Depends on how closely related. First cousin - yikes! By the time you get to third cousins, you are fine, and there is some reason to believe that third cousins produce healthier kids than folks who are less closely related. (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/02/080207140855.htm) Also, we're all cousins, it's just a question of how close.
I was extremely attracted to a fifth cousin, who arrived here on a visit from England. And was also attracted to a first cousin on my father's side of the family when I was about 15. However, when I was 15 I was attracted to just about everyone...😂😂😂.
I do know that it is NOT okay, genetically speaking, to marry your 1st cousin. Any lethal genes will be doubly replicated in your children. There is far greater chance of a mongoloid child, and far greater chance of genetic disease.
I had two first cousins to me who were also first cousins to each other they were married for well over 30 years until he passed away. However it restricted his career as he couldn't relocate to a particular state in the USA at once point because of it.
My wife has a first cousin who is in turn married to one of his first cousins. Again strong stable marriage.
It's against the law nowadays in Great Britain although people still do, it's all about Genes it's far more likely that their children will have "Mental Health" the statistics are overwhelming that's why the law was brought in to try and stop couples doing this.
@senghenydd It's not against the law in UK to marry a first cousin - you are not permitted to marry any on this list Adoptive child, Adoptive parent, Child, Former adoptive child, Former adoptive parent, Grandparent, Grandchild, Parent, Parent’s sibling,Sibling, Sibling’s child.
@CheekyBadger I wasn't absolutely sure I know it's frowned upon and I have in the past worked in Mental Health in a Low Secure Unit the statistics for children whose parents were first cousins isn't very good (I stand Corrected).
it's perfectly okay to marry anyone, even your sibling. The concept of incest is from an age where there was no contraceptives. Nobody bothered to review the concept after the advent of contraceptives. And going by the concept of incest, there are as many babies suffering from outbreeding depression, like how it was during inbreeding depression.
But what you need to do first is ask yourself What is Marriage and what are you trying to acheive by it ?
I believe it varies from state to state on how distant a relative has to be in order to marry. I dont believe first cousins would be allowed but then again Im not an expert on the deep south's laws.
I guess if you’re okay with everyone disowning you and giving up your integrity. You will most likely have to lie about the fact you married your own cousin to avoid harsh judgement, it’s highly frowned upon and even you think so that’s why you are asking this question.
Morally, there is nothing preventing this if you love each other. However, from a genetics point of view, it is unwise to have children with a first cousin or sibling.
According to the bible, if you believe the story of Adam and Eve....the story of the flood, where only Noah and a few family members survived....then we are all inbred.
