A tetanus vaccination wears off after about 10 years, which is why a booster is recommended once every 10 years.

@swirlie i was told by my doctor's surgery in the UK that research had changed the thinking and it was now believed that eventually one had sufficient tetanus texoid vaccinations to give life cover so that the 10 year booster was only required if that life cover had not been reached.

The words "it was now believed" will serve as your first clue that there is no factual evidence yet to prove that the 10 year booster is only required if that life cover had not been reached, nor is there a way of determining IF that life cover has or has not been reached with anyone, hence the 10 year booster recommendation.
