Taking your question at face value. If you could "prove" the truth of the bible I would have no alternative but to belive. However, that then calls in to question would I worship at Gods foot. The answer is, No. At best on his record (we just accepted it was all true.) The being is a psychopathic mass murders guilty of genocide against innocent children, promoting incest and a hundred other crimes. I will take my chances with that British actor guy who plays Lucifer.,
@whowasthatmaskedman

Exactly my position.
If it was shown to be true then there's no alternative but to believe.
But you can believe that a genocidal narcissist is real and has power over you and not worship him.

I think that's one thing that carazaa really doesn't understand as a believer. She has faith that god really loves us because that's what he says in the NT.
But i just don't see that substantiated by the the recorded actions of the god of the bible.

@whowasthatmaskedman Here is another rebellious one 😏

@Pikachu No that is NOT why I say He is loving. What did I say? I said I know he answers my prayers. Well He does more than that. He goes before me. I had a huge miracle happen this week. Again he figured out a dilemma before I had the answer He solved it. It is so amazing.

@whowasthatmaskedman @Pikachu just as a matter of interest, if Christians only followed the New Testament and that was proven to be true, would you be willing to worship that God?
Carazaa · F
@whowasthatmaskedman I really meant that answer for you that I by mistake wrote Pika, sorry!
@Carazaa

I can't argue with your personal experiences, carazaa. I can only judge your god by his apparent record.

What was the miracle?
@Bushranger

Yeah i think so. OT god is a brutal, self-admittedly jealous genocide.
NT god is a lot more chill.
Still pretty demanding but i think i could get on board. Although i think i';d still have trouble with the whole "sacrificed my son/self to save you from my own judgement".

But yeah, i could see that being more likely.

@Pikachu Thanks, mate. Was just curious. I feel pretty much the same. Really can't understand why Christians didn't start fresh and only have a passing reference to the OT. Things may have been very different if they had.
Carazaa · F
@whowasthatmaskedman That is ridiculous without knowing Him!
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu not telling, I am a secret person 😉
Carazaa · F
@Bushranger Because then we don't fully understand how God helped a helpless people, the Jews, and fought their battles, and how they rebelled against him and what happened! Jesus came out of the Jewish people.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Carazaa Let's assume the early Christians decided to start afresh and, while recognizing Jesus's Jewish heritage, introduced a new version of God, one more forgiving and less demanding. That would have changed the entire religious discourse. Perhaps it's a shame it didn't happen.
Carazaa · F
@Bushranger A more forgiving and less demanding? There is no more forgiving God or person. He forgives all your sins. But does he have to forgive those who hate him and call him a tyrant?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Carazaa Did he have to kill the children and animals of those who didn't like Him or his people? The God of the OT is harsher and more brutal than that of the NT. It's almost as if they really are two different entities.
Carazaa · F
@whowasthatmaskedman OK I think you don't know God and haven't read the Bible if you believe that because God is very loving!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Carazaa The Egyptians who lost their firstborn and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah would probably disagree.. Then there is the everyone drowned in the Flood
Carazaa · F
@whowasthatmaskedman God burned down the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah because they were sinning, mocked God, and attacked the Godly! And all the firstborn in Egypt because they did not love God!
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Carazaa Is a newborn expected to even know that God exists, let alone 'love' Him?

Would the NT God do such a thing?
Carazaa · F
@Bushranger Jesus and Jehovah is one and the same. Jesus is the God of the Old Testament and only He could stretch out his arm to save us. Jehovah says, "My own arm stretched out" In Isaiah, because there was no one in heaven who could help us miserable souls. The old testament is about Gods expectations of us, and giving the stories to the Jews. Each love story is a revelation to us of Gods mercy, and our sinfulness. God helped them and carried out Gods judgment on the peoples against God and His people. "I am a consuming fire" He said, The sacrificed lamb and the word becomes flesh in the New Testament to take away our sins and reconciles humanity to God. It is an amazing act of loving kindness towards humanity. "How can you escape if you neglect such a great Salvation"

Here is a passage from the old testament Zechariah 12:8-10

"8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Carazaa Sorry, I can't accept the supposed love expressed in the OT. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
