I’m just curious, has owning a gun ever actually protected you or is more of just a peace of mind

Just like knowing you have a gun in your house if you need it, it’s there?

I remember this line from a book: "A piece in the closet is a great comfort."

@Byron8by7 Saved a young girl from possibly being raped & kidnapped in Oklahoma. She was sick & home alone & called her mother telling her it sounded like someone was breaking in. Her mother told her to get her gun out of her bed stand and go into the bedroom closet and shut the door and not do anything unless the burglar opened the door. He walked around inside the house and opened the door and she shot him (she was still on the phone with her mother). Her mother call 9-1-1 and then told the girl to call them. The burglar didn’t die but walked out the home and was gone by the time the police got there but followed a blood trail. This guy had a previous incident with a mentally handicapped girl so it’s very likely he intended to rape this young girl. He told the police he was hungry and looking for food. But who the hell goes straight to the bedrooms instead of going to the kitchen and looking for food?
