I’m just curious, has owning a gun ever actually protected you or is more of just a peace of mind

Just like knowing you have a gun in your house if you need it, it’s there?
acpguy · C
Just one more comment here on this matter then I quit. I would like you and some others here to think seriously about this. Since man has been on this planet we haven't become advanced enough that we haven't always had knuckle draggers that want to do bad things to others. Weapons have been a means of protection from those that want to do us harm. If this world were that advanced we would not have idiots running countries like Iran, North Korea, China and others that enslave people, kill people that do not follow their thoughts. Nor would we need bombs, war planes and war ships and weapons of ass destruction. You may have never been attacked or had your life threatened up to this point but that does not mean it will not happen to you or a relative that might require a gun and you might live in what is a safe place. Not everyone enjoys your safe way of life in a safe place. We have places today as you can see on the news daily where some insane person goes about killing others, there are gangs that kill each other but also kill innocents that get in the way. When you or someone else finds a way to wave their magic wand eliminate hatred, insanity, racism and stupidity we will have to have a means to defend ourselves. Baseball bats, hat pins and nasty words do not work against someone with a gun or hell bent on killing others. We did have the death penalty in most states but liberals have removed that, we used to allow people to open carry guns in most places but that has been eliminated in most places by liberals, killing someone in self defense of your or someone else's life is now an act that can get you in trouble. This country is going to hell due to liberal minded thinking and it will get worse if we take guns away form law abiding people and continue to not rid this country of those that are not.
Oh of course not. They also turn a blind eye on how gun control ALWAYS fails to stop gun crime and only turns victims who try to defend themselves into criminals. I guess we’re all supposed to just curl up into a fetal ball, piss ourselves and pray the bad boogeyman isn’t gonna rape our kids. @acpguy
@acpguy well, I don’t know the answers but It seems like a lot of massacres could have been avoided if mentally unstable people didn’t have access to a gun.

@SweetNSassy Tell me and try thinking; do you think even half of unbalanced people seek help? If a person is and they want to hold onto or get guns they are especially not going to seek help. I have nothing against a 10 day waiting period to obtain a gun so a thorough background check can be performed. But there are many out there that have no history that are nuts.

You are missing other very important points. Mass murder can be done very easily without guns or hand weapons and probably kill more people and do it more easily. Look how many were killed on 911 by a bunch of nut case terrorists using box cutters....no guns....they also used airplanes that were legally registered. Look back to Paris and even here in the USA at how many were killed using trucks...no guns. And you want to speak of killing lots of people look at Chicago where they have extremely strict gun laws and concealed carry is illegal unless you are a LEO or have some other very good reason. Hundreds of people are killed with illegal guns wielded people with extensive crime records. Guns can be made easily if need be, but even if we take away all the guns, like I stated there are other methods of killing that are easy and can kill a lot more people than what we are seeing done with guns. Try some creative thinking. You can make a nasty bomb with Chlorox, aluminum, nitric acid and lots of other things you can buy in a hardware store. My wife makes homemade soap and in part of the process she is only one step away from having nitro glycerin.

I mean, it's kind of one of those things like a fire extinguisher where it's very rare to use, but when you actually do need it, it's extremely worth it, right? Like I've never used my fire extinguisher at my house, but I wouldn't say that's just peace of mind. 💅

That said, my father's weapons skills has come in handy before, when we found a handgun lying around in the woods while running. He was able to safely unload it and bring it back to the police station. The damn thing didn't have a safety, so if he did not know how to handle guns, he would have either had to run with the damn thing loaded in his pocket or poke around incompetently with a firearm and neither of those alternatives are good.
@BlueVeins see that’s what I’m saying he found it in the woods like wth 🤦‍♀️ It was probably stolen and did no one any good
BlueVeins · 22-25
@SweetNSassy Nah, we're pretty sure it fell out of the pocket of some irresponsible but ultimately well-intentioned biker.
@BlueVeins that’s what I’m saying people are so irresponsible with their guns and literally cause more problems by basically giving criminals guns to use for harm

Both. I was once on a hunting trip with a fried and were leaving a motel early in the morning when two large indians approached the car on my friends side. They wanted a ride for a job, I asked which way they were going and I told them we were going the opposite way and at that moment I noticed one had a large long knife in his hand. They were getting closer to my friend so I laid my gun on top the car and repeated we were not going their way and that they should leave quickly. They did. My friend did not notice the knife but thanked me for doing so. My wife and I also had to show a gun when we were traveling when we had two rough looking guys approach the car asking for money and when we refused on grabbed the door handle on my wife's side and said they were going to cut us if we didn't give them money. Showing and pointing a gun at them changed their minds.
We have also had someone try to break into our house as we slept, but couldn't get in but I had a gun in my hand as I got out of bed and approached the door but they left before I got there.
So yes, a gun has helped in two instances, may have protected us in another. And yes, it does provide peace of mind. Today in some areas it is a necessary piece of protection.

@SweetNSassy "Both. I was once on a hunting trip with a fried and were leaving a motel early in the morning when two large indians approached the car on my friends side." "They were getting closer to my friend so I laid my gun on top the car" ...........I would have thought this was relatively easy to figure out.
@acpguy and I am just saying if I see big guys coming towards me, I would just back the car out and leave but to each their own.

Damn policeman wanted my ID to write me a invitation to the court, I unbuttoned my coat and when he saw my 9mm he took off running.... No ticket but I did get to meet his co workers
@MarineBob 🤭🤭 you are lucky he didn’t shoot you!
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@SweetNSassy he probably wants to now that everyone knows he's incompetent
@MarineBob 🤭🤭

It is not all about protection, and I see it no different than housing choices or car purchases. I mean why buy a big home when you can live in an apartment the rest of your life, or why buy a Corvette when a Hyundai gets you from point A to point B! I have guns because I like to hunt and recreate shooting them LEGALLY. It is my Constitutional right that I served in the US Army 27 years to have suffering 11 major surgeries and PTSD for! And if by heaven forbid it; that I need it for home/self defense then I have it. These are my reasons; just like I decided to wear what you wear instead of the the standard men's wear, it is about person choice and legal ownership to me.
It has actually protected me or my property, twice. But even if it hadn't, i own guns because I like them, enjoy shooting and it's my right to have them if I choose.

I haven’t yet had to use mine for defense/protection
acpguy · C
@SweetNSassy No, as a smart person you keep the gun on you and all of them secure. Only a dumb ass has a gun stolen unless someone has a gun on you before you can get at your's.
@acpguy I wouldn’t say all that, it’s just I happen to know more people that are a victim, from like having their gun stolen from their work trucks, rather then preventing a crime. When I asked this question I was just genuinely curious if anyone had ever used their gun for self protection.
acpguy · C
@SweetNSassy If you use your reading skills you would notice I stated "Only a dumb ass has a gun stolen" a person needs to keep the gun on their person or locked up securely so it does not get stolen. It is black and white, stupid people should not have guns.............period. It is simple and not rocket science just like letting your car run with keys in it unattended........stupid and many cars are stolen this way.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I have been protected by people with guns more than once. I was glad they were carrying.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@monte3 Once I was carrying a large amount of cash as the treasurer.
monte3 · 70-79, M
And someone approached you!? You were threatened?
Scary! @SweetMae
@SweetMae you were threatened or someone just went with you that carried to make sure no one approached you?
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
I’ve never owned one nor do I ever wish to have one 🙂

If people that are nuts or hell bent on killing others they do not need guns all they need is a pressure cooker, turf builder and diesel fuel, damage a natural gas pipe, derail a train, drive a large truck, poison a water supply..............doing these things and / or others would kill far more people in a very short time than any gun. Any one that thinks that removing guns is going to reduce murder and mayhem have their heads buried deeply up their ass. There are much better ways of killing large numbers of people but stupid does not wee that.
@SweetNSassy Hello ? Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City used a pallet of fertilizer/diesel fuel explosive. Killed 168, injured 680, including kids in the daycare, at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Bldg.

The Boston Marathon was bombed using pressure cooker devices in 2013.

The Atlanta Olympics was bombed in 1996.
@Stillwaiting okay, 1st of all, I don’t think that “Hello” was necessary to prove your point! 💅🙄 and 2ndly I don’t remember that stuff 🤣😩
acpguy · C
@SweetNSassy If you do not know history you are going to fail at life. Liberal education today is to blame for people under 40 to become snowflakes unless they take the initiative to study history and read a lot. Video games do not teach much other than to be a robot and fake news is even worse as they are making brainwashed idiots.
They are in my house and never used besides for targets etc. Though my Grandpa said he also never used it as a police officer.
@behindtheblue14 I know I have one in my house too but I’m starting to change my view on it, but it might also be because I never use it 🤷‍♀️
@SweetNSassy No view change for my family. It's one of those "rather have it and not need it instead of needing it and not having it"
@behindtheblue14 I understand that but I’m starting to think people that leave them in their trucks and stuff seem to get them stolen more then they actually use them for self defense. Idk
Thank God I have *not* had to use any, but, if it came to someone threatening me, etc., in my home or on my property, then I believe I have the ability to defend myself/guests/pets...
Not yet .. but can't if not there. Plus, I hunt, shoot trap/sporting clays and target shoot.
@Stillwaiting yeah I don’t know the answers but I’m just saying in this day and age it seems that right is kinda out dated
@SweetNSassy I, and a lot of others, disagree.

If you really gave a damn about other people dying .. you'd be after ending legal sale of tobacco products.

https://www.tobaccofreekids.org/problem/toll-us

Tobacco kills nearly 25 times as many people per year than guns, which include suicides in the gun stats.

Or maybe ending abortion .. which takes over 43 times as many lives each and every year.

https://abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics

Do you think all of the people with illegal guns, estimated to be 10's of millions, are going to line up to turn them if you confiscate legal ones? The answer is no .. and the rest of us would be left defenseless. No thanks.
@Stillwaiting okay geez, this was just a question. I’m not tryin to change your mind , I just wanted to know if anyone had ever actually used their gun for their own protection
Yulianna · 26-30, F
we have used our family weapons for practice only, though there was a time when Papa thought they were essential.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
Stopped a potential home invasion once and a robbery at a convenient store.
@JesseInTX was it along time ago or recently?
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
The home invasion was in ‘07 tha robbery was in ‘12 @SweetNSassy
Byron8by7 · M
I remember this line from a book: "A piece in the closet is a great comfort."
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Byron8by7 Saved a young girl from possibly being raped & kidnapped in Oklahoma. She was sick & home alone & called her mother telling her it sounded like someone was breaking in. Her mother told her to get her gun out of her bed stand and go into the bedroom closet and shut the door and not do anything unless the burglar opened the door. He walked around inside the house and opened the door and she shot him (she was still on the phone with her mother). Her mother call 9-1-1 and then told the girl to call them. The burglar didn’t die but walked out the home and was gone by the time the police got there but followed a blood trail. This guy had a previous incident with a mentally handicapped girl so it’s very likely he intended to rape this young girl. He told the police he was hungry and looking for food. But who the hell goes straight to the bedrooms instead of going to the kitchen and looking for food?
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
I forget we have them in the house 🤷🏻‍♀️
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Pinkstarburst they need to be cleaned on a regular basis, if you haven’t done that might be a good time to do it.
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
@cherokeepatti Hubs is the gun guy
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Yes it has. When you have a family member who is a psychopath and capable of murder and your home has been broken into repeatedly while the entire family was away & nothing but personal items were taken, you might want to have some personal protection and keep it handy.
@MasterLee yes to what?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SweetNSassy it has protected

When I husband lived in Texas, he had it for work. His mum had one for protection but had never used it.
@SW-User yeah no one I know has ever stopped or used one for protection either
Peace of mind and would serve as protection the minute stranger danger crosses the threshold
No. Neither has it for anyone else.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
No it hasn't
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
TBH, I used it only 2 times. Once when my favourite team won world cup. And once when I was feeling too jellied.
So yes, never in self defence.
@YMITheWayIM me either and no one I know has ever used one in self defense either
Ingwe · F
never
and it's not peace of mind ..it bothers the mind
I'll soon be turning the rest of the weapons in
@Ingwe I’m starting to agree with you
yeronlyman · 51-55, M
Here you can’t regularly own guns unless for hunting... we have very little gun crime generally
@yeronlyman where are you from?
It's the perfect way to make up for a micropenis
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@PervertedPrincessOfDeath so you have a .50 cal?
@MasterLee no I'm a pacifist with an 18 inch meat hammer

I’m not sure how effective a spud gun really is
@meJess 🤭🤭 but it sounds fun!!
