I live out in the sticks so it would be hard
@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz I like the expression. Enjoy the countryside, if it is such.

I’ve been without a car for over 30 years now. There are some cities where it wouldn’t work, but here, I can manage it.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Years ago, I had a friend in New York City, who's monthly parking fee for his apartment building's garage was more than the monthly rent for my efficiency apartment in Madison, WI!
Lilymoon · F
@bijouxbroussard that's awesome

SW-User
Unfortunately not..public transport round here isn’t great

@SW-User What happened to your bike with the carrier on the front? 🤭

SW-User
@Degbeme I still got it! Unfortunately don’t have the time to bike commute anymore 🥲

SW-User
my city is sprawled. it would cost a fortune to get around, or take all day and night to get things done. public transport here is geared around tourists
Lilymoon · F
@SW-User yup
Matt85 · 36-40, M
Where I live, in the 'burbs, it's very convenient to have. It's an hour round trip to walk to the local Co Op. It's about an 18 minute drive into the city, which I go to quite often.

Alessa · 22-25, F
I don't have a car right now but I live and work in the same place. Once this job is over though, I will need a car and no way to not have one in order to live.
Mooed78 · F
Not in this part of Ireland. We don’t have proper public transport

SW-User
It's difficult to live without a car in this area, even just for a few days while it's in the shop. Unless the mechanic can get me a loner car, I'm stuck with no public transportation, no taxi service and no friends or family nearby to give me a ride. Rentals are unthinkably expensive.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I sold my car in TX before moving to AZ, because the car was over 10 yrs old and I knew it wouldn't be smart to try to drive it all the way to AZ.
I don't regret it, because there are lots of transportation options here.

Lilymoon · F
@DearAmbellina2113 that's good
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I have no car of my own nor driving license. It works, it saves a lot of money. There's good communications here and I have a local store a few blocks down or I got the internet.
exexec · 70-79, C
I have a 20 year old truck, and I would be stuck at home without it. No public transportation in our city.

SW-User
@exexec I just lost my 20 year old van. Now I have my Dad's old SUV which has even more mileage... but it's better than having to go out and buy something. Even used cars are horrendously expensive here.
exexec · 70-79, C
@SW-User People ask me why I don't buy a new vehicle since I could easily afford one. My Chevy runs great, looks good, rides fine, and is paid for. Why would I want to dump it?

SW-User
@exexec Exactly. Why spend all that money if you don't need to? My other car, which i just lost last year, was 22. It was a beauty right up until the parking lot "accident" that totaled it.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I did not own a car until I was 28 years old. Up until then, I was living in cities with good public transportation.
But where I live now, I need one.

It is difficult.
I need clearance from three medical assessors before i can have my licence back.
Made twice as difficult since i don't have a diagnosis yet as to what they're not treating me for.
However. On those 'good days' when i'm without pain and am reasonably mobile, i'm trying to take advantage of subsidized bus fares around the country.
Which ironically is cheaper but gives me backache !

@Picklebobble2 sorry to hear that... hope you can eventually get your license back
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Lilymoon The medical profession disturbs me i'm afraid.
I went to see a Doctor with a problem.
Doctor referred me to a 'specialist'
'Specialist' tells Doctor what he thinks
Doctor refers me to other 'specialists' who do exactly what the others have done then reports back to Doctor.
And the only one with no clue what's going on is me ! The patient.

@Picklebobble2 yeah... not surprising... 😕
NickyLee · 41-45
I have 4 of them and 3 motorcycles, so not a chance
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I probably could. But I won`t.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
I could but my life would be much harder. I have a couple neighbors that bike to get groceries and or walk. I have a work at home job and haven't had to go to an office for about a decade. I could make it work and I don't drive much but it is nice to have. I took a road trip today for instance.
Fullmetal · 51-55, M
Not unless I learn to fly!
boredintexas · 36-40, M
It would be hard to drive places
Strix · 61-69, F
I stopped driving a couple of years back as I couldn't face going out on the roads any more. I mainly walk unless I need to use public transport.
BobbyMoeven · 100+, M
Yup ...
I actually never owned one for most of my life ...
It was a bit of a hassle but actually fun getting rentals and trying out new rides each time ...I would never rent the same type of vehicle twice ..

I lose my mind when either of my BMWs are down.
It will become a legitimate emergency to me even though it really isn't.

@goneNow6565 Two beamers huh? 😒
@Lilymoon I brought it up because you have an M series in the pic
Lilymoon · F
@goneNow6565 yeah it's a nice car...
calicuz · 56-60, M
Nope, I work 35 minutes from home, so it would probably take 3 hours on public transportation to get to work and then home again, so that is not an option.

SW-User
I probably could. I work from home, its a 20 minute walk to the shops and 20 minute train into Edinburgh. I might need to hire one occasionally.
Lilymoon · F
@SW-User that's pretty good
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
I'd love to give it up but most places are too far to walk to although I can walk to town in about 10-15 minutes. Yet I'd be limited to shops I never visit like the dollar tree.😏
popmol · 26-30, M
Such American continent troubles!

SW-User
I don't have a car, so I suppose the answer must be Yes.
Then again, how does cadging a lift from mates fit into the question?
😀

@SW-User if it works go for it!
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
When we move back to the city in the next few weeks I will sell my car and have greater peace of mind without it. I find our roads increasingly hostile and frightening.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
No, it would require substantial changes to my lifestyle. Plenty of time for that later when i can't drive any more.
Colonelmustardseed · 36-40
For a little bit, but it’s hard because everything I need to get to isn’t in walking distance.
Lilymoon · F
@Colonelmustardseed yeah that's the problem for sure
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
No way , I work in Road Construction.
And I clock 1000-1500 KM a week in my Hilux ute.

Adeptlinguist · M
Where live, absolutely. Very good and cheap public transport and cycling infrastructure.

SW-User
Yes but I need it for when I do groceries or move stuff. I’d have to get a Lyft or Uber every time.
RedBaron · M
I already do. Uber and public transit is much easier to use where I live.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@RedBaron lucky you.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
20 or so miles from any decent town. That would be hard without a car
Lilymoon · F
@smileylovesgaming wowie
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Lilymoon my thighs would be burning after that

SW-User
Nope! I need every one of them. I'm not driving much now but will be.
Lilymoon · F
@SW-User for sure I know you're a car lover! bet you're looking forward to driving more

SW-User
@Lilymoon I am!
NerdyPotato · M
Easily. Europe designs their cities in such a way you can get to places without driving.
Lilymoon · F
@NerdyPotato nice
jackson55 · M
I could, because I have several motorcycles.
GBPackersFan · 41-45, M
I’d love to live without the trips to the auto repair place 🤦🏻♂️

GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
I could but it would be very inconvenient and cost more
sciguy18 · M
It would be incredibly difficult and time consuming.
Ontheroad · M
Probably, but it wouldn't be fun or even sensible.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I haven't owned a car in almost 20 years.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
Easily. I've never owned or driven a car.
I could, and I may just do that soon. I hate driving. That being said, on Thursday I got my drivers license renewed for another 5 years. 🤣
Pretzel · 70-79, M
I could and just rent it when I went out of town
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Yep I could live without but wouldn’t like too
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@lilymoon] 😆never been an issue for me as i cannot drive lol
martyjay · 46-50, M
Maybe if I lived in a big city. But no.
