Approximately. I'm due.
Poppies · 61-69, F
@exexec my suggestion is don't delay! Nowadays they are generally given together with pertussis vaccine. Travelling a year ago my husband and I both got pertussis, which is really going around. My husband had not been vaccinated in over 10 years and he got a severe case. My vaccination was more recent and I got only a mild case.
exexec · 70-79, C
@Poppies I plan to do it next week. Too busy this week.

zonavar68 · 56-60, M
If I've ever had one, it probably would have been in 1996 before I went on my first solo overseas trip to Canada. I had another solo OS trip to the USA in 1997, but have never traveled out of Australia since then.

I haven't seen a GP in nearly 3 years btw.

Hold on - I have got it because in 2017 before my daughter was born I got a boostrix jab which includes coverage for tetanus. So that's the only one since the mid-1990's.

I've never had a regular flu or Covid flu jab though.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
I did at my former employer. People mail all kinds of random stuff. Get hurt at work? Management blames the employee. The insurance company covered it at 100%.

My vaccine is still in the fridge after about three months. I did pay for it, let them think I am living dangerously.
meggie · F
I think i had one years ago when i went to Malaysia, but not since. I've not been offered one either.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
I get them I love all vaccines and ask to be given every one possible exactly on time.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
You probably dont need a tetanus per se, but may need the pertussis and diphtheria, maybe even a measles. Check on other vaccines as well.
exchrist · 31-35
I get them if im going to travel internationally i did that about 15 years ago.
Carla · 61-69, F
I do.
Im always cutting myself on something. Better safe than sorry.
The shot is nothing.
Tetanus is not nothing.

I didn't..I'd rather not!

I’ve had maybe two of them but it’s been awhile
NewWorldToronto · 51-55, M
I just get one when I step on a rusty nail....which is about once every 10 years. 😁
swirlie · 31-35
@NewWorldToronto
It's too late for a tetanus shot after you've already stepped on a rusty nail!
Allelse · 36-40, M
Been a while I think.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
That is the only shot/booster shot I have ever gotten or will ever get because on my farm I am always cutting myself on some sort of rusty metal here and there.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@WillaKissing I do hope you realize it is not the rust that causes tetanus? It is the spore of the bacterium that lives in the ground. As a physician, I remember over-immunizing individuals for tetanus. When the immunity was studied epidemiologically, it was found that the immunity to tetanus is fairly good, many years after the last dose, except in certain populations. In my over 50 years of practice, I treated only one case of tetanus, in a drug abuser who skin popped.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 I did not know having not had a medical career field myself, but I always refuse "All" Other vaccinations, ALL!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@WillaKissing By refusing ALL you are playing Russian Roulette with your life. That is your choice, but it could also put your loved ones at risk.
Magenta · F
I do not, never have.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
Nope. Hasn't been a problem either.
I don't remember the last time I got a tetanus shot... longer than 21 years ago at least.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
Nah, I just lick a rusty nail every couple of years… Homeopathy and all that 😅
MougyWolf · 36-40, M
*cries over a bumble bee* 🐺🍯
swirlie · 31-35
The thing with tetanus is that you're just fine without it until you're not, so either get the shot or start wearing steel-soled running shoes and avoid walking around in cluttered construction sites.

@jackrabbit10
..we're talking about shots with a needle here, not shots fired from a shotgun being held by a jealous husband... you knew that, right?
@swirlie that why I am called Jackrabbit, my nick name
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
All I know is I’m updated when it comes to my shots 😂🤷🏾‍♂

A tetanus vaccination wears off after about 10 years, which is why a booster is recommended once every 10 years.
gandalf1957 · 61-69, M
@swirlie i was told by my doctor's surgery in the UK that research had changed the thinking and it was now believed that eventually one had sufficient tetanus texoid vaccinations to give life cover so that the 10 year booster was only required if that life cover had not been reached.
swirlie · 31-35
@gandalf1957
..and it was now believed that eventually one had sufficient tetanus texoid vaccinations to give life cover so that the 10 year booster was only required if that life cover had not been reached.

The words "it was now believed" will serve as your first clue that there is no factual evidence yet to prove that the 10 year booster is only required if that life cover had not been reached, nor is there a way of determining IF that life cover has or has not been reached with anyone, hence the 10 year booster recommendation.
Last time I had one was in 1985, it made me so sick I ended up in the er.
