Loss of friends

I have recently lost 3 good friends due to who I voted for. I’ve known these 3 ladies for 18 years and we were very close. I can’t tell you how shocked I was, and sad. They have known for years who o supported, but this year they decided to cut ties with me bc their candidate lost. Anyone else gone through this?

It is sad. Sad that you chose such prejudiced, limited friends in the first place. Political differences or even religious differences are no reason to shun a person you value. I guess they didnt value you. Upgrade to better friends.😷

And thank you for Best Comment

@whowasthatmaskedman no, if you are referring to being gay… I’m not. I like men. I’m don’t judge those who are gay, I’m not the sin police.

@Mbingh01 I was actually thinking more like you all being fans of a certain baseball club and you changing to another, followed by them shunning you.😷

I have lost a possible girlfriend and a few people on here who have me on their block list due to my political leanings. I try as much as I can to avoid heated political discussions on this site.
i got no clue. if they cut me off because of that, then they werent real friends to begin with. i have friends in both parties and some in third parties. who they vote for is their business. if we have conflicting beliefs, well, thats what America is all about to begin with. the ability to have different viewpoints.

iodnt tell people who i vote for
Mbingh01 · 61-69, F
@kutee probably a good idea!

Nah all of my friends are politically aligned. It's not even strange all things considered

Sorry to hear that you lost friends over this.

I know people whose family members have rejected them (parents and children, siblings) and will not have anything to do with them because of their difference of opinion in who they supported in the election. It is sad to think that people let political ideologies divide their family.
jsutton2020 · 41-45, M
Well, i can guess your party and theirs. Their party is in the habit of cutting off people who don't agree with them yet they claim to be the tolerant ones. I've had a few of those lost "friendships".
If they quite their friendship over who you vote for, they aren't real friends.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
No.

However, I don't discuss politics with people I don't trust.

It's their loss, you will make other friends.

@Mbingh01 The whole thing just seems ridiculous to me. It's like breaking a friendship over a sports team. People who talk and behave like that are not your friends. Friends have empathy for each other. If they are willing to toss the friendship aside over your voting preferences, I can't see how the relationship was meaningful in the first place.
lipstickguy · 61-69, M
guess what? they were not friends even though you thought of them as friends the feeling was not mutual.
Fairydust · F
Wow that’s messed up! I’ll never understand people like that. 😲
Mbingh01 · 61-69, F
@Fairydust yes it is messed up, I never saw this coming in a million years.

@Mbingh01

I’m sorry 😔 that’s hurtful.
JustNik · 51-55, F
Did you ask them why they felt the need to go to such lengths?
Mbingh01 · 61-69, F
@JustNik oh yes, me and the one I care about had a lengthy talk. I believe her wife/ partner is pressuring her. I could care less if I ever see the other one again.

I wrote off some bigots myself 🤷‍♀

Yup .. and consider it a sign of who they really are and how little I truly meant to them. If that's the kind of "friends" they are .. I don't need them around.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
Well, I voted for Trump too...so we can become new friends...lol
I have no friends, so no.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I would never, ever get rid of someone over politics. Sadly, many people do not agree.

@JamesBugman Excuse me?

Thats sad, I am not really into politics or religion, so I don't have any problems there.
They weren't worthy friends then, I have a Dear Friend in northern California I call Brother, him and I clash on politics all the time, but at the end if the day we still have like minded ideals and interests in other areas and still get along very well.
