How do you handle people who lie to you,?

LadyGrace · 70-79
I bring it to their attention and see what they have to say about it. I do not like liars. I won't have them in my life. But if it can be resolved, that's a good thing. But they should not lie to me again. That really shows where their heart is. I forgive them but if they continue to do so, I will forgive them, but I will not have them in my life. Trust is a big thing.

A serious answer ?

Okay, just this time.

I think how people respond this question probably depends on the kind of lies they encounter, whether online or in real life - and also how they feel about the truth.

In the real world it's actually rare that people lie to my face, so I admit I can't always tell right away. But I always find out sooner or later, and when I do I always let the liar know that they can never take my trust for granted again. Because of how I live, truth matters in my work and on a personal level.

Online and in particular on sites like this one, I expect to be trolled, manipulated, disrespected, cheated, played , and lied to in one way or another virtually every day. Especially when it comes to political "debate". I generally ignore the BS spewed by anyone who claims to have some special knowledge, and thinks they have a "cause" to argue. And I almost never, ever share other details of my life that would make anyone think I owe them anything. People who treat places like this as anything more than entertainment baffle me.

But once in a while I see a lie posted that's so outrageous, so clearly false, so obviously meant to insult decency and common sense - that I react. And I do it because that kind of garbage stinks up what little fresh air there is here for me and everyone else. I call it out the way I would warn a neighbor about broken glass in their driveway.

Someone famous once said a dirty lie can travel halfway around the world, while the truth is still waking up and trying to find it's shoes. I like to think I can at least pour some coffee.

Meh. That's on them. Everyone lies sometime(s). Or has. If it's a habit, I don't handle or deal with them.
@Magenta Not everyone lies, there are those of us where honesty is the only way.
@Magenta Nope. Everyone doesn’t lie! Oh no!

Should a stranger lie toyou. It indicates that you are in an unsafe circumstance. Get out of there.

Ifan acquaintance lie toyou, let them think you believethem. Then disengage them.

If a friend lies to you , confront them. Give them a second chance. If they continue, theyare not anymore your friend.

If a family memberlie to you, talk to them. Address thecircumstance that made them lie to you. Forgive them, but never forget.

If someone you respect lies to you, have a conversation with yourself how you ended up being so fallible. Learn from the mistake and be smarter next time.

It depends on who it is, what kind of lie, and other circumstances. I tend to forgive, but if lying is repetitive, I tend to cut ties with them.
Lilyb · 22-25, F
Ask what political party they represent
@Lilyb That's irrelevant, both parties lie
Lilyb · 22-25, F
@NativePortlander1970 should read...all parties...lol
@Lilyb I have found third parties to be a lot more honest than the corrupt duopoly.
Elisbch · M
I no longer take them seriously. If it's habitual, they don't stick around long.

When i figure it out or aproached by the lie i just try to blunty say its wrong. If its too well spread and noone believes the truth 🤷‍♂ it is what it is. Unless its like " oh yeah this structure is totally safe to stand in". Then id just go home.
Never vote for him again.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Tell them nothing of any consequence or importance going forward and never trust what they tell you.

@jackjjackson

Such good advice, and served with an ironic cherry on top 🙄

If its possible to ignore and not have to be around them I leave them alone. A family member or co worker you call them on their lie

I would believe them for the time being as I don't like making anyone testify.. but would see how am I affected..
Tracos · 51-55, M
