.

Taking your question at face value. If you could "prove" the truth of the bible I would have no alternative but to belive. However, that then calls in to question would I worship at Gods foot. The answer is, No. At best on his record (we just accepted it was all true.) The being is a psychopathic mass murders guilty of genocide against innocent children, promoting incest and a hundred other crimes. I will take my chances with that British actor guy who plays Lucifer.,

@Carazaa Is a newborn expected to even know that God exists, let alone 'love' Him?
Would the NT God do such a thing?
Would the NT God do such a thing?
Carazaa · F
@Bushranger Jesus and Jehovah is one and the same. Jesus is the God of the Old Testament and only He could stretch out his arm to save us. Jehovah says, "My own arm stretched out" In Isaiah, because there was no one in heaven who could help us miserable souls. The old testament is about Gods expectations of us, and giving the stories to the Jews. Each love story is a revelation to us of Gods mercy, and our sinfulness. God helped them and carried out Gods judgment on the peoples against God and His people. "I am a consuming fire" He said, The sacrificed lamb and the word becomes flesh in the New Testament to take away our sins and reconciles humanity to God. It is an amazing act of loving kindness towards humanity. "How can you escape if you neglect such a great Salvation"
Here is a passage from the old testament Zechariah 12:8-10
"8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

@Carazaa Sorry, I can't accept the supposed love expressed in the OT. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

@Harriet03 OK! Most people would agree with you! Most people believed in Santa too! Most people did not believe in God and still don't. I care a lot and there is a lot more at stake here than a present under the tree, but I respect your opinion.
Can you share how it is illogical to you? Because the Bible is pretty clear about any thing that might not make much sense to humans but in reality from Gods vantage point is clear as crystal, but it does require a brain twist which is not very comfortable for most.ha ha! Duck got it though which is amazing for an atheist.

I find the two premises of your question flawed.
1 for me I believe Jesus existed.
2 was he the "son of God"? For me no more than you or I.
3 were his teachings valuable? Yes, you can't deny anything other when you see the spread of Christianity and Muslims also revere him.
4 is the Bible true? No I do not believe so. Just the inconsistencies between the published 4 gospels in the new testament mean it's at best an interpretation written some years after the events probably by people not even there.
Lastly to all those that do believe the point is that they have faith. If someone proved to Bible to be true it possibly would make little difference to them. But if you no longer need faith then what is God / Jesus (they are after all 2 parts of the trinity of a singular diety). If you prove it true, to me, the beauty of faith is removed.

If it was true, yes I would reject the God you speak of, the one who knows all yet tests people, says its ok to own slaves, mass genocide.no, the thing is a monster
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
and when you force your opinion down my throat, I have to defend and explain my position
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Jesus Crist was real, that he was the son of god is false, the bible was written by people who believed he was the son of god.
If god can create a son born to a mortal why couldn't it create a book or a son without a middle man?
We live and die just like all other life on this planet, without a god looking out for us. No

Carazaa · F
@FreeSpirit1 Actually it was the other way around. The apostles were mostly skeptics, and didn't believe until they saw his miracles and rose from the dead.
Gusman · 61-69, M
I would totally reject it.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Gusman yeah, not wanting to be an annoying little fuck here.
But in that world where the bible is objectively true.
Why would you reject it? By rejecting it, you would be objectively wrong?
Doesn't that put you in the same position that we criticise religious people for? Wouldn't you sin to the same things that we don't like about people that adopt a premise that is just wrong?

@Gusman I'm not sure if you got her original question. The original question was that you have to accept that it's true that the bible is true. And in that reality, "would you believe?"
The question by itself is quite ridiculous, because if you know things are true, then "believe" isn't really a good word choice. But in that reality... would you accept it... well, if you don't, then why not?
My vieuws on the bible aren't far off from your vieuws. We do come to the same conclussion. But that wasn't what was asked, it's off toppic.

Well, if it was true. I would believe in it.
I thought that it not being true, was the entire problem in the first place. 😅

Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Spoiledbrat She sure does. But if she considers me smart... then well, you should at least reflect on your own position a little bit. If I'm smart, where does that put herself? 🤯
Carazaa · F
@Spoiledbrat Yes I do!🌻
I’m on the fence. I believe in a higher being (God) but I think religion is used to control people and the same people calling themselves religious are usually really hypocritical and also sometimes violent. I think the bible and religion has done more harm throughout history than good. I relate more with spirituality.
Correct, but a lot of people want to argue atheists are not good people simply because they don’t follow religion. And I never knew what a relationship with God was until I became more spiritual because the religion aspect does not make me feel close to God. It’s not a personal relationship, it’s a set of rules. To each their own. @Budwick
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Freudianslip13 Adain, I say -
'For your own sake, don't dump religion based on what some people may have done.
Religion is about your relationship with God.'
And, you are again inserting other people into your opinion.
A relationship with God can't get more personal.
If you've distilled it down to a set of rules -
I think you've missed the point.

By Bible, I assume you mean the New Testament? If so, then there are certain parts of the NT that are historically valid, specifically the life and times of a certain Yasu' ben Mariam, all other super-natural stuff, such as the virgin birth, appearance of angels, and resurrection, cannot be proven, beyond accepting it as part of one's faith. So, it's kind of like watching a documentary on Fox, a grain of truth, mixed in with a mountain of fiction, and wishful thinking.
Northwest · M
@Carazaa There's a guy, down in Pioneer Square, who tells me he's God. Is this the guy you're thinking of? I asked him for some proof, like, for instance, help the Seahawks win every game, but he can't even do that, so I doubt he's God.
I'll tell you what, if you can produce God, I will certainly give it some consideration.

Well that is open minded of you!
The guy who says he is god has Schitsophrenia. he cant raise people from the dead, he cant cast out demons, and he probably did drugs and fried his brain. He needs help, and love, and probably food, and a place to live. We need to pray for him!

It is true in that it does depict some history - and word of God - but there are plenty of things that are not true - OMG does that sound familiar - like out revisionist history books that are brainwashing kids minds to believe Columbus didn't discover America.

The Bible is true and i do believe wvery Word of it. Repentance is an ongoing stage to every believer. We all fall and we all raise. Praise be to God in all circumstances.

If we knew for a fact that it was all real, belief would not be a necessity, neither would faith. If you're asking me if I'd follow God, the answer is no.

As Jesus said, even if someone came back from the dead, people wouldn't believe.
